to wonder why Corbyn isn't more popular considering the battering Theresa May/the Tories is getting?

The Tories/Theresa May have been getting an absolute kicking in the press recently (rightly deserved) and every day there seems to be a new controversy. May seems completely inefficient and doesn't seem to know whether she is coming or going (literally).

However, I am surprised that Corbyn/Labour is not polling higher. On all the polls I have looked at his rating seems to be either equal to, very slightly above or very slightly below May. He should be well out in front at this point.

I am not a Corbyn/Labour fan (although agree with a lot of their policies) but I am wondering why is he not polling better?

Because he is god awful! I would have voted Labour in the last election if they had had a better leader.

Economy has been doing great lately hasn’t it? Lowest growth in eurozone, sterling tanked, inflation up.

I think some people need to realise that the smear campaign against Corbyn failed ages ago.

I don’t trust him and as for John MacDonald, I just heard him on Radio 4 and had to turn off the radio. I hate the story’s with a passsion, they are nasty cunts imo but unless labour get someone else in charge they’re not likely to get in power.

Because everybody thinks that if you vote labour you're voting for people to never work and get paid 500,000 a year or some other ridiculous amount.
Or you're voting for them to pay CEO's less than cleaners.
Or you're voting for them to burn Jews. Etc. come on, even as a labour voter (I am one and always have been) you must know why people won't vote for him - justifiably so or not?

A lot of people don't see him as a credible alternative.

Whilst he is popular with the younger generation I think he is viewed with a degree of suspicion amongst the older (less idealistic?) generation. And by older I'm not necessarily talking about pensioners.

I also think that, bar in times of a general election and/or referendum, there is a general apathy towards politics in this country.

I remarked the other day (and I realise this is total anecdata) that you don't hear people discussing brexit so much, other than in a jokey sort of way. People were interested in whether it happened or not, and will no doubt be interested in how it's going next time there is a general election but the actual mechanics of it - less so.

I am hazarding a guess that it is because conservative economic policies have been in place since Thatcher (early 1980s), including new Labour years and before that the Labour government was considered to have destroyed the economy. Corbyn is reminiscent of "old Labour" therefore servely misstrusted.

I honestly think it can't get any worse and whatever havoc people seem to think Corbyn is capable of creating just look at the country now.

The country is in a poor state due mismanagement through the New Labour years of BLiar and McRuin and Cameron Tory government to Mays hapless PM ship.

However for Zimbabwe or Venezuelan wrecked vote Corbyn.

He's been an MP forever and nobody has noticed him (apart from for his friendships with terrorists of course). Then he offers free tuition fees and suddenly he's the Messiah? Pffft. He and McConnell would wreck the economy even more than the current shower of losers.

I'd love to see a decent alternative. Come on, old labour failed miserably; new labour and the conservatives haven't achieved much in a long time. Is it time to give the lib dems a shot???

The media,social, print and tv, (including the bbc), love to bring people down. May is "falling apart", "Corbyn is a monster", "the Government is in ruins". Actually we really don't know what the situation is. Occasionally on MN we get really excellent threads with posts from people who know what is going on and can supply stats, inside info, a thoughtful and informed view but generally it is all meaningless.

The BBC loves it if they can create news - their "assertion" becomes the story, then their story becomes the story. Most social media is a series of accusations and insults. You are FOR or AGAINST - if you don't say "All xxx are Bad" then you are Bad yourself.

What is really happening? The polls don't reflect much of use. Look at the voting or better still people's buying power, how they spend their money, where they choose to live, whether and where they choose to work. They are the decisions we take that reflect our politics in fact

I have to say if Labour offered a credible alternative I'd have a closer look, but while they have that gimp in charge no way.

No nuclear deterrent when Russia are rattling their sabres - good move half wit.

Let's see how he is seen when the next vote comes along. That's what I really mean

My own dd is a student. She and her friends thought he was fab, initially.

They went to hear him speak before the last election and left feeling very underwhelmed. She said he was all sound bites and no substance with absolutely zero charisma.
