It's a way to separate people with their cash because of FOMO. I categorise it along with xmas eve boxes, professional back to school photos and cake smashes as something that's not for me, but good for whoever is taking in cash for this shite.

I am more than happy for people to have as many parties as they want. But when its every few months and its costs guest money all the time, it becomes annoying.

I think some people forget, most people arent that bothered about these things.

Phew!! Glad it's not just me. Friend is pregnant and is saying she wants one but I feel I may have to politely decline. I like them (I've never thrown one but been to friends) I think it's lovely that friends/family can join in on the excitement and can celebrate with the parents.

Whatever happened to finding out at birth? I get that people want to pink/blue stuff though can't stand the idea myself that genders have colours attached, so really grumpy cow here but I don't like to know what I'm getting fior Christmas, and felt the same about the child I was carrying!

I am having a big wedding (lots of family), had a baby shower (surprise for me by my mum and sister) and a big christening (again, large family and DP's family are catholic).

I hope people don't think I am naff.

Yanbu about making a party for it. Very tacky. I see nothing wrong with choosing to share information that you have about your baby though. Making any kind of fuss about it suggests that the parents are basically sexist because they are expecting the position of the new person's gonads to dictate their personality and tastes even before the poor little thing is born.

It's not my cup of tea but I can't say it bothers me much. As with most pregnancy / parenting-related decisions, if they're not hurting anyone I tend to err on the side of live and let live.
