To find it a bit odd that my cleaner thinks this?

She was saying today how over-the-top some of her clients are and they expect too much. She said they expect her to do things every week that a normal person would just do once a year.

"Like pull out the fridge and clean under there?" I say, searching.

"This one lady, she wants me to pull out her couch and vacuum and mop under there. Every time!"

Is it just me or is it expected that the floor would be cleaned under the couch every time the floor is cleaned? That's what I did when I had time to clean my own floors.

It's a once a year job here.

Or when I buy a new fridge of couch :blush

MimpiDreams · 02/12/2017 18:30

I clean under my sofa every time I move house.

blueshoes · 02/12/2017 18:48

My sofas and beds are on legs on a hard wood floor. I would expect my cleaner to go low with a vacuum and mop once a week. I assume that is reasonable.

yumyumpoppycat · 02/12/2017 18:58

We have to move our fridge and freezer a couple of times a year at least - they are small non fitted with big gaps for food to slide down so get mucky, also any spills which appear to have been cleared up can end . Our sofas are easy to move and have a big space where all the dust bunnies and forgotten snack bowls gather.

BatteredBreadedOrSouthernFried · 02/12/2017 18:58

I’m a cleaner.

Some people want under the sofa done and some would be mortified if you pulled their sofa out. IME the ones who like it done tend to have really tidy houses anyway and it is a simple task to pull sofa out, hoover, mop and push back.

RumTiTum · 02/12/2017 19:08

I have never cleaned behind a sofa.

All our sofa's have legs though, so I kind of shove the end of the vacuum under there in a half-hearted way occasionally. After years of reading mn threads I have come to the realisation I am a slob have very relaxed standards where cleaning and tidying are concerned.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 02/12/2017 19:12

We had builders who were always complaining about how demanding their previous clients were and how unreasonable this was. They put the onus on us to think .... oh we're not like that.... but in fact what they were really doing was testing our limits and seeing how much they could get away with.. how liberal could we be and how much could they take advantage of that. Having been badly stung I know thing that Anyone who gossips like that about previous employers will gossip about you too.. however reasonable you are.

dangermouse7 · 02/12/2017 19:20

I cannot get my head around people not cleaning and hoovering behind sofas and armchairs, or cleaning behind the fridge or freezer or cooker, ever. I mean, never even pulling them out!

Some peoples houses must stink rotten.

BelleandBeast · 02/12/2017 19:23

I wouldn't expect anybody to clean under my sofa, I can't even move it myself. Same for the fridgefreezer.

Perfectly1mperfect · 02/12/2017 19:31

I pull out sofas every few months and vac under and behind them. All our kitchen appliances are built in so.....never....or when we need a new one ! We do have large freestanding fridge freezer as well though that is easy to wheel out so I probably wheel it out and clean every couple of months.

Every week would definitly be excessive for us.

justdontevenfuckingstart · 02/12/2017 19:32

I only clean behind appliances when they need changing. If I can't see the mess then it isn't there. Same for the sofa, I can't be arsed to pull it out and hoover up dog hair that can't be seen anyway.

Fresta · 02/12/2017 19:35

I clean under my sofas once a year when we move them to fit the christmas tree in.

We have carpet though, dust doesn't migrate under there the same as it does when you have a hard floor.

DaenerysismyQueen · 02/12/2017 19:47

Some people are revolting. I clean behind all kitchen appliances daily and vacuum the loft at least twice a day Grin

Whinesalot · 02/12/2017 19:49

Life is too short to vacuum under sofas every week although I see the need with dust balls on hard floors I suppose.
I have an integral fridge but I don't remember ever pulling out fridges very often If ever

BuggerLumpsAnnoyed · 02/12/2017 19:53

Well my sitting room is carpet and the sofas are low so I only do them once a month. The fridge is integrated so I can't even get below it.

It's just about making your expectations clear

Angie169 · 02/12/2017 20:02

I have two sofas, they weigh a ton, and are only about 3 inches off the floor so only clean under them about once every two months.

BrizzleDrizzle · 02/12/2017 20:05

People probably expect more from a cleaner than they would do themselves if they were cleaning their own house - they are spending the money on a cleaner and they want to get their money's worth.

We have hard floors and everything migrates to under the sofa much much more than when you have a carpet.

gingergenius · 02/12/2017 21:26

@DaenerysismyQueen can you clean my house too please????

GabsAlot · 02/12/2017 21:28

my house must stink then dont pull put the fridge its a doubl massiv one and my oven is fitted in

anotherprosecco · 02/12/2017 22:22

I have never pulled my fridge out to clean under it.......

PolarBearGoingSomewhere · 03/12/2017 18:05

Meh, I don't really do many of the big jobs like mentioned on here. Sofa gets cleaned under by DH every month or two. Fridge gets cleaned under... erm, when we get a new fridge. Our house is perfectly fine for us. We don't have dogs or anything which sheds and luckily no allergies (e dust mites) which would benefit from being so spotless. I'm not too busy but I can't be arsed. If I get a spare couple of hours I'll meet a friend for lunch. Can't see the dirt from the pub Grin

phoenix1973 · 03/12/2017 18:08

Once a year, usually in December.

Esspee · 03/12/2017 18:12

I'm getting a sense of deja vu here. When exactly is this post from?

Esspee · 03/12/2017 18:14

Got it, June 2017!
