I love the name Venus but i didnt use it as it rhymes with penis and i thought that kids at school might pick on her for that.

I loved the name Anouk. Dh said it reminded him of atomic warfare.

I liked Rory for a boy (which I never had) but I live in a country which rolls its rs relentlessly so I think no one would ever be able to stop saying it. Grin

We also had to avoid J names and th names. And when you have to do that, you cannot think of any other names!

Sugarformyhoney · 07/10/2017 10:10

I wanted Verity but st the time there was an X factor contestant with the same name ( who no one would ever remember now)

elQuintoConyo · 07/10/2017 10:12

Wanted to call a future daughter Ruby but with a surname that sounds like Hoover, all i could hear was "goodbye, Ruby Hoover..." a la Rolling Stones.

We wanted a local name but they'd all sound shit in English:
Laia = liar
Ainhoa = i know her
Aiona = i own her

In the end we had a boy Grin it was a toss-up between Agustin and another name, we chose the other namr. Still love Agustin. They don't do middle names here but do double the surname, so 4 names would be a bit extreme. Shame.

We need to get a male animal - Agustin the Gerbil Smile

I think these are all pretty sensible reasons for not using a particular name!

DS was not named Karl, as German DH pointed out it sounds exactly like the German word for bald!

Amiable · 07/10/2017 11:42

I was also supposed to be called a combination of first and second name until my parents realised I would have had initials SAD. They swapped the names so I was ASD... until I got married. My new surname begins with S . Yes indeed, my initials are now ASS! Grin

VinIsGroot · 07/10/2017 11:51

DS washing to be Ruby .... Then a few weeks before he was born the Kaiser Chiefs brought out the song Ruby!!!!
DS2 was going to be Willow ...then few weeks before he was born Mark Owen called his DD it!! Thank God he was a boy!
DD was going to be called Corbin, the Jezza Corbyn came along .... She was a girl ...phew!

olbndansmummy · 07/10/2017 17:23

Was going to call our eldest George, but his initials would have been gob!

SparkyBlue · 07/10/2017 18:16

I wanted Pippa but then Kate and Williams wedding happened I was worried people would think I was influenced by Pippa Middleton.

shoesarefab · 07/10/2017 18:19

@fabulousdahlink DD2 is Bathsheba. DH and I were torn between that and another name that was similar, we ended up tossing a coin in births, deaths and marriages. He was worried that Bathsheba was a bit too "performing arts" and she would never get a job interview at Merrill Lynch 😂

We call her Bash for short, not Sheba. It definitely suits her 🙈

PeapodBurgundy · 07/10/2017 18:24

I liked William for DS, but we were having Robert as a middle name after my late grandfather. My DB is named Robert William so that went out of the window Grin

danceswith · 07/10/2017 18:38

Wanted to call my first 3rd Kerry but with a Bradford accent it just sounded too much like curry 🤣

TinyTickler · 07/10/2017 18:39

I didn't use Spencer as my husband is Mark and I couldn't take a life of Marks and Spencers puns.

danceswith · 07/10/2017 18:39

1ST DD even!

PeapodBurgundy · 07/10/2017 18:47

TinyTickler OH and brother have those names Grin

MacaroonMama · 07/10/2017 19:02

I liked Isaiah for DS1 but my BF said her mom always remarked 'His one eye's higher than the other!' when she heard this name. In a gorgeously broad Black Country accent. DS1 is Noah instead.

DumbledoresPants · 07/10/2017 19:14

We had decided on DS2's first name which started with a J and has Hebrew origins. Our surname starts with W. my husband wanted to give he a middle name that also has Hebrew origins and started with an E. So his initials would have been J.E.W added to the fact he would have had two Hebrew names felt like a bit of a joke name so I said no.

TinyTickler · 07/10/2017 19:16

PeaPod do they get ribbed about it? I still kind of want to use it if number 2 is a boy... number 1 is pink so I didn't have the dilemma in the end. But I love it so much!

SupermarketSally · 07/10/2017 19:17

We love Cecily but can't use it for girl twin because our surname makes it sound like a tongue twister

PotteringAlong · 07/10/2017 19:19

I really wanted Lydia if my baby was a girl. DH said no because "with chlamydia" would follow her round constantly!

pollymere · 07/10/2017 19:19

My dds initials would have spelt SEKS...

PeapodBurgundy · 07/10/2017 19:53

TinyTickler his brother passed away when he was in his early teens ruins a lighthearted thread Blush so not really! He has a close friend named Mark and nobody does if that's any consolation Smile

JLo1979 · 07/10/2017 20:04

My dh wanted Lyndsey, nope our surname is lohan. Ronan was too samey samey. No names that end with an L as people think our surname is Owen then.

My friend wanted ivy for her dd, her mum said ah lovely because you had ivf! That name went bye bye.

A work colleague called her son Noah, lovely until the rest of my colleagues starting saying “do you know a Coleman?, I know a Coleman”.

Last but not least we called our ds1 Donncha (pronounced dun-a-ka). After we told everyone his name my dh picked him up out of his cot and said come here Dunny. Great we called our son a toilet!!!

JennyOnAPlate · 07/10/2017 20:06

I love the name Flora but, you know, butter.

Hohofortherobbers · 07/10/2017 20:32

I liked Scarlet but my dh had a German colleague who has a dd called this and dh could only seem to say the name in a comedy German accent. I kept saying 'no, just Scarlet' and he'd reply 'that's what I said ScarLETTT! ' . Just had to let it go

Tazmum01 · 07/10/2017 20:45

My DDs initials are SIT. Didn't realise how close to SHIT that was until she was around four years old. Unbelievably, no one else has picked up on it YET!!!
