I went out with my friend on Saturday night. Rare for me as I hardly ever go out. We went to a club had a good time then got to her car and she had a parking ticket. She was pissed off and moaning about how it's unfair that she has to pay out and none of us do as none of us drive except her (there was 4 of us out.) we get in the car and her sister suggests that we all pay some of it spilt between us. I said I couldn't as I don't have the money to pay out and it's not my fault she parked where she shouldn't have anyway she went ballistic! Because I refused. And kicked me out of her car at 4am in the middle of the street. Literally stopped the car in the middle of the road and told me to get out. I was miles from home and had to get out and ended up having to call a cab to pick me up. I haven't spoken to her since. Wibu for not contributing?

"Btw this was Central London"

Like what difference does that make?

To me that makes you even more of a crap friend because 1) parking is really tricky and 2) it's super safe and there are LOADS of cabs.

I'd have had more sympathy for you if you were in the arse end of no where.

MsGameandWatching · 21/08/2017 22:07

Central London? The ticket would be £130, but only £65 if you pay within 14 days. So not such a stretch to round up to £20 taking into account petrol and the PITA of the whole situation.

Squarerouteofsquirrel · 21/08/2017 22:07

Had you contributed anything towards the lift you got to and from the club. How about the ticket to pay for parking near the club did you offer anything at that point?

5rivers7hills · 21/08/2017 22:08

"Strange part of London"

If the taxi was only £10 the Op wasn't far from home! Less than 3 miles is say.

Jayfee · 21/08/2017 22:08

ticket is usually 40 pounds if you pay promptly, eighty for later payement????

Jayfee · 21/08/2017 22:09

sorry apparently gone up now so more!

MsGameandWatching · 21/08/2017 22:10

Depends where you are. Central London would be £130. I should know, I've had about five of them since living here 😡

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 21/08/2017 22:10

YANBU, OP. She's the one driving and she's the one with the responsibility to park correctly.

She failed to park correctly and she shouldn't be thrusting the consequences of her irresponsibility onto the passengers in her car.

pictish · 21/08/2017 22:10

Neither would I Peanut.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 21/08/2017 22:11

The car driver made you get out of the car at 4.00 in the morning, I think that's fucking awful.

ladygracie · 21/08/2017 22:12

Honestly I do not understand mumsnet sometimes. Why the fuck should anyone other than the driver pay the fine? She chose where to park & (I hope) wasn't forced to drive everyone. How horrible to kick you out of the car.
It was a nice offer from her sister to help out with the fine but the rest of you were not obligated to do so.

mirime · 21/08/2017 22:12

5rivers7hills maybe it's just me not being a Londoner, but I'd feel less safe in a city than in the arse end of nowhere.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 21/08/2017 22:12

Oh, and kicking you out of the car in an unfamiliar place in the middle of the night is appalling behaviour for someone whose supposed to be your friend.

Cut contact with her; if she's prepared to put your safety at risk because she doesn't like having to face the consequences of her poor actions, she's no friend at all.

Letstryagainshallwe · 21/08/2017 22:12

Surely being drunk would be even worse to kick someone out?? But no wasn't drunk.

Pointing out it was central london as I'm not sure if that would make a difference to the price. And yes I don't know the area I hardly ever go to central and certainly not that part so yes it was unfamiliar. No way was I walking at 4am dressed up in heels and a dress! I wouldn't be sure how to get home so yeh like I said didn't know the area.

MyLittlePickleBoo · 21/08/2017 22:13

£80 standard here too.

You do realise she not only saves everyone cab fare by ferrying you lot around, but she also INCURS COSTS (petrol, wear and tear) that she COVERS HERSELF. SHE pays for YOU Do you offer her petrol money or just expect her to sub you every time you need a lift?

I agree with PPs, you're a freeloader! If you add up the cost of all those cab fares over the years I'm sure it would add up to more than you were being asked to chip in.

You're a user, not a friend. She's well rid!

Nuttynoo · 21/08/2017 22:13

80 is the minimum fine in London. So yes it's likely she was being honest. Also, London night outs can be ridiculously expensive because of taxis - when you go with her, you save a lot of money. The decent thing to do would have been to split the ticket.

Slowcookerheaven · 21/08/2017 22:13

I would have kicked you out if you'd been slabbering and arguing the toss. It was 4am. Had you really honestly not been drinking at all all evening?

Bluntness100 · 21/08/2017 22:13

She shouldn't have chucked you out but god, how horrid are you to refuse to pay. Who does that? Seriously I'd have been tempted to kick you out too. And I'd have offered to split it right off. Any decent person would.

I wouldn't worry op, you'll be having even less nights out now.

MsGameandWatching · 21/08/2017 22:14

I think "it's her problem" makes you a shit friend to be honest.

Nuttynoo · 21/08/2017 22:14

You were in central London and nowhere near a tube station OP? 4am is when most start.

Also just to point out she saves you £20 return every time you go out. You should say sorry and use some of the money she saves you to bail her out.

CurbsideProphet · 21/08/2017 22:15

She does not sound a very good friend. The driver decides where they will park their car and if they've taken a chance and not parked correctly it's their own look out. Even if I was really cross with a friend I could never leave them alone at 4am. Anything could have happened.

LonginesPrime · 21/08/2017 22:15

To the posters saying the OP was BU not to contribute, if the friend was given a speeding fine, would the passengers still be expected to contribute?

If I were the driver, I'd be pretty pissed off at getting a ticket, but would accept it was my own fault and would be cross with myself.

It's the driver's responsibility to check they're parking somewhere they're allowed to park, in the same way you wouldn't expect all the passengers to check that the driver had applied the handbrake when they all get out of the car.

Letstryagainshallwe · 21/08/2017 22:16

I did drink but wasn't drunk but
I will go back to surely it's worst to kick a drunk female out of a car. Not better! WOW

OP posts:
Bluntness100 · 21/08/2017 22:16

Why the fuck should anyone other than the driver pay the fine

Because she was doing everyone a favour and saving them quite a bit of money by driving them. How can you not know that?Shock

Maybe you can go out with the op and stick it to each other?

Booboobooboo84 · 21/08/2017 22:16

Did you pay her petrol money op? Or offer too?
