Very old friend of mine, who can be a total PITA but I am basically fond of her, has come to stay for a few days. She just asked me if she could have a bucket in her room to use if she needs a wee in the night!

We don't have a loo on that floor, she would have to come down one floor, as I do every bloody night. I said no! She has some health issues but is completely mobile. WIBU?

No!

Sirzy · 05/06/2018 22:11

Surely she can bring her own bucket if needed?

Ipdipme · 05/06/2018 22:12

Ugh! YANBU. Disgusting that she’d even ask Envy

ProudThrilledHappy · 05/06/2018 22:13

If she wants a bucket give her a bucket. Burn it when she leaves

I'm wondering what else she might do if you don't give her a bucket.

A friend of mine started cutting open empty water bottle and using them as a potty in the night because her landlady banned toilet use after dark.

I agree with above, just give her one from Poundland and bin

Ohyesiam · 05/06/2018 22:15

Live and let live, give her a bucket.

Give her the bleach in the morning to clean it.

Jesuisleloup · 05/06/2018 22:15

I’d laugh and do it . She obviously feels comfortable and at ease with you

PassiveAgressiveQueen · 05/06/2018 22:15

I can understand, i often need the loo quite urgently in the night. And hunting for light switches in a house I don't know could honestly make me wet myself.

And the stress of knowing i am in that situation would make it worse and 10x more likely.

I use a portaloo during the night as I'm unable to get about in the dark, due to after effects of a stroke and an operation on my knee.. I don't see the problem as long as she empties and washes it herself.

Bloodybridget · 05/06/2018 22:17

I just don't like the idea of someone peeing in a bucket in our spare room - it's not squeamishness about the bucket.

Katedotness1963 · 05/06/2018 22:18

Not in my house.

ProudThrilledHappy · 05/06/2018 22:19

Sometimes peeing makes a loud noise in a silent house. Maybe shes just very self conscious of being heard or disturbing you.

If she’d rather pee in a bucket I can’t see any harm as long as she cleans it thoroughly in the morning

TenuedeNimes · 05/06/2018 22:21

It’s going to make a lot more noise in a bucket, surely? Confused

Bloodybridget · 05/06/2018 22:22

I don't see how peeing in a bucket would be any quieter than using a loo. Honestly, I reckon she just doesn't want to have to come downstairs. She said "I always do this on holiday "!

Does she have an incontinence problem? I've wet myself of a morning before, before I could get to the loo!! Have felt fine when in bed, then as soon as I stand up.... Aaaargh - and it's only a few feet away!

Why not just ask her? If she's bold enough to ask for a bucket, ask if she has problems. If so - bucket!

cowfacemonkey · 05/06/2018 22:22

I can't imagine anyone prefering to pee in bucket if they don't have too. If there's a reason why she might need the loo urgently in the night then I'd let her get on with it.

ProudThrilledHappy · 05/06/2018 22:23

Op you will have to get her a really decorative bed pan for christmas Grin

AnathemaPulsifer · 05/06/2018 22:24

It's quite a big deal to ask for a bucket, maybe she has continence issues you don't know about.

Bloodybridget · 05/06/2018 22:24

OK maybe IABU. Thanks for all your comments. But I am not giving her a bucket anyway!

When you say “ old friend “ do you mean elderly ?

chocolateworshipper · 05/06/2018 22:25

Gross. Ask if she wants to sleep on the floor of the lounge instead.
