To believe that kids sat inside supermarket trolleys is disgusting

Just that really.
Never allowed my DC to do it.

I think it is gross that some guardians allow children to sit amongst the groceries in the supermarket trolley.
Makes me shudder that they could have dog shit or other unmentionables on their outside footwear. This would contaminate their shopping and the next unsuspecting persons. I also think it's dangerous having a kid hanging off the edge of a trolley. Pisses me off to see this. Am I alone?

Stick 'em in the trolley, it stops them running about.

ChristinaMarlowe · 10/06/2018 23:14

What about the car? Should we not allow them in there either, the dirty little sods?!
There's a difference between sitting in a seat designed for sitting in and 'hanging off the side of a trolley' btw

Bananalanacake · 10/06/2018 23:14

Sometimes it is necessary like when they climb out of the seat at the front

PorkFlute · 10/06/2018 23:14

Considering that trolleys are left uncovered outside for birds to shit on only rinsed off with rainwater Yabu to expect them to be hygienic.

MumofBoysx2 · 10/06/2018 23:14

YABU (yawn)

SodTheGreenfly · 10/06/2018 23:14

Not a problem, my shopping goes straight into my trolley bags for a quick check out x

37KAT · 10/06/2018 23:15

Needless to say not talking about the seats designed for DCS to sit it.
Referring to the actual main area shopping goes.

You're bonkers. They live outside, in the open. Rats, birds, mice all shit on them. All the time. They wee on them too. People touch the handles after scratching their arses or picking their nose, or sneezing into their hands. Just clean up at home.

Slimtimeagain · 10/06/2018 23:16

Sometimes I have no choice when out with 2 babies / toddlers where one doesn't walk and the other very recently.. a lot of places sadly don't cater for 2 babies. What do you expect me to do?

ShowOfHands · 10/06/2018 23:17

The number of rats and foxes which scrabble about over trollies, wee on them etc and you're worried about Little Johnny's shoes? The handles of trollies are probably riddled with urine and bacteria too. I see people in the toilets in supermarkets. They march out without washing their hands and go straight back to their trollies...

Bowiesequins · 10/06/2018 23:17

Any supermarket I have been in over the course of 40+ years has provided food in packaging - do you use a different kind of supermarket?

Sidelook · 10/06/2018 23:17

I’d be more concerned about the germs on the trolly handle!

Tutlefru · 10/06/2018 23:18

Well I do this. Going shopping with two under 4s is a nightmare. I make sure they stay say down and don't stand up.

Couldn't give a shiny shit what people think.

How often do you think trolleys get washed OP? Probably been shat on by birds anyway.

Returnofthesmileybar · 10/06/2018 23:19

You know trolleys are kept outside right? There is probably more risk of bird, fox, cat, dog, rodent piss and shit on them than comes from the end of a kids shoe ffs.

Although Lidl trolleys now have the cool fold out compartment on the front of their trolleys that kids can stand on, they are great! (Not sure if this is their intended use mind)

BlondeB83 · 10/06/2018 23:19

I was shopping yesterday and saw a child who was at least 9 or 10 say in the trolley. That was weird.

Battleax · 10/06/2018 23:19

It looks awful but because it’s unsafe, not because trolleys are clean and mustn’t be sullied. The seats are provided, it’s not difficult to use them.

BlondeB83 · 10/06/2018 23:20

sat

Iceweasel · 10/06/2018 23:20

I wash or peel any fruit or veg. Everything else is in packaging. Do you disinfect the trolley handle before use? You don't know where other people's hands have been so you would then be contaminating your own shopping.

Fluffyears · 10/06/2018 23:21

Have you seen the lorries your food comes to the store in. Blogging and there is a guy in workboots climbing in next to your groceries, they are then pulled into an open warehouse with pigeons and usually vermin wandering around. I worked in a supermarket throughout uni and believe me a child’s shoes are probably one of the cleaner items. I have however seen a child take a header out of a trolley on 2 separate occasions and it is serious as they tend to land head first onto concrete.

The real excitement is getting a weird creature in with the bananas sometimes , we had a wee lizard and also a nice tropical spider thing.

KioraAdora · 10/06/2018 23:21

I do it because I would rather keep a tired DC contained, rather than dawdling/crying/moaning.

Battleax · 10/06/2018 23:22

Can anyone who does this explain what’s wrong with using the seats?

Happymummy1991 · 10/06/2018 23:23

Ugh I hate this too, it just looks dangerous.

37KAT · 10/06/2018 23:24

Maybe it's just me obsessing about hygiene, however, could it be dangerous? A friends DS managed to tip a trolley over whist amongst the weekly shop and really injured himself resulting in an ambulance trip to A&E

OP posts:
BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 10/06/2018 23:25

These are the same trolleys that spend half the time outdoors in the car park where birds can shit on them?

Monty27 · 10/06/2018 23:25

You think trollies are clean, really? They live outside with the wild life.
You have problems op.
Oh and by the way do you know most warehouses have vermin. Urine on everything and droppings etc.
