To think this woman made my day

Trying on a dress in zara and came out to look in the mirror. This woman who was also trying stuff on said "Oh my god that dress looks INCREDIBLE on you. Can i just tie the back ties so its done up properly? .... There. Truly it looks fantastic."
This isnt a humble brag btw.

What a wonderful thing to do for someone - just to compliment them and show some kindness.

From now on whenever I think something nice about someone I plan on telling them, even strangers.

Aw that’s lovely. My late mum (who was fab) used to do this. She’d tell women walking down the street how nice they looked, if she thought they looked nice. I used to find it really embarrassing when I was a teenager actually, but I think most people really liked it. They always seemed pleased.

I love this when you get a busy changing room and women help each other/give advice/compliment. It's so refreshing.

Really lovely! Very heartwarming. Hope you bought it! I do try and do this too. I once phoned a company to praise someone and they said "Thank you SO much. People only normally phone when they want to complain".

I’ve done it to people and people have done it to me! It’s lovely as you know it’s true! Other wise why would they bother opening their mouths

My mom used to do this and I have followed her tradition - my friends tell me it's one of my nicest traits but I think if someone looks nice why not tell them Grin

It's great to hear of people being nice to each other. I compliment my sister, my MIL and my neighbor when I notice they've had hair done/new clothes etc and I always get the same response: oh nooooooo, not me, I'm a mess! Haven't washed my hair/dyed my roots Hmm calm down mun, it's a compliment not an interview under caution! Grin

Occasionally we have been served or waited on by young girls or men who have their hair dyed shocking pink or green. I am in my 60,s so really it's it a style I wouldn't have but I always make a point of telling them their hair looks fantastic. I think it's such a brave statement to change hair colour.

I think that's lovely. The times that strangers have stopped me to say nice things, it's really made my day - I need to try harder to pass it forward.

Las year was in M&S with daughter then aged ten When she told a beautiful stylish lady of around mid sixties “you look so pretty”.
Woman was so happy,I bumped into her whilst shopping alone few weeks later and she said DD’s comment made her week!

I bought a (really) cheap ring last week, put it on whilst walking around the shop and shop assistants in 2 different shops commented on it, made me feel really good... passing it forward is a lovely idea!

I do this loads, I’ve always had a very positive response but I’m glad people actually DO appreciate it and aren’t thanking me brought gritted teeth

Wouldn't it be lovely to spread that sort of thing.

I often compliment people on their hair colour but my favourite thing is to compliment parents.

When I am pushing my mum in the wheelchair some people can be really thoughtless but often children and teens can be very aware and helpful.

A couple of weeks ago we were shopping and two women were talking and in our way. The daughter, who was about 10, noticed us and touched her mum's arm and pointed out that she was blocking the aisle. A few minutes later she saw us coming again and moved something out of our way. I had to tell the mum how lovely and thoughtful she was. You could just see the mum glow with pride and as we were walking away we could hear her telling her daughter how pleased she was with her. So easy to make someone's day.

I always compliment people when I think something nice about them - people really seem to like it and if they do think I'm weird then no biggie...it makes me happier to make others happy too (trite as fuck, I know, but also true).

I ALWAYS do this! I like to make other people happy and I think small things like this can really make a difference to someones day. Kindness costs nothing.

I remember an awful day when I'd been bollocked at work and then had a tooth extracted - I was walking back to the office with my face numb feeling like utter crap when a chap walking towards me beamed at me and said 'You make a lovely day more beautiful!' It was such a nice moment in an otherwise crappy day.

Also had an old lady tell me I looked great as I passed her in the street - again, it lifted my spirits more than she could have known.

That's lovely. I think I recognise your name which is unusal for me and I'm pretty sure it's because you're the kind poster who tried to make a poster feel bad for being proud of getting a first on her degree even though she did it with three kids and I think even started a thread to slag off Caitlin Moran. See being nice to other women feels good doesn't it? And having a little stealth brag feels good too!

I'm a Receptionist and I always think it's part of the job (medical field) to find something to compliment someone on. Not always the women either - men can have lovely shoes, tie, eyes....Grin It's not false, but a way to brighten everyone's day, mine included.

Yesterday, en route from school drop off, 3 year old DD and I saw a woman stopping at house with birthday banners hanging on the door. The woman had a 50s style polka dot dress with a big poodle skirt and the most fabulous red and black heels.
DD saw her and exclaimed loudly within earshot, oh Mummy that lady looks lovely! I felt so proud of her openness and positivity! Why do we feel we can't express this so easily as adults?

It's a lovely thing to hear, and an even lovelier thing to do when you see the look on someone's face after they receive an unexpected compliment. I don't do it as often as I should tbh, but I shall redouble my efforts from now on!

Especiallly because it's just reminded me of the time a woman swooshed past on her bike and called out 'I LOVE your skirt!' over her shoulder. What made it extra special was that ExP was with me, and he HATED the skirt Grin
