AIBU to be fuming at this CF and my lack of rights?! (Parking thread)

OK so I come home from taking the kids to school and when I arrive home someone is parked in my space. Not just anyone but the little black car that had 3 students in it I had seen driving in on my way out. Now normally student park in our residents only visitors bay which is annoying enough but this time they have parked in my privately owned and numbered parking space. So I cannot use it!

The council won’t do anything the police won’t do anything and even the college won’t do anything!

I honestly can’t believe the lack of rights people have on their own properties! This car is going to be in my space for at least 6 hours!

Why can’t there be some new system where people can call and report vehicles to be towed from their property at a smallish fee and then the owners of said cars have to pay the remaining fee to retrieve their cars?

Is there space to park in front of it? Even if sideways?

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 10/01/2018 10:00

Tbh I'd key it.

Only half joking

BashStreetKid · 10/01/2018 10:00

Are there signs up saying the spaces are private? If not, you need them. And maybe bollards?

PineappleScrunchie · 10/01/2018 10:00

YANBU

I’d focus efforts on hassling the college to do something about it. The students will have probably signed some sort of code of conduct, you just need to incentivise the college to take some action.

AmUsername · 10/01/2018 10:01

Penguin bollards!!! Grin

AlexanderHamilton · 10/01/2018 10:02

Is there any way at all to block it in?

We had the same at work - a student trying to park on our privately owned car park, luckily the boss spotted them trying to manoeuvre round our vans.

jessebuni · 10/01/2018 10:02

There are clear signs saying the entire close is resident parking only. Just knocked on a few neighbors doors just to check it wasn’t a visitor to one of them. It isn’t. So there’s a note on the car and I’m trying to figure out how to block them in without blocking number 9s space

Phone the college and complain. Follow up with email attaching photos of number plate. Repeat hourly. Once I'd accept twice I'd take a bat to the windows.

Idontdowindows · 10/01/2018 10:03

Can you block them in?

At the very least leave a note saying this is privately owned parking.

And yes, contact their college as well.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 10/01/2018 10:04

I’d park in front of them so they can’t get out. Make them have to come and knock for you to move it. Cheeky buggers.

jessebuni · 10/01/2018 10:05

I contacted the college but they are adamant that they can’t do anything. I asked if they could send a notice round all students to tell them to move it but they said they no longer have a central messaging system. Smells like bull to me. But they won’t help I have now spoken to three different people at the college

Damn someone beat me to penguin bollards Grin

PositivelyPERF · 10/01/2018 10:06

Dog shit under the door handle. Someone close to me obviously reads mumsnet, as I actually saw this done to a badly parked car in the local park.

EEandEmakes3 · 10/01/2018 10:06

I would take a photo & put it on the college's Facebook page and Twitter page.

PurpleStarInCashmereSky · 10/01/2018 10:07

Yes I think the best thing would be to make yourself a real nuisance to the college as well as the students. Lipstick note on the windscreen if you can't block them in.

mamas12 · 10/01/2018 10:08

Contact the college again and every hour
Contact your community police officer to contact the college
Contact the council to contact the college
Contact your local councilor to contact the college

Block them in with something

WaggyMama · 10/01/2018 10:08

Speak to No9 and tell them you are blocking the CF car in, if they need you to move give them your mobile.

CF Student won't do it again.

jessebuni · 10/01/2018 10:08

I have now blocked them in as shown in addition to diagram.

Open a tin off tuna and pour the oil over the door handle and over the grill at the front of the car. It'll smell lovely when it warms up.

KungFuEric · 10/01/2018 10:10

Yes is number nine at home now? I think you need to get them on side and block the car in.

God id love to give some students a right go for being such parking plebs.

RadioGaGoo · 10/01/2018 10:10

Well I am looking forward to this outcome. Good job OP

mamas12 · 10/01/2018 10:12

Brilliant and don't forget to keep your phone handy when they return
Remembering also that you don't have to move it when they need their car you might have had a little drink and can't drive tonight so they will have to come back in the morning oh dear

jessebuni · 10/01/2018 10:13

Unfortunately number 9 is at work however number 3 is now home and there is no way the CF can get out. This sign is literally about 3 meters from we’re they are parked.
