Why doesn't anyone want my cat?

I've posted this in The Litter Tray, but am also cheekily posting here for traffic.

Hello,

I have to, reluctantly, give up my 2-year-old Maine Coon boy. For personal reasons I can no longer provide him a suitable home.

I've put up an advert on Pets4Homes, and NO-ONE is interested. He's a friendly energetic boy, GCCF registered, neutered, up to date with all of his jags, cuddly if you catch him in the right mood, and completely gorgeous.

AIBU to think SOMEONE would be interested in rehoming my cat, or is everyone just interested in kittens?

Him nice boy. I love cats, but unfortunately can't take him as a) we live in Canada, and b) we already have three cats. I have promised Hubby we will not be getting any more for the foreseeable future.

FrankTheCat · 24/05/2018 17:37

@Caaarrrl I've asked people to DM me.

It's a bit difficult to reply to everyone here - I can't keep up! And I should really get on with some work today . . .

Well, I don't want a cat but if I did I would want yours - he's gorgeous!

Jaxhog · 24/05/2018 17:43

Ta;k to your local rescue e.g. Cats Protection or RSPCA. Also ask your Vet for suggestions.

A reputable rescue will thoroughly check a new owner (all our cats are rescued). They'll also tell you if there's likely to be a problem rehoming him. But it's a much better bet than selling your lovely boy, if you want him to go to a good home.

BTW, he looks gorgeous!

DearMrDilkington · 24/05/2018 17:50

His so beautiful! My cat would be terrified of him though, maybe that's putting a lot of people off? Not many cats would be happy with a Maine Coon suddenly rocking up on their sofa.

I'd ask a local rescue centre if they could help find a suitable home for him, it's the safest way imo.

SheisAfucker · 24/05/2018 17:52

You will find a perfect home I'm sure. I adopted a 5yr old pedigree ragdoll male last year to keep my ragdoll kitten. The owner just
wanted him to be loved he is a diva who loves his walks on his harness and has his own Instagram page
Grin. If you were in Pembrokeshire
I would offer a fab
home with my two housecats. Good luck

SheisAfucker · 24/05/2018 17:53

Keep my ragdoll kitten company that should say!

FrankTheCat

Did you see the post from ExpatInScotland?

I have known her for years on here and I know, in person, others who have met her in person.

She would give your cat a very loving home. It’s worth seeing if your cat would get on with her cat.

There is no way on gods green earth I’d rehome an animal via Facebook, gumtree or anywhere like that.

I’d consider it on MN with a well known, longtime poster who people had met. And Expat any day of the week.

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/05/2018 18:10

I've met Expat in real life and know her well, she's a lovely pet owner, your cat would be loved and cherished, and part of her family, I guarantee it.

NoSquirrels · 24/05/2018 18:13

My goodness, he's gorgeous.

Seconding that I'm sure expat would be a sound bet...

ScreamingValenta · 24/05/2018 18:14

I would jump at the chance to own your lovely cat if I lived in your area and if I didn't know my dear old 18 year old boy would be disturbed by a newcomer.

I do hope you will find someone to cherish him.

Barbaro · 24/05/2018 18:15

Aw I'd love him, always wanted a maine coon. My first cat was massive because I think he was part wildcat, but was a lovely cat.

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/05/2018 18:17

I'm not sure why you are asking for money.
I understand people on Gumtree etc do in the hope that people will actually think it through before getting a cat.
If no one pays the price for your cat will you then keep him, even though you've said you can't?

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 24/05/2018 18:18

People tend to go for kittens over cats because as my mum points out your taking on someone else’s problem and people tend to lie and say that the cat is really loving and cuddly when in reality it’s not at all and that’s why people normally don’t go for cats. Not saying your lying but people are probably looking at your advert and are thinking there’s something wrong with the cat.

HisBetterHalf · 24/05/2018 18:20

We do really love him, and we are heartbroken
Not love him that much though or you would have kept him

MyPuppyIsADick · 24/05/2018 18:24

Oh he’s gorgeous, we’re in Scotland and he’d be lovely company for my indoor ragdoll 😍 if only I could get DH on board...

Are you near Ayrshire OP? Grin

Unnecessary cruel comment, you dont know the circumstances for re-homing, this lady is trying to find a good home for him.Hmm

KittenBeast · 24/05/2018 18:31

HisBetterHalf you sound like nobody's better half, you sound like a cunt. Fuck off.

fourfuckssake4 · 24/05/2018 18:59

He is one handsome boy, unfortunately you live to far from me meSad.
Stewpots, so glad to hear Heidi is doing ok Smile

ScreamingValenta · 24/05/2018 19:01

MyPuppyIsADick What a beautiful ragdoll.

ImSoExhausted · 24/05/2018 19:45

A main coon is literally my dream cat (just don't tell my other two beautiful felines 👀)
Where abouts are you? North West by any chance? I'd love to adopt an adult cat over a kitten, especially one struggling to find a new home!
