To have been quite shocked by my friend and think this was really bad manners

I was having dinner with my friend and her two year old DS. We both ordered salmon and the dish came with new potatoes and peas. The portions were quite large so there was a bit of fussing as Webb ‘donated’ some food to DS for his dinner.

If she took some of your food for her son yes she is rude.
If she used her own portion of food, you're being ridiculous.

Sorry, pressed post by mistake.

Anyway, my friend suddenly announced that there was too much and started piling a load of food on my plate. Didn’t ask, or check I wanted any more. But suddenly I had this massive portion.

I know I didn’t have to eat it but that’s not the point. I just think you shouldn’t suddenly dump a load of food on somebody’s plate!

If so she was being unreasonable but I've been told that worse things happen at sea.

It sounds like you're annoyed that she put food on your plate without asking. Which for me, couldn't be less of an issue. Either say 'no thanks, I've got enough' or just leave it.

Yes a bit rude if you didn't ask for it. But you don't have to eat it and just say No.

Sharing with a small child is fine I did this all this time when mine where to small to eat a full portion themselves. Espicaly if they children options where rubbish as they often preferred the adult choice.

OK.. you, friend and her 2 year old, meal ordered and friend gave some of hers to her DS and then dumped anything else she didn't want onto your plate, as though you were another child, or a known glutton?

She has forgotten how grown ups act. You should have told her, you aren't a child and she needs to remember how it is to be an adult! Make a joke of it but, ye gods, that's an odd thing to do!

So.... you and your friend both gave some of your large portions to her DS for his meal. Then your friend decided that there was too much on her DS's plate and took some off and put it back on your plate. And you are upset by her putting it on your plate and think she's rude. Is that right?

If that's right.... get a grip. She was trying to be considerate. She'd taken some food from your plate for her DS and when it was too much for him wanted to make sure you got your fair share back and in doing so was over-generous.

If it had been the other way round (ie if she had let you donate food to her DS then she's taken it off his plate and eaten it herself) then you would have been justified in thinking she was rude.
