I went out with my friend on Saturday night. Rare for me as I hardly ever go out. We went to a club had a good time then got to her car and she had a parking ticket. She was pissed off and moaning about how it's unfair that she has to pay out and none of us do as none of us drive except her (there was 4 of us out.) we get in the car and her sister suggests that we all pay some of it spilt between us. I said I couldn't as I don't have the money to pay out and it's not my fault she parked where she shouldn't have anyway she went ballistic! Because I refused. And kicked me out of her car at 4am in the middle of the street. Literally stopped the car in the middle of the road and told me to get out. I was miles from home and had to get out and ended up having to call a cab to pick me up. I haven't spoken to her since. Wibu for not contributing?

Then it's entirely her own fault. Asking everyone else to pay is cheeky AF.

arethereanyleftatall · 21/08/2017 21:53

The way you're responding op, suggests you think it's entirely her responsibility to sort any original parking tickets out. Which is really shit.

Letstryagainshallwe · 21/08/2017 21:54

Wasnt* not was

WTAF?

This place baffles me at times! There was a thread before where a driver got a parking fine a d it was unanimous that their car and parking, their fine. Of course the OP shouldn't have to pay part of the bloody fine! Oh and parking fines are about £35/£40 I think, NOT £80 so £20 each was a total piss take on her part!

I swear some people hang around AIBU to make anything into an OPs problem and would argue that the sky is pink for the sake of it.

No OP, you shouldn't have paid, I wouldn't have and if I had been the driver it would never have occured to me to have others pay my fine unless someone had insisted it was ok to park somewhere where it wasn't legal.

pictish · 21/08/2017 21:54

Thank God - a sane person.

RainbowPastel · 21/08/2017 21:55

You sound like a freeloader.

Witchend · 21/08/2017 21:56

£80 are standard tickets round here, going up to £120 if you don't pay within 10 days, £160 if you don't pay within a month.

ticketytock1 · 21/08/2017 21:56

Where I live a parking ticket can be as high as £90, with a discount if paid within so many days.

Ywbu not to contribute

Swbu to chuck you out at 4am, she NEVER should have done that.

Now that you are evens on the asshole scale you could maybe put it behind you and make up? Depends on how good a friend she is and how much you want to keep her as a friend.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 21/08/2017 21:57

I think the OP sounds like a free loader as well.

arethereanyleftatall · 21/08/2017 21:57

Middle of London, I would say a £80 ticket is fairly standard.

McBinkers · 21/08/2017 21:57

I would have offered to split it before she even asked to be honest. She shouldn't have threw you out away from home though.

MatildaTheCat · 21/08/2017 21:58

It's very possible the ticket was for £80 depending on the offence. In our area it's that much with small print saying it's only £40 if you pay in 14 days. It's also quite easy to make a mistake about parking on private land or residents parking in error.

If you are skint you should have said so and offered to pay what you could afford to.

So, in short the fine was probably £40 if paid promptly or £10 each. The amount of your cab fare. And the cost of at least one friendship and chance of nights out.

However, she was wrong to turf you out.

Imamouseduh · 21/08/2017 22:00

Where is eveyone parking that they get a £45 ticket? Tickets outside my house start at £110!

ChevalierTialys · 21/08/2017 22:02

Absolutely disgusting that she put you out of the car at 4am, what kind of person does that?! Anything could have happened to you!

A few years ago there was a case about a girl who tried to get on a bus late at night but was 20p short of the fare so the driver wouldn't let her on. The girl was raped and murdered walking home.

I dont care how pissed off she was about the money, you DO NOT DO THAT! Disgraceful, she is no friend of yours.

Katinkka · 21/08/2017 22:03

I'd have paid but would be peeved. £80 is a large fine though.

ChevalierTialys · 21/08/2017 22:03

Central London is Tier A in parking fines. £80 is the 14 day discount rate.

Atwitsend99 · 21/08/2017 22:04

I think both U in this situation. You should have offered to contribute and she shouldn't have kicked you out of the car at 4am.

MsGameandWatching · 21/08/2017 22:04

Yes you should contribute. It sucks but it's the right thing to do.

5rivers7hills · 21/08/2017 22:04

Unless you said "don't park here" you should have contributed.

If it was an oversight (didn't see the signs, stayed to long) then It's fucking annoying when on drivers bear none of the risk around driving.

Penny4UrThoughts · 21/08/2017 22:05

So £20 would have been roughly (and probably a bit less than) a taxi both ways. Did you pay anything towards petrol?

PoorYorick · 21/08/2017 22:05

The fact you rarely go out is irrelevant.

You should have chipped in, you were benefiting from her driving and the parking. She shouldn't have kicked you out on the streets though.

I assume you were splitting the petrol anyway?

Peanutbutterrules · 21/08/2017 22:06

I would never expect my friends to chip in for a parking fine I incurred. I think it's bonkers. She shouldn't have parked illegally. Unless it was agreed at the time, and everyone was happy with the risk.

Truly shocking she threw you out of the car. The friendship is done. End of.

Armadillostoes · 21/08/2017 22:06

Whilst offering to pay would have been nice, there is no way that the driver was justified in kicking you out of the car at 4am in a strange part of London. That potentially put someone at physical risk, whereas being tight with money did not.

Ceto · 21/08/2017 22:07

Did you pay anything towards her petrol costs?

Slowcookerheaven · 21/08/2017 22:07

Were you drunk? Because if she was sober and you were drunk and slabbering drunk nonsense and she was already pissed off id see how she might turf you out tbh.

You should've paid your share.

Parking ticket here £60. Not central London.
