I love the name Venus but i didnt use it as it rhymes with penis and i thought that kids at school might pick on her for that.

We had narrowed it down to 2 choices for ds' name. At the time I was pregnant, so was one of dh's colleagues and she just happened to have the same 2 names on her shortlist. Her ds was born first so we chose the name that she hadn't.

We didn't use Eva for dd because if you say Eva Holly too quickly it sounds like E Brolly so we chose something else.

AliTheMinx · 06/10/2017 21:15

My cousin has a DD called Rose and a few years late she was expecting a DS. She confided in her hair stylist that they liked the name Frederick, and she instantly said: "Oh, like the murderers, Rose and Fred West?". Needless to say I now have a nephew who is not called Frederick!!! Grin

I loved the name Amber but middle name was always going to be Lynn... Amber Lynn sounded slightly Tudoresque! And as I am a history nerd I thought people would judge me!

Mumthulu · 06/10/2017 21:21

I couldn't use Holly, Rosie or Damian; My surname is Thorn!

I wasn't allowed Benjamin, because we had a friend who was an asshole to my husband, and he vetoed the name.
We chose a first name beginning with F, and hubs suggested Alice Rebecca as her middle names. Yes, my husband wanted my daughter's initials to be F.A.R.T.
I said no.

Gottleogear · 06/10/2017 21:29

I wanted Matthew but OH pointed out it would be shortened to Matt, our surname is White
So Matt White, as in the paint Smile ....he was called something different after that !

VividSnare · 06/10/2017 21:31

Oh bless some of these and I didn't chose the name because we both new 'that darling energetic child' with the same name!

ratspeaker · 06/10/2017 21:31

I really wanted to use Lavender as a name but the thought of the poor wee soul being called Lavvy in the playground put me off

Bluelonerose · 06/10/2017 21:35

When I pg the second time ds1 was 18 months. We said if we had another boy he could pick the middle name. (Already had middle names for a girl)
He was obsessed with tellytubbies and chose Noo Noo Confused

Was sooo happy when I had a girl Grin

Top boys name had ALWAYS been Patrick.

Then I married. And became a fitzpatrick.

Didn't fancy our child having a Derry, Londonderry esque name. Blush

brasty · 06/10/2017 21:40

Austin Morris - but its a car as well. Just think it sounds lovely though.

LilQueenie · 06/10/2017 21:40

Vienna. I love it but it was from the song which I found was about the man not giving a toss about his one night stand. Name lost appeal after that.

Lambzig · 06/10/2017 21:41

Many names were ruined for me by DH doing an impression of me yelling it in a supermarket to a misbehaving child (he must have had a crystal ball).

Witchend · 06/10/2017 21:42

Dh wouldn't let me use Lucy. Because it was the name of my teddy. Sad

Petalflowers · 06/10/2017 21:44

Tony Blair named his son Leo so,didn't use this name (loved Leo since Howard's way). Expected there to be a lot more Leo's around (there isn't).

Sylvia - name of a school bully

Ernest and Leonard - both family names, loved to use them but thought they would be considered old fashioned, then granny/grandad names became fashionable.

I met a mum a few months ago with a Young baby. I asked what the baby was called. The mum said the baby was Imogen, but she wanted to call her Isabella,,but didn't because it's so popular. I remember thinking how sad that the mum had a name regret with such a young baby.

Else - will always have a lion connection for me also
Jemima. - Puddleduck, although I like the name

CraftyMummyof3Tiddlers · 06/10/2017 21:47

Summerisdone yep I Loved Oscar for a boy but the whole thing with Oscar Pistorious put me right off the name too :( but I'm Happy with the name we used instead

Saracen · 06/10/2017 21:49

My first child had a Welsh name which isn't well known in England. We live in England, where most people struggle to get it right.

We considered a similarly tricky name for our second child. But I imagined myself introducing the pair of them and filling people with panic. They'd probably give up and not bother trying to get either child's name right! So we gave her an extremely common English name.

I do sort of feel I've let her down, however. I've always thought anyone with a boring surname, such as my children have, deserves an unusual given name so they won't have exactly the same name as ten thousand other people. I enjoy having a unique name. I should at least have given my second child an original middle name.

MrsMargeSimpson · 06/10/2017 21:50

I liked Isaac, but my maiden name was Hunt and I was unmarried so his ‘name’ until registration would have been awful!!

throatmanship · 06/10/2017 21:51

Our surname starts with 'fitz'. We couldn't have Benjamin as it would have been Benny Fitz (benefits)

Trb17 · 06/10/2017 21:51

My friend works in a school with a
‘Jenny Taylor’

Littlecaf · 06/10/2017 21:57

We could use Lucy (my favourite) as with the surname would be v similar to the name of an actress.

Others suggested Louis or Louie but this with our surname would be totally ridiculous.

goose1964 · 06/10/2017 22:05

We were going to call DAD Angharad but as both our names begin with an A we thought it would be to confusing with mail

timshortfforthalia · 06/10/2017 22:08

I loved Patience, but combined with our surname, sounds really patronizing. Something like Patience Darling.

BikeRunSki · 06/10/2017 22:09

DD is not called Eve after my GM, because DH is called Adam.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 06/10/2017 22:11

Teacher. This makes it difficult.

We are accidentally a household of A L Surnames. If the dc want to pay the bills, they're welcome....
