To believe that kids sat inside supermarket trolleys is disgusting

Just that really.
Never allowed my DC to do it.

I think it is gross that some guardians allow children to sit amongst the groceries in the supermarket trolley.
Makes me shudder that they could have dog shit or other unmentionables on their outside footwear. This would contaminate their shopping and the next unsuspecting persons. I also think it's dangerous having a kid hanging off the edge of a trolley. Pisses me off to see this. Am I alone?

You’re bonkers

MrsDylanBlue · 10/06/2018 23:09

Yes. You are alone.

AnneLovesGilbert · 10/06/2018 23:10

Shock you what?

RedPandaMama · 10/06/2018 23:10

Bit OTT. Not your shopping and you'd have to be a pretty irresponsible parent to let your kid have dog poo on their shoes Hmm I'd chill out and not spend your Sunday night stressing about it.

notacooldad · 10/06/2018 23:10

Alone so far.

Wolfiefan · 10/06/2018 23:10

I never put my DC in a trolley. I was scared they would fall out.
Your "contamination" concerns are frankly batshit.

WelcomeToGilead · 10/06/2018 23:10

Nah I agree!!

But I do let them in b&q because there’s no food involved and they’re definitely better off in that out!!

GoldenMcOldie · 10/06/2018 23:11

Unmentionables. Hahahaha!!!

Tipee22 · 10/06/2018 23:11

Never bothered me tbh. I think if parents need to find a way to keep kids happy while they shop then it’s fine!

Chuckle65 · 10/06/2018 23:11

I must say I agree with you OP.
I wouldn't allow my DC to do it although if I happened to pass another parent allowing their children to do it, I wouldn't really pay much attention to it at all

Thehop · 10/06/2018 23:11

Here’s one for you

Don’t worry about dog shit

What about Dave scratching his balls and getting pubes on The boxes before he stacks them.

Lollipop30 · 10/06/2018 23:11

Yep you’re alone. It’s a godsend for me having one in the trolley (until it gets too full) so I won’t be stopping any time soon!

BigusBumus · 10/06/2018 23:11

Yeah you're alone.

Do you wash your hands 20 times an hour?

ShweShwe · 10/06/2018 23:11

One good way to keep safe would be to NOT use a supermarket trolley as a dinner plate.

Oh and YABVU and bonkers.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 10/06/2018 23:12

I put them both in... 5 & 7. You would hate me Grin

I couldn't do shopping if it wasn't for the trolley. Hmm well I could do it online or when they are in bed but I like the shops in the day 😀

malfoyy · 10/06/2018 23:12

My mum is always banging in about this being disgusting for the reasons you state.

I just think it's uncouth!

4GreenApples · 10/06/2018 23:12

I don’t like seeing this, but that’s mostly because I worry about the kids falling out of the trolleys and getting hurt. They’re not really designed to carry children safely.

As for hygiene - most groceries are so packaged in plastic, cardboard or both, that the food inside won’t come into contact with the actual trolley.

Chuckle65 · 10/06/2018 23:12

I'd rather they were confined to a trolley rather than running around the store or lying on the floor (which I've seen SO many times) while their parents just leave them to do their own thing

BastardGoDarkly · 10/06/2018 23:12

I work in a supermarket, and have seen a couple of nasty finger bangs, scraping. So no, I don't like it either op.

Strictly speaking I don't think it's allowed.

KioraAdora · 10/06/2018 23:12

There are probably more germs on the trolley handle or on the checkout payment keypad

I make DC take shoes off if they sit in the trolley. Leave shoes in the car.

Sidelook · 10/06/2018 23:13

You may be alone on this!!

purplewurple · 10/06/2018 23:13

Tbh I don't care that you think this. My dc is 3 and has recently took a liking to siting inside the trolley with legs crossed. Which I am all for because previous to that I spent most my time chasing the child round the shop or taking things off them as they didn't like to sit on the normal trolley seat.

So I'll continue to do it aslong as they enjoy it as it's easier al round for everyone. Presumably your shopping which has packaging has been sitting In warehouses collecting dust or dragged in and out of vans etc. Handled by many people to put the stock out or touch it. They could have poo on their hands or particles.

Elphabaisnotwicked · 10/06/2018 23:13

Yadnbu, it’s utterly vile! People should be able to keep their children behaved in the supermarket without putting them in trolleys Angry
