To believe that kids sat inside supermarket trolleys is disgusting

Just that really.
Never allowed my DC to do it.

I think it is gross that some guardians allow children to sit amongst the groceries in the supermarket trolley.
Makes me shudder that they could have dog shit or other unmentionables on their outside footwear. This would contaminate their shopping and the next unsuspecting persons. I also think it's dangerous having a kid hanging off the edge of a trolley. Pisses me off to see this. Am I alone?

Your absolutely silly and this thread is pointless

Jamiefraserskilt · 13/06/2018 00:03

Mine used to fall asleep on the cornflakes.
I would love to fall asleep on the cornflakes but doubt if I could get a leg in let alone the rest of me. Would beat dragging round the same old shelves every week.

Everywhereilookaround · 13/06/2018 00:26

Oh my word, willy germs on handle bars and bum scratch pizzas, and shrink wrapped kids. I haven't laughed so much in ages! 😂😂😂

Seriously they should immediately close all shops until a full health and safety investigation can take place regarding the minute possibility a dog pooed and a child stepped in it, later then transferred those germs onto a trolley and ultimately contaminating the groceries.

I saw a kid fall down the stairs once, ban stairs!!! Once a friend's child got a grape stuck in her throat, ban grapes!! Once a child walked smack bang into a window pane. Ban windows! Children can actually drown in water. Ban water!!!

I have to use shopping baskets and trolleys that vile people plop their raw flesh into, contaminating my vegetables. Ban all meat eaters.

In fact let's ban everyone? They there will be no germs at all!

Sometimes reading mumsnet is like watching horrible histories (with the kids ) you know , the Puritan times . No dancing , no music, no kids in supermarket trollies ... that kind of thing

Shadow666 · 13/06/2018 08:17

These threads are so weird.

MN: There are no signs to say you can’t do this.

Reply: Actually, there are.

MN: But, supermarkets don’t mind people doing this.

Reply: I work in a supermarket and we don’t allow this.

MN: I’ve never heard anyone complaining about this.

Reply: There have been loads of threads by people complaining about this.

MN: But, I’ve never seen anyone injured doing this.

Reply from many people: I’ve seen it and it’s really horrific.

MN: Get a life, OP.

Reply: 🤷‍♀️

The reason I have let all four of my kids do this?? Its bloody good fun! I spin 'em around and run up and down the emptier aisles, in 20 years of parenting they have never been hurt. Plus, my shopping goes straight into my bags not into the doggyplop covered (apparent) trollies lol. I scan n bag as I go.
But seriously, if I worried about this, I don't think I would go out. Plus I always sniff me beans to check 'em before they go in the cupboard! That Dave's pubes get everywhere! lol

Yes because supermarkets are specifically designed for kids entertainment purposes.... Hmm

Leapfrog44 · 13/06/2018 09:54

People stress too much about hygiene. I don't wear shoes inside for this reason but I don't go around worrying about supermarket trolleys and whether they've come in contact with shoes. Frankly if you're going to worry about hygiene you should wear gloves when you push one because there are FAR more 'unmentionables' on people's hands

singledadstu · 13/06/2018 09:55

As it happens no they aren’t (shopping trollies that is) I think you’ve missed the point. Life’s good if you try and enjoy it wether that’s spinning your kids in a supermarket trolly or singinging while you clean. Who cares that much about stuff like this ?

Strugglingtodomybest · 13/06/2018 10:42

Also, where is this dog poo coming from? My 13 year old trod in it for the first time ever last week and I cleaned it off for him as soon as we got home, as it stinks.

When we go supermarket shopping we normally go straight from home. So we put on our non-dog-poo-coated shoes, get in the car, drive to the supermarket, get out of the car and walk the short distance to the entrance of the supermarket. I have never seen dog poo in the car park and even if there was, what are the chances of a small child, who is presumably holding your hand, stepping in it?

WaxOnFeckOff · 13/06/2018 10:43

No, not missing the point at all. Life is very much for the living and having fun with your kids is the best. I'm also not averse to controlled risk as you can't keep them wrapped in cotton wool. However, I don't think putting them in a shopping trolley is wise, especially doing it just for the kicks. It's not advised or permitted for safety reasons. We used to do all sorts of things in the past that we wouldn't do now such as drive about with no seatbelts after a couple of pints in the pub, have playgrounds with lovely hard-wearing concrete surfaces etc.

CthulhusMum · 13/06/2018 10:57

my ds is 6 and a wheelchair user. I put him in the trolley because I can not push a wheelchair and a trolley at the same time, he exceeds the weight limit for the seat, what would you prefer I do? Stop being so judgmental.

WaxOnFeckOff · 13/06/2018 11:24

That's not great at all CthulhusMum our Sainsburys has two options. One is that they have trollies that attach to the wheelchair and the other is a trolly with a large low seat at the front where the baby and toddler seats usually are. This seat is full width, padded and has safety straps but no bars. You could fit an adult in it if required. Supermarkets do need to offer a range of options.

toomuchtooold · 13/06/2018 11:24

My local supermarkets have a vast array of seat combinations, singles, twins, baby seats combined with toddler seats etc and a couple of trollies adapted for special needs children

Yeah, chances of the correct trolley being in the trolley park closest to your car are pretty slim IIRC. With twins, it becomes like that logic puzzle with the chicken and the fox and the grain. I don't want to leave the two kids in the car alone if I have to go more than about 150m, but I can;t carry both of them, so I'll take the buggy, but then I can't push the buggy back to the car while also pushing the trolley etc. Also the twin toddler ones are incredibly small so my kids would spend the entire time elbowing each other and yelling in frustration.

That Tesco delivery subscription thing was a godsend Grin

Macareaux · 13/06/2018 11:27

YABU. We need a peck of dirt and I'd rather have other people's tiny kids in trolleys rather than under my feet.

You don't want to see what goes on in the growing, storing and packing your food.

MrsPreston11 · 13/06/2018 11:27

I'm one of the ones with a child in the trolley! And I realy couldn't give a shit if people don't like it.

My youngest is sloooooow in a supermarket.

She thinks it's a huge treat sitting in the trolley - really it's a treat for me! Browsing time!

IAmMumWho · 13/06/2018 11:32

Not many supermarkets provide double seated trolleys so therefore with my twins one sits in seat and the other in the basket part. It's easier to get around and do the shop. What would you rather, the kids run riot in a store? I think not!

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 13/06/2018 11:37

" Not many supermarkets provide double seated trolleys "

funny that, I never had a problem finding one when my twins were small..

IAmMumWho · 13/06/2018 11:40

@FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast

There's only Asda that provide double trolleys and they only have 5 total. When we've shopped at Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury's etc they only have single seated ones. My twins are only 4 so I'm happy if one sits in the basket part and one in the seat.

frasier · 13/06/2018 11:43

Oxford St Waitrose (basement of John Lewis flagship) has no trolleys with seats 🙄. I asked a manager in case they were elsewhere or only had a couple and were in use, I would have waited, and he said to put DS in the trolley “that’s what everyone else does”!

Please could you have a couple of trolleys with seats though Waitrose? You could get someone to nip up to Marylebone High Street!

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 13/06/2018 11:46

to be honest IAmMum, when you have twins, you just do what you have to do! Grin

IAmMumWho · 13/06/2018 11:49

@FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast

You have too. I get odd looks of people but I don't care. Keeps them safe, I know where they are and they aren't putting random stuff in my weekly shop Smile

carrotcake121 · 13/06/2018 12:08

I really don't know where OP finds the time to moan to complete strangers about shopping trolleys. Has it got anything to do with her, about other peoples children

bicback · 13/06/2018 12:30

I agree op it's rank. Of course there will be plenty who come along and say it's fine and that rats hang out on the trolleys as do pigeons Grin.

Lethaldrizzle · 13/06/2018 12:55

Rank and disgusting are words I'd never associate with the practice, possibly a bit dangerous - yes, but then aren't most things?
