To think this is quite rude? I paid for her £72.34 shopping.

I work part-time in a supermarket and it was someone's last shift. I do have a gift for her at home (as she didn't know her leaving date) but I told her to grab a few bits and I'll treat her (I didn't know what else to do).

The shopping came to £72.34! She then goes "thanks so much".

She also knows I'm a student :(

Maybe it's my fault for doing what I did, but don't you think that's quite rude?

Welp, that's her gift sorted then. Don't give her the other item. Either enjoy it.for yourself or get a refund to replenish your bank balance.

And don't let this happen again, op!

Curtainshopping · 24/01/2018 20:48

What did she get for £70?

LilacBearberry · 24/01/2018 20:49

I have no idea what would even be acceptable wine to buy - I have never really drunk. I thought it was easier to just say that :/ I honestly didn't view it as odd. I'm really shocked it is.

She picked out like a whole bunch of shopping. Yoghurts for her kids, etc.

restingbemusedface · 24/01/2018 20:49

Yes it was an odd offer. If you wanted her to pick up a bottle of wine and some chocolate why didn’t you just buy it and give it to her rather than asking her to ‘grab a few bits’??

Greensleeves · 24/01/2018 20:49

It wasn't a bizarre offer, it was really thoughtful and sweet. I would have picked some nice biscuits and a bottle of cheap prosecco.

Unfortunately you have been taken for a ride by one of life's selfish amoral assholes. I feel really bad for you.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 24/01/2018 20:49

Massive piss take. With hindsight I suppose you should have asked red or white or chocolates?

Jaygee61 · 24/01/2018 20:50

I fucking hate people who take advantage of other people’s kindness that way.

cookiedough1 · 24/01/2018 20:50

Surely not? I mean she is some level of CF but Jesus Christ OP, why did you pay Hmm

WetPaint4 · 24/01/2018 20:51

She proceeded to do what seems like a weekly shop and at no point did you think: 'that looks like a lot of stuff, I better tell her there's a limit'? You didn't see her with a trolley and think, 'hold up...'

I don't understand how this could happen.

She's awful, but people like her take advantage of people like you.

TealStar · 24/01/2018 20:51

OMG what a CF.
I am aghast at this . OP why didn’t you just laugh at her and say “ok which ONE of these items shall I pay for?” I can’t believe you went ahead and paid for them!

I get why you paid. Yes she was a CF.

Glumglowworm · 24/01/2018 20:52

She is a proper CF, that’s a ridiculous amount to have spent on someone’s generosity, but you really need to learn to say No!

You should have simply said “oh I didn’t know today was your last day! I have a gift for you at home, when would be good to meet up so I can give it to you?”

Work on saying no OP, it’ll do you good and stop CFs taking advantage of you

TyneTeas · 24/01/2018 20:52

I was going to ask if she perhaps thought you had co-ordinated a collection, but yoghurts for her kids!? That's a weekly shop not a leaving present!

purplecorkheart · 24/01/2018 20:53

I am sorry but it really was an odd offer. She should not have taken advantage but you did leave yourself wide open. Honestly if that situation comes up again pick up a couple of scratch cards or a lotto ticket and a sorry your leaving card. Unfortunately, there are people who take advantage.

10thingsIhateAboutTheDailyMail · 24/01/2018 20:54

I hope this did not really happen

If it did, it was money well spent on an invaluable life lesson

formerbabe · 24/01/2018 20:54

No good deed goes unpunished.

Branleuse · 24/01/2018 20:54

well you walked into that one. Lesson learned.

Deshasafraisy · 24/01/2018 20:56

She’s a cf.
you’re a mug

sonjadog · 24/01/2018 20:57

Take this as an opportunity to learn to never let someone walk all over you in the same way again.

Emmageddon · 24/01/2018 20:58

Wow. You really shouldn't have paid for her entire shop. Too late now, but crikey, I'd be livid if someone took advantage of my daughter's good nature. She must have realised you meant for her to get a bottle of wine and some chocs, not a full trolley of groceries.

ArmySal · 24/01/2018 20:59

If that straight up no shit happened, she's a cheeky cheeky fucker Shock

Gobsmacked you didn't stop her!

CoolCarrie · 24/01/2018 21:00

You did a kind thing and she took the piss, but it says more about her than you. Mark it up to experience. It was more than rude it was terrible!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 24/01/2018 21:00

Why is it a bizarre offer??? She's a massive CF though. Sorry OP. I can see how it would be easy to 'freeze' and not know how to refuse when put on the spot. Sad

hiphopchick · 24/01/2018 21:02

@LilacBearberry

Did all of this this actually happen?
