Vegetable delivery guy calls me to accept delivery for my neighbor

Last week, the delivery guy buzzed me. I went down (three stairs down) to the main door and asked for whom was the delivery. He said, "apartment 6". I told him I'm from apartment 3. He said, "I know, I needed you to open the main door so I could leave this box inside".

I asked him why he didn't ring apartment 3. He said he could not get through.

Today, the guy rang again. He said, "I have a delivery for apartment 6". I told him "this is apartment 3". He said "yes, I just need you to open the main door." I said I was busy and he should ring apartment 6. He rang again several times which I ignored.

Was IBU?

This type of story makes me realise how selfish some people in society are. There are those who give up endless hours to help others, then there are others who cannot be bothered to spend 30 seconds helping out a neighbour.

caffeinestream · 01/07/2017 09:12

I mean, you don't have to help if you don't want to, but I would hope someone would do the same for me if my parcel needed delivering and I was out.

NamechangeNana · 01/07/2017 09:13

YABU

Why wouldn't you help out?

It's called being neighbourly.

BewtySkoolDropowt · 01/07/2017 09:14

I guess you are not being unreasonable if you have no interest in your neighbours helping you out, should you ever need it.

FannyWisdom · 01/07/2017 09:14

Just Buzz him in.
Stop being a cock, it's vegetables.

pinkyredrose · 01/07/2017 09:14

What exactly is the problem? You had time to talk to him on the intercom but not time to open the front door? Failing to see why you're so obstinate unless your neighbours have been awful to you or anything.

barrygetamoveonplease · 01/07/2017 09:15

You can't let randoms into the building. Your neighbour needs to make a better arrangement for deliveries.

YANBU.

This is how we got burgled a couple of years back; one of the neighbours in our block let in a "delivery man" and he broke into several flats. The neighbour didn't see him.

A few insurance companies wouldn't pay out because technically the "lock mechanism wasn't used correctly".

BeyonceZ · 01/07/2017 09:16

It's three stairs down. I was alone in the house cooking with an awake baby.

Usually, the boxes/parcels are left in the front. I guess he didn't want to leave it outside the main door so he wanted me to open it.

JeffVadersMum · 01/07/2017 09:16

How do you know he is the vegetable guy? He could be anyone?

BeyonceZ · 01/07/2017 09:17

Exactly!!

when i lived in a block it was prohibited in my tenancy to just buzz open the main door to anyone who claimed they wanted access to another flat.

THIS.

Did he have vegetables OP?

CheshireChat · 01/07/2017 09:19

Was it really early? Or do you physically have to go and open the door? Not U in those cases, but your neighbour needs to sort something else out regardless.

humblesims · 01/07/2017 09:20

Its not a random though is it? Its just someone delivering veg. He wants to put it in the building so it doesnt get nicked.
There are those who give up endless hours to help others, then there are others who cannot be bothered to spend 30 seconds helping out a neighbour. This sums it up really it does.

nearlytimeforholidays2017 · 01/07/2017 09:20

Yanbu
Your neighbour is being unreasonable for having regular deliveries at times they are going to be out. They should make better arrangements.

AlternativeTentacle · 01/07/2017 09:20

But you know it is the same guy and you know he has vegetables.

So just buzz him in.

fuzzywuzzy · 01/07/2017 09:20

YANBU, it's a security risk so buzzing in everyone and anyone. If there's a robbery or something will you get blamed for letting ransoms in for flatsyou aren't aware of and have not asked for you to buzz people in?

It's also a cheek, whys the delivery man buzzing you? If the people aren't meant take delivery back, presumably they're aware they're scheduled a delivery? What if you buzz delivery guy in and he leaves the veg and someone nicks it, will you get blamed as the delivery guy only knows that you let him in?

Madbum · 01/07/2017 09:21

Strange that there's an intercom but no button to release the door,
It would piss me off too having to go down and open the door for another flat constantly. Have you spoken to number 6?

BeyonceZ · 01/07/2017 09:21

I need to go down three flights of stairs and physically open the main door to let him in. He could leave the box in the hall before the main door.

Last week, he was carrying a brown box. He said those were vegetables. I didn't know what was inside.

Actually there is a button to release the door but I don't use that for people I don't know. Even parcels for me, I go down to get at the main door.

cowgirlsareforever · 01/07/2017 09:24

I bet you anything OP that had the delivery been for you, you would have thought nothing of going down the stairs to let him in. That isn't really the issue is it? The issue is that you couldn't be bothered to do somebody else a small favour.

Shoxfordian · 01/07/2017 09:25

So you don't actually need to go down and let them in but you choose to

Yabu

BeyonceZ · 01/07/2017 09:26

But you know it is the same guy and you know he has vegetables.

Well I don't know if he really had vegetables. He told me the box contained vegetables.

This is my concern too! There are ten apartments in our floor. If it goes missing, the guy will say he left the box to me.

Also, apartment 6 didn't tell me they were expecting a delivery. They also didn't tell me that they got the first delivery.
