To believe that kids sat inside supermarket trolleys is disgusting

Just that really.
Never allowed my DC to do it.

I think it is gross that some guardians allow children to sit amongst the groceries in the supermarket trolley.
Makes me shudder that they could have dog shit or other unmentionables on their outside footwear. This would contaminate their shopping and the next unsuspecting persons. I also think it's dangerous having a kid hanging off the edge of a trolley. Pisses me off to see this. Am I alone?

I work in a supermarket, the trollies are gross and kids shoes won't make much of a difference if any at all. That said, I don't like seeing it because of the amount of kids I've seen get injured doing it. They can fall out or tip the trollies easily, fingers can be caught between the trolley and things its passing or get caught in the bars. Its dangerous, but noone believes you till it's their child so I would just ignore it OP.

thanks to this thread i am now putting hand gel across the bar when i shop - cant do much about the rest of it though.

glad i dont have little children to lug around these places anymore. i remember it being hell at times when they get bored and were too big for the sitting bit of the trolley.

toomuchtooold · 13/06/2018 16:21

I know where they are and they aren't putting random stuff in my weekly shop

I remember the first time I tried going in the supermarket with my kids walking "alongside" me - they were 2 (optimistic, I know) and I could only get DD2 out of the baking aisle by buying her a packet of cake mix that she'd set her heart on. DD1 tried really hard to get her sister to hold her hand and walk with her, god love her, but after about 5 minutes she let go a full throated roar of toddler joy and belted off down the supermarket aisles after her. I left it about a year before I tried again Grin

Ive always felt that this isnt a good idea.Firstly its not designed for this and secondly as this isnt what the trolleys are meant for what message are you giving children.shopping isnt the easiest with children but with a little thought you can involve them and they can learn so much whilst doing so.Ive done it with eight children and it was no problem.I think children need to know how to behave this also includes not standing on tables at restaurants( yes ive seen parents allowing this ,not eating food at the supermarket until its paid for (another thing some people feel is acceptable in keeping their children happy. Children need to learn bounderies not that as a parent you will do what keeps them quiet

@busyhonestchildcarer
Yes yes and YES!!

Mollymissy · 14/06/2018 17:49

I agree with you , just no need to have them sitting inside the trolley, I have 3 kids none of mine ever did, wouldn't of let them if they would of even asked

Dh took ds to the supermarket the other night. He walked into a trolley handle sticking out into the exit path at his eye level ( it was one of those trolleys for wheelchairs I think). He was not even running. He split the skin around his eye and spent the evening in a&e as they were
Concerned he has damaged his eyeball.
So being in a trolley on this occasion would have been safer. Everything has risks with a child involved. So the trolley being unsafe argument just doesn’t hold.

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 15/06/2018 09:20

Allegorical yy. Mine were whacked by other trollies a few times when they felt like walking. Nothing ever happened while they were inside one. Hope your DS is ok.

Klrichardson1 · 31/05/2019 23:04

I agree it is disgusting. Cannot believe the attitude of some parents on here!

SimulationTheorist · 31/05/2019 23:11

🧟‍♂️

SachaStark · 31/05/2019 23:12

I think it’s actually really important to teach children that not everywhere is a playground. A trolley is not a ride, so you don’t sit in it. An aisle is not a race course, so you don’t run down it. Etc.

Believe me, when they get to school, we know the ones that have been taught clear boundaries from a young age! Even at secondary, you get kids coming in and picking up every time from every other class and trying to muck around with it. Clearly not taught that not everything in life is a toy for them to play with.

SachaStark · 31/05/2019 23:12

Oh, for heavens sake, now I’ve responded to a zombie thread. Why did someone wake it up?!

Trebla · 31/05/2019 23:56

Mine sit in the trolley. I have so many, it wouldn't work otherwise. To be fair they rarely wear shoes so any shit is directly on their feet anyway.....

(Disclaimer: We don't live in the UK and it's very typical for children not to wear shoes here).

Go on then share your tips as well as judgement.

and this old chestnut has been revived because???

magneticmumbles · 01/06/2019 00:05

I'd be more worried about what's on the handlebar. Imagine all the people who have touched it without washing their hands. All that fecal matter, which then transfers to all the fresh fruit and veg you pick up.

pinkboa · 01/06/2019 00:11

Maybe encourage more people to clean up their dog shit 🤣...

The fucking scooter went in a pile today... DH is cleaning that shit tomorrow!

BrokenWing · 01/06/2019 00:30

Pinkvoid · 01/06/2019 00:54

You do realise the trollies are stored outside so exposed to all weathers and potentially rodents/bird shit?

You’re absolutely bonkers worrying about kids ‘shoe germs’. All trollies are full of germs. Wash your damn food.

PregnantSea · 01/06/2019 01:12

What a boring topic to reanimate... I can sort of understand when it's about racism or adultery, but shopping trolleys..? Who was scrolling back through old threads and just had to throw their two cents in on this? lol!!
