Why doesn't anyone want my cat?

I've posted this in The Litter Tray, but am also cheekily posting here for traffic.

Hello,

I have to, reluctantly, give up my 2-year-old Maine Coon boy. For personal reasons I can no longer provide him a suitable home.

I've put up an advert on Pets4Homes, and NO-ONE is interested. He's a friendly energetic boy, GCCF registered, neutered, up to date with all of his jags, cuddly if you catch him in the right mood, and completely gorgeous.

AIBU to think SOMEONE would be interested in rehoming my cat, or is everyone just interested in kittens?

'A main coon is literally my dream cat (just don't tell my other two beautiful felines 👀)'

Mine, too! And my son's. Would take Frank in an instant but don't have hundreds to spend. And no, that doesn't mean I can't afford a cat. We have a lovely housecat, she has a chip, insurance, jabs, vet checks and a quality diet.

HemanOrSheRa · 24/05/2018 20:09

Oh it is my dream to have a Maine Coon! I've always had moggy rescues and abandoned cats. He is absolutely gorgeous and I would take him but I live in the SW Sad. It would be a very stressful journey. Please consider Expat Smile.

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/05/2018 20:12

Oh he's a love - I wish he was good with other cats as we have 3 maine coons (we had 4 until recently but our oldest died) and we're in Scotland.

The PP who said they have a reputation for being grumpy, I'm not sure what you've been reading but it couldn't be further from the truth - they're big soppy cuddle lumps! Mine are all indoor cats and totally child friendly and would happily spend all day on my knees!

koolkidsss · 24/05/2018 20:14

It's because you're trying to get people to pay for him. I know many cat lovers who go to rescue centres to rehome a cat, and say they would never pay for a cat as it encourages greedy breeders and people should rehome a cat rather than do this.

Contrabassista · 24/05/2018 20:23

If you’re anywhere near Manchester, we would be interested. They’re such beautiful cats.

KevinTurvey · 24/05/2018 20:25

He's bloody gorgeous op 😻
I hope you can find a loving home for him.

expatinscotland · 24/05/2018 20:28

Our cat came from a local FB page. A man some distance away posted and wanted 50 quid. So people started asking: is she spayed (she is that), is she microchipped (no), insured (no), jabs (no). Basically, he'd had her for 6 months and called her 'Cat'. Then he just said, 'You can have her for nuthin.' It took us hours to get there (our former moggie had died a couple of months previous and we went all the way to Carlisle to get him) and he couldn't get rid of her fast enough Sad. He had this awful Staffie dog in there that was growling its head off. He just threw a broken basin (that was supposed to be her litter tray) in a bag and a bowl and showed us the door.

Poor animal!

Her name is Tilly and she's a lovely black and white moggie who's settled in very well.

expatinscotland · 24/05/2018 20:29

He didn't even bother to ask anything about us. Luckily we consider our pets as part of the family so Tilly landed on her paws.

expatinscotland · 24/05/2018 20:38

He's BEAUTIFUL!!!

expatinscotland · 24/05/2018 20:43

I agree, Statistically! All the Maine Coons I've met have been lovely. We have no dogs, will never get a dog Sad and have older kids (9 and 12). Our cats have all been housecats. We bring the jungle to them Wink.

Bridechilla · 24/05/2018 20:46

Try Maine Coon club sites, they all have revoking sections, and most have a list of reputable people looking to rehome. Like here

Bridechilla · 24/05/2018 20:47

Also here

My Maine Coons are much bigger than this lad - I think my girl is probably about 15lbs and the boys are more like 2 stone. But they're just big goofballs; the largest lad was just running around the livingroom like a loon chasing the laser from a measuring gadget. They have an enormous scratchpost with wall mounted hammocks, another big scratchpost and loads of attention. We've used 3 different breeders and every one insisted on indoor only homes

They're the cat version of something like a golden retriever - big, dopey and cuddly!

Couple of photos just for expat!

expatinscotland · 24/05/2018 21:43

Ooooo! Statistically! They are like dogs in a cat's body. But still with those lovely cat characteristics that we love.

fruitcider · 24/05/2018 22:18

Breeders won't want your main coons because he is neutered.

The target market want kittens.

I'm so sorry x

expatinscotland · 24/05/2018 22:30

But plenty of us on here would love to have your Maine Coon. Smile

HemanOrSheRa · 24/05/2018 23:17

Oh I've seen photos of your babies before Statistically Smile. They are just beautiful. The thing is with a Maine Coon, I think, it that they are so big that it must be like having AN ACTUAL LION in your home Grin. Like a cat but more so. Be more CAT!

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/05/2018 23:26

The boys are a bit like lion cubs! And trust me you know when 28lb of them lands on you !

Op i really hope you can find him a home - I'd be tempted to try him with other cats if you know any friendly ones to introduce as it would make rehoming easier - most crazy cat folk already have one+, but will always make room for another!

PixieN · 24/05/2018 23:46

He’s gorgeous! I would love him, but I already have 2 cats & my DH would kill me as he didn’t want any originally! Luckily they’ve got him wrapped around their furry paws now Grin

Sounds likes @expatinscotland would give him a lovely home.

Lougle · 24/05/2018 23:58

@expatinscotland I'd love it if you had Frank. He looks like your kind of cat Flowers

RachelTeeth · 25/05/2018 00:04

Op has said she’s near N. Lanarkshire

PickAChew · 25/05/2018 00:15

Gosh he's lovely and might even be able to stand up to my kids. DH, OTOH..

Noqont · 25/05/2018 00:18

I'd love your cat but unfortunately dp has a severe allergy to cats. Unless I get rid of dp and get a cat instead 🤔

ShovingLeopard · 25/05/2018 00:38

OMG, he's magnificent!! 😍

I'd love him, but I'm in London, with an asthmatic, cat-allergic DH (could kick him out, I suppose), and a feral near-3 year old, who would probably drive him nuts wanting to play all the time.

expat seems like the ideal new owner to me....

ShovingLeopard · 25/05/2018 00:39

Noqont great minds....
