Yes, Daily Fail link... But I am currently happy to give them clicks for various reasons.

Anyway, Tom Jones has a son whom he has never seen and apparently wants nothing to do with...

"Sir Tom denied he was Jon's father until it was proved by a court-ordered paternity test in 1989, and the singer agreed to pay £1,700 a month maintenance for his upkeep until his 18th birthday."

"Sir Tom only acknowledged Jon's existence in 2008, saying: 'It wasn't something I planned. I was tricked. I fell for the seduction.'"

What a piece of shit he is!

RO'S isn't it?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/06/2018 15:37

Ah! I see, yes that makes more sense!

In that case... yes, he is the very spit of him!!

Rafflesway · 03/06/2018 16:03

TBH, I can't understand why this illegitimate son doesn't forget all about TJ, stop singing his bloody songs and move on. 🙄

I know I sound really harsh but I am in the same boat although much older. My mother had a fling with a young man from a very wealthy family - they were both 19 - and I was the result. Preens Grin

At least Jonathan, I believe, was very loved by his DM. I wasn't! My mother disliked me intensely and married someone else when I was 4 and left me to be raised by various disgruntled relatives.

Am I a drug addled, feeling sorry for myself wreck? Like hell! I got off my arse and made a life for myself which has turned out to be really successful. Gave my mother the pleasure of NC 30 years ago and have never been happier.

This guy needs to get off the drugs, go back to his mother, study, get a decent job and forget about TJ. TJ isn't his father - he was a bloody sperm donor whether by trickery or not. Irrespective of what he does TJ isn't going to give him the time of day. Harsh but true! Why waste your one life pining for an arsehole? It is far too precious.

gillybeanz · 03/06/2018 16:34

I think Sue Jameson is awful, not for having a child adopted but the double rejection, shame on her.
She doesn't deserve the title mother.
I feel so sorry for the poor daughter having to go through this, it takes some strength as I am witness.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/06/2018 16:35

Why? She doesn't ask for the title of being his mother. Maybe that's how she deals with it. She compartmenatalises it. Why does anyone else get to say she is wrong?

diddl · 03/06/2018 16:37

"She doesn't deserve the title mother."

She doesn't want it!

noeffingidea · 03/06/2018 16:43

gilly this happened in 1960 before legal abortion. Sue Jameson diddn't want to be pregnant or give birth but she was forced to. Why should she be expected to feel motherly years later when the 'child' turned up in her life? Thats the risk adopted children take when they trace their birth parents. Some of them don't want a relationship.

OutofTyme · 03/06/2018 16:44

It's hardly surprising imo. He's probably got loads of long lost children.

I shall repeat my thoughts in their entirety seeing as you can only read and hold onto one line.

I made the point up the thread that a woman holds all the cards - if she chooses to take no responsibility she can choose to have the child adopted, thus legally cutting her financial, legal, moral obligation to that child. A man has no such equality, he cannot say, as a woman can "take it away" he's lumbered, whether he likes it or not.

And as I said TJ paid his financial dues whilst the person was a child. He has absolutely no further obligation to the person whatsoever now that person is an adult.

OutofTyme · 03/06/2018 16:53

I worked at one of his concerts & he seemed quite leery / creepy. I have never understood the attraction either. To me he looks like Sad Sack from The Raggydolls !

mrsmuddlepies · 03/06/2018 16:57

I am not defending Tom Jones. He sounds awful. However, I think the point being made by a number of posters is that if a woman gets pregnant and does not want to have a baby, she can have an abortion or have the baby adopted. There is no such option for a man who does not want to have a baby. The law does not allow him to opt out of financial responsibility.
Sue Jameson, Clare Short and other women were able to turn their backs on all responsibility for their adopted babies. Most women today would instead choose a termination. There seems to be acceptance of a pregnant mother rightly having the choice to have a baby or not. There are double standards with regard to men who are reluctant to be fathers.

HollyGibney · 03/06/2018 17:00

The law does not allow him to opt out of financial responsibility.

And yet so MANY of them do.

'she can have an abortion or have the baby adopted. '

Oh yes, both of the above are such easy choices Hmm

gillybeanz · 03/06/2018 17:02

for those who sympathise with women who had babies adopted in the 60's and not wanting anything to do with them, just think how that person feels.
What an awful thing to say it's the risk of the adopted person.
I'm not saying they should have kept the child, or even have a mother child relationship, but to not want to know is disgusting, whatever the reason.
I know women who have had children adopted due to rape show more compassion than this.
At least they explained and it was understandable why they didn't want to know.

OutofTyme · 03/06/2018 17:03

NewYearNewMe - that is a load of absolute bollocks. 'The woman holds all the cards' oh really?! When she is the one who has to bear the consequences of having a child, giving the child away or having an abortion. All difficult things to go through. Meanwhile the man swans off never to be seen again

If a man decides to leave his semen inside a woman then at that point he has NO say about what comes next. And rightly so.

Slanetylor · 03/06/2018 17:09

Men have lots of options.
Don’t cheat on your wife.
Wear a condom.
Have a vasectomy.
A vasectomy might seem extreme but it seems preferable than having an abortion ( from my admittedly female perspective).
Or, if your a multimillionaire, you could send a few cards, visit a handful of times and throw some money at the situation. All of which might be emotionally easier than getting an abortion or adopting your baby.

OutofTyme · 03/06/2018 17:12

Quite Slane. The amount of women who seem to have been brainwashed by this sort of misogyny is sad.

IAgreeWithOP · 03/06/2018 17:16

Women do trick men into being father’s, I’ve actually seen it advised on here

Bollocks is it. Stop trying to gaslight MN.

And learn how apostrophes work.

southeastdweller · 03/06/2018 17:19

Of course some women trick men into being fathers, why deny it?

southeastdweller · 03/06/2018 17:22

^Men have lots of options.

So do women, or maybe you don't think so?

  • not shag married men
  • use contraception, maybe even double it
  • in some countries you can have a legal termination
CanIBuffalo · 03/06/2018 17:26

I have seen it advised on here too. Several times. Doesn't make it right though and the awfulness of it was pointed out.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 03/06/2018 17:26

Are you so weak that you'd be 'gaslighted' by a post from anybody? That's astonishing. Actually, maybe it isn't, given that so many hang off the words of a tabloid as resembling anything like the truth.

There are selfish, self-serving assholes of both sexes. Women get to decide the fate of an unwanted pregnancy, which is as it should be, but please, don't make women out to be incapable of deception anymore than a man is.

IAgreeWithOP · 03/06/2018 17:27

Exactly. Posters advising 'trickery' are handed their arse and told to fuck off somewhere else.
