Silly reasons why you haven't used a baby name?

I love the name Venus but i didnt use it as it rhymes with penis and i thought that kids at school might pick on her for that.

I didn't name one of mine Ellie because my children's names would then rhyme Silly and Smelly.

I also avoided Violet because I knew I'd accidentally add a a letter in at least one birthday card and end with Violent. And Poppy might end up Poopy.

As it is I do have a habit of misspelling the youngest's name when tired after writing lots of Christmas cards.

My dd was going to be Nicole, but her initials would have been NOB.
So that was quickly changed

I didn't choose a first name as it was very similar to a celebrity name with using dps surname (along the line of Beryl Cole cheryl cole but not that)

DP said we couldn’t use Freya for DD because it was to close to Fry bentos pie and she’d be bullied....

I was laughed at when I chose one name as it was too 'ethnic'?? I used it anyway and glad I did, because it's very subjective isn't it, and most people love his name. I did also use another name that is very old english, has a counterpart in welsh and nobody can pronounce it correctly (except the people who bother to look at the name, it's only a vowel difference); at least she will know who is bothered to know her name properly in the future. The last name I picked had was pretty straight up, I'll tell you that.

We were going to use Marlene for DD's middle name after one of DP's favourite aunties.
However, I kept saying it like Boycie from Only Fools and Horses and I knew that everytime I had to state her middle name, the inner Boycie in me would come out.

Because I've never had a baby

I couldn't choose a name ending with a 'k' sound because when coupled with our second name it would sound like an unfortunate swear word beginning with 'c" . It's a shame because I loved the name Luke - it wasn't until I said it out loud one day that I realised. Maybe it's a good reason though.

I didn't use Violet because I have an accent where it sounds awful! Also DH said it reminded him of "violent"

I didn't use Eris because the (family) middle name and surname also had an 's' sound in them. If she'd had a lisp there wouldn't have been any part of her name she could say! Think Erith Graith Weathley. Shame as Eris was goddess of destruction which would have suited her wel!

DH didn't want Ophelia because he said that people would call her "Oaf" for short.

I didn't use Gabriella because dh famously had a crush at work (before we met) on a Gabriella and his boss would have laughed at him.

I friend of mine loved the name Effie but didn’t use it because ‘If she’s chubby people might call her ‘Effie the Heffie’

I really liked the name Charlie but couldn’t use it as my surname is Prince

I love the name Louisa, but didn't use it for DD as DH has a slightly odd colleague of this name. She would have thought we'd named DD after her.

I also know someone, now an adujt, who was going to be called Aaron until the week before he was born, when someone told his mother to "keep your hair on", which put her off the name.

I liked Aria but myself and DP are very blonde blue eyed and my DM said it sounded like we were calling her Aryan

I am not called Charlotte because my Dad thought I would be called Lottie. OK, but why give me a name where the dimunitive is slang for the Khazi?

I liked the name Hannah for my daughter but some very much older relatives kept singing " Hard hearted Hannah the Vamp from Savannah"

After a week of various renditions just before baby was born I decided that the continual singing would drive all of us bonkers.

Still like the name though and Ella Fitzgerald does a much better version of it.

I liked the name Charlotte but wouldn't use it because a girl at school was always called Charlotte the harlot

Our kids have the same surname as Coffee's. We couldn't have Patrick for that reason.

I had a most beloved cat called Maggie and when she was tragically killed by a car me and dp said if we had a girl we would name her Maggie. Plus we loved the name.

Then we had a girl, and we couldn't decide on a middle name. In fact the only middle name that felt right was my mother's name, and my mother is also sadly deceased. And that was just too many dead things for a baby to be named after, so Maggie had to go!

DS was going to be called Oscar James throughout most of my pregnancy, but then with the Oscar Pistorious trial going on it put me off, so his dad said we'd probably call him OJ for short anyway. Obviously that felt even worse and I just felt he'd never be able to go into sport with either names

I loved the name Ruby but my DH insisted that people would think that it's a boy because of the Irish fella Ruby Walsh and we didn't use it

My husband rejected the name Ishmael because it's 'too Jewish '. Our other three sons have Jewish names.
