About shagging a funeral director?

Online dating and I'm matched with a really nice man. I find him attractive, conversation is good, it's all going well ... until I find out that he is a funeral director Shock
I had to stop then. He touches dead people all day!
I know some people must shag funeral directors (unless they are all consequentially celibate??) but I don't think I could bring myself to go near one with a barge pole! AIBU?

A friend of my ds is one. He's a lovely kind young man, a great dad and partner.
(Inappropriate thought time-when my DM died, one of the team that came out, at three in the morning, suited, booted and smelling of a discreet citrus aftershave, was a VERY attractive young man. Had to mentally slap myself when that popped into my head.)

MumBod · 22/07/2017 11:20

Anyone else really want to shag a Funeral Director thanks to this thread?

ForalltheSaints · 22/07/2017 11:21

Someone I grew up with is one. He is married with three children.

The OP is being unreasonable.

MsPassepartout · 22/07/2017 12:58

I know a funeral director. He's a perfectly ordinary person.

There are jobs that would put me off going out with a man, but those are centred more around jobs that I would consider ethically dubious or that would clash with my beliefs.

lemureyes · 22/07/2017 13:07

I don't see a problem with being with a funeral director, yanbu.

My husband used to empty septic tanks and restaurant grease traps for a living, I got pregnant while he had the job. He always took hygiene seriously and as a result never got ill from it.

To everyone that thinks I am shallow/insensitive immature etc., for what it's worth I wouldn't be able to bring myself to shag a Tory either.

You are perfectly entitled to not have sex with anyone for any reason and also be as shallow as a very shallow puddle.

LittleBooInABox · 22/07/2017 13:20

YABU...

We'll all be dead bodies one day.

ZivaDiva · 22/07/2017 13:31

YABU Funeral directors have some of the best funny stories. Grin

MimsyFluff · 22/07/2017 13:31

When I worked as a carer I was so happy that the older workers washed their bodies before they left I couldn't of handled that so young! It was always the caring carers that volunteered too. So going off that I'd shag him Grin just don't tell DH

I imagine a funeral director would be a fab person to date! They have to deal with people when they're most vulnerable, so they probably have a great deal of empathy and compassion. As someone else mentioned, they probably have some great stories to tell. They'll never be out of work and I imagine after being quite serious all day, they probably like to have a bit of fun when not at work. If I were single, I'd be more than happy to date a funeral director!

6079SmithW · 22/07/2017 14:15

BeeThirtyThree I agree with GoingRogue. You do sound lovely. Despite the thread I do appreciate what an noble profession it is, and that it obviously takes a special kind of person to do it. Flowers

I have been sleeping with a Funeral Director for almost 25 years. I'm even married to him. I can assure you that dead people NEVER cross my mind when we are having sex!! Grin. (Or at any other time, it's just his job)

Terabithia · 22/07/2017 15:54

My other half was an undertaker when I met him online (he's now changed careers). Undertakers/funeral directors have a rare mix of compassion and an ability to remain detached enough to do the job. Also, they'll never be out of a job!

MrsUnderwood · 22/07/2017 16:16

If I was single and met a funeral director I'd probably find that quite an attractive occupation in a man:

  1. It means he has to be sensitive and kind
  2. steady income so not a cocklodger
  3. interesting job
  4. cool car
  5. never ending supply of coffins
Andrewofgg · 24/07/2017 19:24

BoysOfMelody Grin

I once overheard two women in my office - one of them explained that she had had a hysterectomy without an incision, through the opening which nature provides, and just as I was thinking TMI, I wish I was not in earshot the other said Oh yes, and next year the dentists will be extracting teeth through the backside!

TheVanguardSix · 24/07/2017 23:47

Do him a favour and don't waste his time.
You sound so immature OP.

Toadinthehole · 25/07/2017 04:59

I wish I was an undertaker, tbh.

"My old man's an undertaker
He wears a crépey hat
He wears some pin-striped trousers
And I'm Susan Sto Lat"

Toadinthehole · 25/07/2017 05:06

Bugger. It's Sto Helit isn't it?

I give up. Can anyone supply a replacement ending? Or should I say last write?

faithinthesound · 25/07/2017 06:59

You're only being unreasonable if you're shagging while he's actively directing a funeral.

Otherwise, where is the problem? Unless his idea of a hot date is taking you to watch him work. I'm sure he washes his hands before he comes home for the day. I'm sure he showers.

I'm sure that at least he HAS a job, not like some of the chancers I've seen threads about. And a PP is right, he will never be out of work. It might not be popular work, but I'm told it's fairly lucrative.

Don't be discriminatory. What he does doesn't have to have any bearing on you. Or is it that you're just ashamed to tell your mates what your potential boyfriend does for a living?

pigeondujour · 25/07/2017 07:10

I've a male friend who's an undertaker and I do just associate him with dead people to be honest. He is so so interesting though, has some amazing stories to tell.

Paddington68 · 25/07/2017 07:15

Could be worse, he could be an estate agent.
