Yes he's a violent idiot but bloody hell, 40years just seems a bit harsh for someone who.is probably more mad than bad.......when you consider a man who raped and murdered two children is being released and will serve less time than a man who's never really been given a chance it all sounds a bit ridiculous.

Let's ignore the numerous incidents of GBH, let's ignore the repeated instances of hostage-taking including one resulting in a two day siege, let's ignore the two times he was only prevented from killing people by sheer chance. Let's also ignore the fact that the reason he hasn't committed a violent offence recently is probably that he's getting older and he's being held under such tight security that it's near-impossible. He's obviously a living saint.

I think he was released for a couple of months back in the day but couldn't cope with being on the 'out'. I'm sure he will be careful not to get himself released. I work in prisons (as a nurse) and there are worse places to be TBH.

I think we can all see who the tool is, ImJustMe. He's been an incredibly violent man for virtually all his adult life. I'm prepared to accept that those responsible for parole decisions who have all his records in front of them are in a better position to assess whether he's a changed man than you are.
