To think this new wave of Gender Reveal a bit crap?

It just seems so impersonal. I think it should be a special moment between just you and your partner if you do find out. The whole popping a balloon in front of your family to screams of delight really makes me cringe. AIBU and a total spoil sport here? 😱

If I were a radiographer I would be so tempted to say the wrong sex. Or perhaps say "It's a xxx ...I think. Maybe."

emilybrontescorset · 23/08/2017 14:32

I'm all for a good shindig but can't get excited about eating a slice of sickly iced cake whilst playing guess the sex if the baby.

Flipfloo78 · 23/08/2017 16:19

I think "gender reveals" are as tacky as hell. Imo it's for people who have nothing better to do with their lives, the type who don't have been parties but weekend long events and expect everyone to pay for it. Yuck.

User1725352718263 · 24/08/2017 23:18

Is there anything British people like apart from sex and alcohol honestly?
Gender reveal: Crap
Baby shower: tacky

Huffletuff · 24/08/2017 23:24

They are tacky though. Nothing to do with being British, just to do with not being ridiculous. Racist much?

Nothing wrong with enjoying sex.

Amd724 · 24/08/2017 23:33

Huffle, I don't think you understand the definition of racism. Didn't realise that Brits were one race....

I'm amused at this thread. To me, I don't care for them, I'm American, but then whenever I see one I don't get heated and worry about society. I just scroll the fuck on. It's how I react to the ridiculous hen dos I see in the UK. I don't care for it, I think they're very tacky, but then I don't care enough about it to get angry or wound up about something that doesn't actually affect me...

User1725352718263 · 25/08/2017 08:33

Amd724

Hen dos and stag dos are ridiculous. A bunch of grown up women and men being drunk perverts grotesc animals. But yeah that's alright let's criticise how ridiculous baby showers and gender reveals are. Hmm

EB123 · 25/08/2017 08:46

The gender reveal/baby shower thing isn't for me. I didn't even have a hen night.

We did find out the gender all three times but it was no big deal,we just told the people interested that it was a boy (all three).

Maireadplastic · 25/08/2017 08:53

Amd- I thought Gender Reveal events came from the States tthough?
They wouldn't have been so named here.

noeffingidea · 25/08/2017 08:53

usernumbers they're all shit IMO. I have seen Americans have stag and hen parties on TV though they're called bachelor/bachelorette parties. Seem to involve alcohol and strippers frequently.

emilybrontescorset · 25/08/2017 15:57

Of course British people like lots of things.
Hen and stag parties are far more fun than sitting around someone's kitchen eating a piece of blue or pink gunk full of sugar, making small talk.
Baby reveal parties are never going to be on the same parr as other parties are they?
Just an excuse to grab more gifts.

Huffletuff · 25/08/2017 16:50

No, I don't understand racism at all. Patronising prat.

Lweji · 25/08/2017 17:17

I'm not British, but don't like either.
And I'm not that keen on alcohol, as well as being single at the moment, so I'm off to slit my wrists. Grin

Lweji · 25/08/2017 17:19

It's a xxx

You realise that you can only establish that through a karyotype analysis? Wink

scarletpopapil · 25/08/2017 23:18

Also crumpets, sitting on the beach in light drizzle, and moaning.

Sayyouwill · 25/08/2017 23:39

Ours as great!

It started with me being in a lot of pain, and then I pushed the baby out my box and looks between their legs!

Strokethefurrywall · 26/08/2017 01:03

Fuckin hell - I'm British and live overseas and I've been to loads of sex reveal "parties" which generally, in our group of friends, means an excuse to have a few drinks and enjoy cake.

Not one of them required gifts, and I loved going and sharing in our friends' happiness. I don't have any preference as to what sex the babies were but I did want to share in their joy.

The joyless, xenophobic, American-hating masses are out in force on this thread... in a world full of Trump, North Korea and Syria how can people seriously get themselves so upset over something that makes other people happy?

And no, I didn't have a party to reveal the sex of my kids, I just don't give a shit if other people do. We need more cake and celebration in the world.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 26/08/2017 08:13

The idea that there is no cake, celebration or joy without gender reveal is...misguided, I feel.

Lweji · 26/08/2017 09:44

Grin You win the thread. Everybody, just go home. Nothing to see here. Go and worry about Trump (yes, there's a thread for that and you're welcome. Strokethefurrywall You too. Not sure if I've seen you there.)
AccrualIntentions · 26/08/2017 22:00

I'm buggered if I need something as bullshit as a "gender reveal" to enjoy a few drinks and cake with my friends. It does not follow that finding these things cringey and naff as fuck = joyless.

user1489675144 · 27/08/2017 22:04

Yes tacky and cringe to some and lovely to others.

Not my cup of tea at all but each to their own.
