I went out with my friend on Saturday night. Rare for me as I hardly ever go out. We went to a club had a good time then got to her car and she had a parking ticket. She was pissed off and moaning about how it's unfair that she has to pay out and none of us do as none of us drive except her (there was 4 of us out.) we get in the car and her sister suggests that we all pay some of it spilt between us. I said I couldn't as I don't have the money to pay out and it's not my fault she parked where she shouldn't have anyway she went ballistic! Because I refused. And kicked me out of her car at 4am in the middle of the street. Literally stopped the car in the middle of the road and told me to get out. I was miles from home and had to get out and ended up having to call a cab to pick me up. I haven't spoken to her since. Wibu for not contributing?

Didn't you have your phone with google maps?

Letstryagainshallwe · 21/08/2017 22:24

I got an uber.

ADishBestEatenCold · 21/08/2017 22:25

"anyway not sure why she was saying everyone needs to pay £20 then. Guessing she was planning on pocketing some"

Not necessarily. In our nearest town the fixed penalty is £60, and I do know that there are (city) areas further afield with charges of £90.

I don't think it was okay of her to dump you alone in the street at 4am, but perhaps it was frustration, last straw stuff (though that still doesn't excuse it). Have you got form for being tight? Not asking that to upset ... only asking because you seemed to think it likely that someone would try to make a profit out of their friends.

Slowcookerheaven · 21/08/2017 22:25

how did you summon the conveyance ?

Booboobooboo84 · 21/08/2017 22:25

Sounds like you were all drunk and hysterical and you were the easiest to get rid of. So probably the most drunk and hysterical. Or maybe you were being a dick about her ticket. If it was my friend I'd say mate I'm sorry I have nothing to give tonight but I'll pay a bit in the week. Because I think someone doing me a favour deserves some kindness back. You'd paid petrol money so she was out of order kicking you out

Letstryagainshallwe · 21/08/2017 22:26

I wasn't walking home at 4am!! Not sure why people are nit picking!! I was mugged once by walking home late at night on my own street.

OP posts:
MsGameandWatching · 21/08/2017 22:26

It would be £16.25, not such a stretch to say £20 each in the heat of the moment.

Slowcookerheaven · 21/08/2017 22:27

So how did you summon the uber? Did you magic it out of the air?

hiphopcat · 21/08/2017 22:27

YWBU to not pay. A taxi would have probably cost you more than a quarter share of a parking ticket!

However, your mate booting you out of the car at 4am was far worse!!! What an utter cow. I would bin her. (After you have given the quarter share of the parking ticket!)

Someone shoving me out of the car at 4am to make my own way home - no matter how angry they were with me - would be something I could never come back from. The friendship would be dead to me.

viques · 21/08/2017 22:27

Well this time it was cheaper for you to get the cab home, but she won't be offering you a lift again so I think those £10 are going to add up. Tough.

buddhasbelly · 21/08/2017 22:27

Thanks pooryorick was quite interested at how far 10 pounds gets you in different parts of the country! missed point of thread

MsGameandWatching · 21/08/2017 22:28

I think there's more to it, for her to kick you out.

HeebieJeebies456 · 21/08/2017 22:28

maybe you should get out more then, op.

yabu for not contributing towards the ticket....you could easily have offered the tenner that you had on you or offered to transfer it to her instead.
She did you a massive favour by being the designated driver and that's the thanks she gets for it!

bbcessex · 21/08/2017 22:29

I got an £85 parking ticket recently in a very surburban area so very likely it was the £80-odd quid she stated..

Letstryagainshallwe · 21/08/2017 22:29

I have a phone obviously. It was
Late at night so I got a cab rather than walk home not sure why that's even being debated. I asked if I was unreasonable for not contributing to a ticket not for getting a cab.

MyLittlePickleBoo · 21/08/2017 22:30

Do bear in mind too that she was only in that situation (the struggle to park and the pressure to find somewhere close) because she was being nice and ferrying you lot around...

Slowcookerheaven · 21/08/2017 22:30

If you had a phone you knew where you were because google maps would tell you.

Unless you were too drunk to realise this.

Letstryagainshallwe · 21/08/2017 22:30

She's quite hot tempered nothing more to it than that.

OP posts:
Letstryagainshallwe · 21/08/2017 22:32

When she first kicked me out I didn't know where I was. Not sure why I have to keep explaining that. Even when I do go to central london buses tend to take different routes to cars. Why am I having to explain that?

OP posts:
LittleBearPad · 21/08/2017 22:33

I'd have preferred a bus or tube at 4am than an uber.

You should have given her some cash.

SunshinenSparkles · 21/08/2017 22:35

I would contribute to fuel and for parking but I would not contribute to any fines incurred by the only legal driver from driving/parking their car illegally. It's the responsibility of the licence holder to know the law and follow it and it's complete madness for them to be placing blame on anyone else.

The only scenario where this would be acceptable is if everyone wanted to stay longer and thus agreed to all pay the fine incurred.

As for ditching your 'friend' by the side of the road (or anywhere for that matter) in the middle of the night....fucking disgusting. Friends are supposed to look out for each other and that alone would have me immediately ending a friendship.

pictish · 21/08/2017 22:35

OP take my advice and leave the thread. Don't stay to justify your existence while this lot pick it apart. Yanbu...honestly. Let this one go.

MotherOfBeagles · 21/08/2017 22:36

Uh nah! You paid petrol costs. Fair enough. She parked illegally and got a ticket? Tough shit that's your responsibility as the driver.

Literally the only way it's your responsibility to pay towards that is if you forced her to park there. In which case I'd be saying she's an idiot for doing it.

Also kicking you out on the streets at 4am was a total dick move on so many levels. Sounds like your much better off without this "friend".

Slowcookerheaven · 21/08/2017 22:36

Mg partner has driven to get me late at night rather than have me get an uber home. He really thinks they are very unsafe.

Slowcookerheaven · 21/08/2017 22:37

You must love literally a mile or two from where you were. Literally if it was a tenner in a taxi.
