I love the name Venus but i didnt use it as it rhymes with penis and i thought that kids at school might pick on her for that.

Velvetbee sympathies! I love the name Patrick too, once I was pregnant all I could come up with were those types of names!

lalaloopyhead · 06/10/2017 22:14

i ruled out any names that with surname made a famous persons name, and i also ruled out using a special middle name as combined with my partners surname made a name of a girl I was at school with, so all I can hear was DDfirst name girl at school name when saying her full name - most odd.

There was a Rosie Webster at my dd's school, which I found a strange choice - couldn't work out if parents were big Corrie fans or had never seen it!

Feilin · 06/10/2017 22:14

Ive said this before on threads my name was long and complicated so we opted for short and sweet for DD we considered many like Jodie but ended up with Thea . Thea she is . The only downside I can think of is flea and if thats it thats ok Ill teach her to deal with it. Better than the years of mistakes and namecalling ive had to endure.

JKR123 · 06/10/2017 22:23

I wanted to use Etta for DC2 but we already had a Henry...

CoffeeBreakIn5 · 06/10/2017 22:23

And MrsMargeSimpson too! It's like an affliction!

Skittlesandbeer · 06/10/2017 22:23

I LOVED the name Bianca for dad, and was prepared to put up with the dragged out Ozzie pronunciation that was bound to happen (I'm Italian heritage). Plan had to be changed when my DH pointed out that his Croatian surname, Kovacevic, translates as Blacksmith.

Bianca would have made her White Black(smith).

IndianaMoleWoman · 06/10/2017 22:23

I couldn’t face calling our DD Jessica because I had hyperemesis throughout the pregnancy and all I could hear was the word “sick” in the middle, despite it being DH’s favourite name.

Skittlesandbeer · 06/10/2017 22:24

*dd obviously, not dad.

LexieLulu · 06/10/2017 22:26

I wanted Charlie for a boy, but didn't use it cause my surname rhymes with Chaplin

AJPTaylor · 06/10/2017 22:39

grace for dd3. dds 1 and 2 were teens and pointed out that girls they knew called it were all far from graceful.

Djayla · 06/10/2017 23:37

I liked the name Grace for a daughter, but decided against it as my married surname was Jones. Ended up having sons anyway. Though whilst pregnant, the babay's nickname was Indy (Indiana Jones movies) He has since said he would of preferred the name Indiana. I really liked it but thought it would be ridiculed.

Djayla · 06/10/2017 23:38

meh baby not babay!

thegreylady · 06/10/2017 23:46

We loved Lucy till BIL came up with loose elastic!

TellMeItsNotTrue · 07/10/2017 00:01

Only read a few but had to comment

Anna I read Marlene in his voice when I read your comment!

Sashkin · 07/10/2017 00:23

I spent most of my pregnancy threatening to call DS “Oliver”, after the neighbours cat (which they used to call for late at night - we’d hear them yelling “Ollie! OLLIE!” as we went to bed, like Sybil Fawlty yelling for Basil).

MyGuideJools · 07/10/2017 03:25

I grew up with twins called
Polly and Hester.
I often wondered if the parents named them intentionally or just liked both names and thought sod itGrin

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 07/10/2017 03:48

Any name starting with a V, as they would have had VD as their initials

NiceCuppaTeaAndASitDown · 07/10/2017 03:58

Much as I love Margot, because it's just too close to the word Maggot

SundayNightLights · 07/10/2017 07:04

Oh Indiana my DD is called Jessica. I'd never heard sick in it before. I hope it doesn't stick in my head Confused

mermaidbunny · 07/10/2017 07:21

Ooooh Djyala my son is an Indy as in Jones! It's a great name and we haven't had any stupid comments thus far...although there is still plenty of time!

HeteronormativeHaybales · 07/10/2017 07:50

It's very British to worry this much about rhymes/over-matchiness/associations with names. Germans worry a lot less about it (beyond avoidance of the obvious dreadful names). I think this is partly because registrars have a right and a duty to point out issues to the parents and indeed refuse to register names which might be 'crusl' to the child.

Matchy names are quite common here. Parents at the dc's kindergarten, already having a Henriette, then had a son and called him Henry Confused. And one of my sons goes to school with boy/girl twins called Leon and Leonie.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 07/10/2017 07:51

*'cruel'

Fabulousdahlink · 07/10/2017 08:40

My mum'commented' on how long our childrens names were. Until I pointed out that my full name and maiden name had 20 letters in it......

Fabulousdahlink · 07/10/2017 08:45

I chose Huw( rejected as then hubby worked for a Hugh who I thought was sweet) I chose Rufus ( as we all have red hair) Hubby also rejected this on the grounds at school he would be called' rufus the dufus'
I also wanted to call daughter either zena/xena ( rejected by same dh because'she'd always be at the bottom of the register or list') or Bathsheba ( after Everdine from Hardy's FFTMC)..but hubby thought the short form sounded like a brand of dog food!

xrayyankeezulu · 07/10/2017 09:15

I was suppose to be a Tamara but days before I was due my aunt told DM that everyone would call me Tammy Tampax & put her off - not complaining prefer the name I was given as an alternative.

Unfortunately due to marriage I've ended up with initials CJD 🤣
