Why doesn't anyone want my cat?

I've posted this in The Litter Tray, but am also cheekily posting here for traffic.

Hello,

I have to, reluctantly, give up my 2-year-old Maine Coon boy. For personal reasons I can no longer provide him a suitable home.

I've put up an advert on Pets4Homes, and NO-ONE is interested. He's a friendly energetic boy, GCCF registered, neutered, up to date with all of his jags, cuddly if you catch him in the right mood, and completely gorgeous.

AIBU to think SOMEONE would be interested in rehoming my cat, or is everyone just interested in kittens?

You can set up a Facebook account in about two minutes. You don't need to have friends on it or use your real name, you just need an email address.

Trinity66 · 24/05/2018 16:28

Really? Seems a shame for the cat based on what I know of the breed. Persians and Ragdolls are much better suited to a quiet life on the sofa.

Maybe that's why then? There can't be that many people why would choose a large, active hunting cat when looking for a lap cat to live in a small flat with.

I don't know really, my guy is a bit of a slob tbh, I don't think he'd last a day outside to his own devices but I'd feel really bad never ever letting him outside either that's why my DH built him the enclosure and I''ll leave him out in the garden if I'm home. Like in our garden there's only one part that he can get out which tells you what kind of a cat he is really and why he'd struggle out in the real world. Any normal cat would easily scale the fence etc in my garden, he kind of looks at it and thinks "far too much effort" Grin

If you need to rehome a maine coon, then you can contact me to have their details added to the website.

*I'm not sure how I would know if they've received my message?

Like I said, I've contacted them and not received a reply - not much more I can do re. the breeder*

Do you mean an email? I wouldn’t trust that. Definitely best to give them a call and I’m sure they’ll be receptive. Good breeders always take their cats back.

If anybody has any specific suggestions, or knows someone with experience and interest, please do message me.

I'm in N. Lanarkshire Smile

The contracts aren't a legal document. They cannot be enforced.

GnotherGnu · 24/05/2018 16:32

I'd love a cat, and in many ways an indoor cat might provide an answer to my problem that we live too near a busy road. However, I'd still worry about the cat being left on its own in the house all day when we're at work, and I must admit the lazy part of me doesn't want to deal with long fur being shed all over the place.

somethingsneverchange · 24/05/2018 16:32

@KittenBeast then that was the fault of whoever you got the adult cat from as he clearly wasn't suitable for rehoming with another cat.
I've worked at a rescue centres for years so I have experience and that is classic behaviour for a cat who doesn't like another cat being in his territory.

Raeven · 24/05/2018 16:32

I am in South Lanarkshire but I use the app to talk so I have no idea how to dm if I need to.

This is true, but I would have thought that would seem particularly suspicious? I'm not sure I would trust someone without a FB history, personally.

OP, you'll never get a FB history if you don't join Grin

It sounds as though the Maine Coon groups on there are pretty active. Why don't you at least try it? You've nothing to lose.

Raeven · 24/05/2018 16:39

Aww he is gorgeous

Rudgie47 · 24/05/2018 16:40

You'll get someone off here for him, hes beautiful. I'd have had him if I didnt have 2 cats already.

OneStepSideways · 24/05/2018 16:40

He's beautiful! But I would use a different photo for the selling sites, one that makes him look friendlier and more cuddly. He looks like a fearsome hunter in that photo, not an indoor cat you'd want to share a small space with!
