To have been quite shocked by my friend and think this was really bad manners

I was having dinner with my friend and her two year old DS. We both ordered salmon and the dish came with new potatoes and peas. The portions were quite large so there was a bit of fussing as Webb ‘donated’ some food to DS for his dinner.

At IKEA they pit the food on the plate while you're waiting and watching, so not sure why you wouldn't just say when they'd already put enough out, rather than let them give u too much in the first place??

XmasInTintagel · 15/02/2018 18:25

So has IKEA changed to table service then??

WorraLiberty · 15/02/2018 18:33

Yes but you have to build the table yourself.

I can't bear too much food and, while I can see others might consider you were making a fuss, I don't. I would have been upset and annoyed.

MadMags · 15/02/2018 19:08

Yeah but would you have eaten it???

SchadenfreudePersonified · 15/02/2018 19:19

I would have scoffed it and thought "YES! THERE IS A GOD!!!!!"

Which is why I am grossly overweight.

The next time you go out together forefoot, take tupperware.

MumsTheWordYouKnow · 15/02/2018 19:44

The whole post is unclear. Starting a thread and confusing everyone because you can’t check your post properly is far worse manners than a bit of extra food on your plate. I’m still not clear if it was 2 plates of food ordered, put too much on the child’s plate and gave you back some 🤷‍♀️

I hate it when people pile food on my plate DH does it all the time when we have pizza, he gets a slice, I eat slower so he will put one on mine. I know he's trying to make sure I get my share but it makes me anxious.

i do realise that's not that normal

greeneyedlulu · 15/02/2018 20:13

Depends on how long have you been friends. I wouldn't think this weird with someone I've known for years but 2 weeks, yes!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 15/02/2018 20:19

*for food - not forefoot

browneyes77 · 15/02/2018 20:21

I hate people doing this. And I think it’s rude unless they’ve asked you if you want it or unless you’ve offered to eat something they have left.

But I’m really pernickety and won’t eat food off other peoples plates, won’t eat off a fork someone has already had in their mouth, won’t drink out of a bottle or a can if someone has already drank out of it (backwash eeeww) and most certainly do not like people puttting any sort of food from their plate onto mine unless they haven’t touched any of it when they do. I’m just real weird about stuff like that.

So if it was me I’d have stopped her the minute she attempted to do it.

Annette69 · 15/02/2018 20:31

I think you need to get a grip, what a waste of time even thinking about it let alone writing it.

Aridane · 15/02/2018 20:43

Annette - that’s a bit rude (and would in any case probably apply to the majority of Mumsnetnthreads)

Annette69 · 15/02/2018 21:01

Ariadane, not rude, just stating what most are thinking. Most threads are not that juvenile.

GUMBYMUMBY · 15/02/2018 21:02

Your friend gave you extra food? I expect she thought you would be pleased to have a bit more....
I don't understand.
It's not rude, it's a friend thing.
Are you weight watching?

CalleighDoodle · 15/02/2018 21:36

friend was rude to put food on your plate you didnt agree to.
you were ridiculous to eat it. youre an adult.

Geordie1944 · 16/02/2018 08:49

PhuntSox · 16/02/2018 14:28

She was rude, and unhygienic. I would have tipped it back onto her plate!
