AIBU to be fuming at this CF and my lack of rights?! (Parking thread)

OK so I come home from taking the kids to school and when I arrive home someone is parked in my space. Not just anyone but the little black car that had 3 students in it I had seen driving in on my way out. Now normally student park in our residents only visitors bay which is annoying enough but this time they have parked in my privately owned and numbered parking space. So I cannot use it!

The council won’t do anything the police won’t do anything and even the college won’t do anything!

I honestly can’t believe the lack of rights people have on their own properties! This car is going to be in my space for at least 6 hours!

Why can’t there be some new system where people can call and report vehicles to be towed from their property at a smallish fee and then the owners of said cars have to pay the remaining fee to retrieve their cars?

Shamelessly place marking

greendale17 · 10/01/2018 11:19

Make them knock your door. Maybe the shame and inconvenience of it all will make them be more considerate the next time they decide to park.

McDougal · 10/01/2018 11:19

This is amazing. They might just abandon the car for fear of facing the nasty people they'll have bitched to their mates about Grin

MadMags · 10/01/2018 11:21

This is brilliant! I'm supposed to be working...

MotherofaSurvivor · 10/01/2018 11:22

Swing They need to be taught a lesson! (They're students don't forget..Wink) They need to learn to face up to their responsibilities and the consequences of their actions!! In this case the consequences are having the balls to knock on the door!!!!!! Otherwise they will turn into entitled brats with no sense of responsibility

MoonfaceAndSilky · 10/01/2018 11:22

OP is loving the whole drama of it and I find this really pathetic for a grown up....It would have been so easy to go out and resolve it there and then.

Why should she though? They are in the wrong and OP is teaching them a very valuable lesson.

Hortonlovesahoo · 10/01/2018 11:22

Silly question but can they see the number on the ground if their car is over it?

punkpuffin · 10/01/2018 11:22

Do you not have a parking company that hands out fines? I used to live in flats with resident parking. We all had permits and if there was a car there with out a permit or a visitors pass the parking company would hand out fines.

twotired · 10/01/2018 11:24

Placemarking for later Grin

Figrollsnotfatrolls · 10/01/2018 11:24

Maybe they have gone to summon the college rugby team?

BristolLFR · 10/01/2018 11:25

Blatant place mark

SnowWhitesRestingBitchFace · 10/01/2018 11:25

Obviously they aren't mature enough to do anything practical about the situation and that's why they haven't tried to contact you. They've probably gone off to moan to anyone who will listen now about how unfair the situation is (leaving out the part that the space was residential only).

PuppyMonkey · 10/01/2018 11:25

Behind you all the way on this OP. Don't move car until they ask. In fact, if they ever do knock, it would be an extra shame if you and your DP had gone out until some time tomorrow.Wink

Andrewofgg · 10/01/2018 11:26

Maybe they have mock exams and were desperate

TFB if they were. The whole world does not resolve around students and their problems. Make it hard for them.

Atalune · 10/01/2018 11:26

Wow- what idiots not to come and apologise. What are they thinking!?

NoMoreUsernames · 10/01/2018 11:27

I could have written this exact same thread! I have a private numbered space and live near a business park, regularly get cf's parking in my clearly numbered space, most recently 2 days ago when some CF parked in it overnight! They'd gone before I went to work so I put one of the many parking cones in our street in my space when I went to work and when I came home they'd moved the parking cone and parked in my space again! So I parked up really close and unfortunately had to open all my car doors which may have caused a little damage (drive an old banger so don't care if it gets scratched/dented) then left a not very polite note on their car. Haven't seen it since.
On previous occasions I have laid in wait and caught the cf's upon their return whereby I have gone out and tore strips off them, none have returned. Good luck OP.

kaitlinktm · 10/01/2018 11:27

Silly question but can they see the number on the ground if their car is over it?

I think the OP said it was on the note she left them too.

RunningAddict · 10/01/2018 11:27

Placemark Grin

BoffinMum · 10/01/2018 11:29

Take the registration details. Stick an official-looking private parking ticket on there for £80, £40 if they pay within 14 days. See what happens.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 10/01/2018 11:31

Blatant place making to see if the students return.

Pickleypickles · 10/01/2018 11:31

Stick to your guns OP!! You are officially my favourite poster of the week Grin

swingofthings · 10/01/2018 11:31

Swing They need to be taught a lesson! (They're students don't forget..wink) They need to learn to face up to their responsibilities and the consequences of their actions!!
Agree 100%, they do need to learn their lesson, but didn't require that level of involvement. Adults need to learn lessons all the time too.

Why they would have knock on other people's door but not OP if her door number was clearly indicated makes no sense at all. Maybe they didn't read the note?

It could have been all sorted by now. Instead, OP now has to wonder what happens if they've left for the week and don't come back until Monday.

HotelEuphoria · 10/01/2018 11:31

I think they have gone back to college after nipping out in a break or free period. They will back at lunchtime with maybe a different set of mates who will find it hilarious and egg them on to have to balls to knock on the door. no one will so they will come back at 3pm to find the same before going home and telling their parents.

Said parents will then turn up and be obnoxious or maybe very apologetic about their idiot offspring and the drama will be over.

In the mean time, we can sit back and enjoy the updates.

Anyone who lives by a school/college will have sympathy with the OP.

I do.

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/01/2018 11:32

Is it just me that's thinking that the CFs will now be reasonably happy? Maybe they only came back because college did tell them or another student saw them blocked and passed it on? Now they are happily in your space for the rest of the day and don't have to bother finding another. They can now either knock and apologise when they are finished for the day or just watch and wait for you to leave and then move.

Kazzyhoward · 10/01/2018 11:32

Unfortunately, I think the OP has shot themselves in the foot now. The kids came back to move it, maybe because they'd been contacted via the college, but they couldn't move it, so have gone back to college for the rest of the day.
