To find it a bit odd that my cleaner thinks this?

She was saying today how over-the-top some of her clients are and they expect too much. She said they expect her to do things every week that a normal person would just do once a year.

"Like pull out the fridge and clean under there?" I say, searching.

"This one lady, she wants me to pull out her couch and vacuum and mop under there. Every time!"

Is it just me or is it expected that the floor would be cleaned under the couch every time the floor is cleaned? That's what I did when I had time to clean my own floors.

I've literally never moved my fridge to clean behind it Confused

ObsessedWithTablet · 27/06/2017 12:46

I must admit I'm wondering what people do in their kitchens that means they need to pull the fridge/cooker/whatever out to clean behind it every week or two. Wouldn't it be easier to try not to make such a mess in the first place?

MrsCharlieD · 27/06/2017 12:51

I have a low to the ground big corner sofa on a carpet. It gets pulled out once a year and takes me and my husband to shift it. I wouldn't expect my cleaner to do it tbh.

paxillin · 27/06/2017 13:03

I pull out the fridge and clean underneath EVERY time I buy a new one, without fail.

I must be dam lazy , house gets a blitz once a week. I did spend 4 hours the other day deep cleaning downstairs , even washed down my walls and skirting boards.
Bedding once a week
Up stairs is a no go at the moment as re decorating and dust and crap everywhere so given up.

kmc1111 · 01/07/2017 14:55

Depends a bit on the sofa. I have some that are very, very heavy and only a couple of millimetres off the ground. Those I'd only move every few months, and I wouldn't expect a cleaner to do it unless their was a team of them, because they're too heavy.

Others are high off the ground and/or light, and those I'd run the vacuum under at least once a week and expect a cleaner to do it too.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 06/07/2017 09:41

I've worked as a cleaner and you have to expect to work harder and clean more thoroughly than you necessarily would in your own home.

You're able to devote all your allotted time and attention on the cleaning, and of course you're being paid for it. It's not the same as trying to fit cleaning in at home.

PeapodBurgundy · 02/08/2017 18:43

My lounge furniture gets moved and swept under every day because it needs it. I have a bottomless pit of a toddler who has a snack plate morning and afternoon. I move it every evening before bed to retrieve the toys that have ended up under there in any case, so once it's moved I might just as well sweep up the crisp/cracker/rice cake/raisins from under there while I'm at it. I only mop once a week unless he's had nappy free time and weed/pood on it.

Viviennemary · 24/11/2017 13:39

No I wouldn't expect the sofa to be pulled out each time. But depends on how long the cleaner is working. I think your expectations are on the high side. Cleaning under a sofa every week. Shock

Viviennemary · 02/12/2017 17:14

I wouldn't expect sofas to be pulled out and hovered under more than say once a month. But all depends how long she is meant to be there and how much she's paid. But sofas you can clearly see under on a hard floor well yes probably each time.

Viviennemary · 02/12/2017 17:15

Forgot i'd already answered this. Blush

IsItThursdayYet · 02/12/2017 17:18

I don't think it's over the top to want your cleaner to be thorough.

Very unprofessional to be complaining about it to you, though.

AfterSchoolWorry · 02/12/2017 17:32

Skirting boards? Under rugs? Pulling out the sofa?

Confused

I barely have time to do the basics, I can only dream of having the time to be that thorough!

Twitchingdog · 02/12/2017 17:36

For those of you that what to clean under furniture on hard surfaces that hard to move . Lakeland do these
www.lakeland.co.uk/4700/Flatmate-Long-Flat
My mum used to make me use them when cleaning her flat

SleepFreeZone · 02/12/2017 17:36

That happens about once a month in my house.

gingergenius · 02/12/2017 17:37

Nope that stuff classed as a deep clean.

extinctspecies · 02/12/2017 17:42

My cleaner is the opposite.

Much higher standards than me.

She moves everything to clean behind & under it nearly every week.

Me like maybe once a year.

Birdsgottafly · 02/12/2017 17:43

"I must admit I'm wondering what people do in their kitchens that means they need to pull the fridge/cooker/whatever out to clean behind it every week or two. Wouldn't it be easier to try not to make such a mess in the first place?"

I used to have I do mine regularly when I had a German Shepherd, the hair congregates everywhere. All my dogs have liked swimming and mud.

Also my children would have mates in and stings would get split etc.

I'm very minimal so that I can easily do what some would consider a deep clean, at least weekly.

PricillaQueenOfTheDesert · 02/12/2017 17:54

I pull out furniture once or twice a year, definitely no more than three times.

I’d expect the vacuum to be pushed as far under as it will go for the other 50 weeks.

Schlimbesserung · 02/12/2017 18:10

My cleaner refused to clean my living room at all, because part of it is my office. He isn't my cleaner any more. Now I vacuum under the sofas every day-ish. They are moved to recover lost toys, pens etc about one a fortnight.

cherrycola2004 · 02/12/2017 18:18

I'm a cleaner, not domestic properties though. If I was I'd do under the sofa without being told. At home, one or twice a year...

topcat2014 · 02/12/2017 18:20

My sofa reaches the floor - hey presto - no need to move wayne & waynetta live here

topcat2014 · 02/12/2017 18:20

Fridge is 'fitted' so that's another win.

bridgetreilly · 02/12/2017 18:21

I recently got a new sofa, so the area underneath was cleaned last week. Before that, who can say?
