To find it a bit odd that my cleaner thinks this?

She was saying today how over-the-top some of her clients are and they expect too much. She said they expect her to do things every week that a normal person would just do once a year.

"Like pull out the fridge and clean under there?" I say, searching.

"This one lady, she wants me to pull out her couch and vacuum and mop under there. Every time!"

Is it just me or is it expected that the floor would be cleaned under the couch every time the floor is cleaned? That's what I did when I had time to clean my own floors.

@Laiste great minds, right? Grin

MusicToMyEars800 · 26/06/2017 14:55

My sofa doesn't have a massive gap though, it is pretty much to the floor.

MissHavishamsleftdaffodil · 26/06/2017 14:58

Super it's your choice! Grin I live with a dog, multiple cats and several small light rugs, so hoovering the rugs and lifting them to hoover the carpet underneath matter to me!

haveacupoftea · 26/06/2017 14:59

I hardly ever do it myself, but would expect the cleaner if I had one to do it. What's the point in employing one if they don't do the things you don't have time can't be bothered to do?

drinkingtea · 26/06/2017 15:04

We have a 9 seater corner sofa flush to the walls - even with two people it's hard to move. I honestly have never cleaned under it (ducks and runs from the MN Houseproud gasps of disgust)...

Laiste · 26/06/2017 15:06

Notmypenguin absolutely Grin

XJerseyGirlX · 26/06/2017 15:07

Shit, this thread makes me feel like a dirty cow! Note to self: Clean under the sofa
I have a bit of an out of sight out of mind issue lol

TheAntiBoop · 26/06/2017 15:07

She's letting you know not to expect too much from her!!

She's probably Using the fact you will be far too polite to say you don't agree and that you don't want to be accused of being crazy!!

Laiste · 26/06/2017 15:08

I've got the super bloody heavy low version as well. Can barely get the hoover tool under it, but once a week i get down and try to hoover up a bit of lego dust from under there.

Sundayspilot · 26/06/2017 15:09

My sofas take 2-3 people to move. Cleaning under them is a once a year chore.
I would actually be angry if my cleaner was dragging out the fridge or stove to clean behind them. Our fridge is 6' tall. It needs to be put on skids before moving to avoid damaging the flooring. This is not possible with only one person.

paxillin · 26/06/2017 15:09

I have no idea if my cleaner pulls out the sofa every week, I doubt it. If I find something that has been forgotten or neglected, I just ask her if she could do it this week and she does. She is fabulous and super productive.

Now if someone could tell me how to convince her the pasta drainer lives in the plastic cupboard and the pyrex dishes live with the pots... it is a surprise every time. Couldn't find the pasta drainer for a month once Grin.

Coffeetasteslikeshit · 26/06/2017 15:09

I've never hoovered under my sofa. Don't see the problem!

fishonabicycle · 26/06/2017 15:09

I Hoover under both sofas every week. Don't mop there though - no one walks there so they don't get sort. Just a bit of dust.

AceholeRimmer · 26/06/2017 15:10

We do ours probably once every few months to retrieve toys and give the floor a clean.. it's a huge sofa bed so is a two man job! So I think it depends on couch size and your level of cleanliness. I wouldn't automatically expect it.

SongforSal · 26/06/2017 15:28

Could be worse. I cleaned for a friends company a couple of days each week a few years ago. NEVER AGAIN. I had a few that expected way to much. It was an eye opener! Luckily there was a small handful of very nice and reasonable people I met to!

OneFlewOverTheDodosNest · 26/06/2017 15:28

Our sofa is a full foot off the floor and very lightweight which means that moving it out to vacuum underneath is a 30 second job. Because it's higher off it also means that it needs doing more frequently as more dirt gathers underneath.

We've previously had a low, heavy sofa and probably used to move it twice a year - it would look the same as our current one does after 2 weeks.

You don't know which type of sofa the other customer has, but if your cleaner isn't being thorough in other areas then I'd think it was time to review what you want.

SheSaidHeSaid · 26/06/2017 15:32

YANBU.

It's odd how she's gossiping/moaning about clients to her client too!

TinselTwins · 26/06/2017 15:37

She speaks about you the same way she speaks about them, guarenteed!

I would move a small sofa to clean under it in a routine hoover/mop, a large heavy corner sofa I'ld only move twice a year when aqua-vacing.

But what I'ld do is moot, she surely agrees her individual jobs and client requirements, she's free to turn down jobs!

hibbledobble · 26/06/2017 15:40

Yabu. I agree with the cleaner, but then maybe I'm a slattern.

I think the last time I moved the sofa was when I was looking for something I had lost.

HungerOfThePine · 26/06/2017 15:42

I'd probably do under/behind and beds sofas every other week if they aren't easily accessible.

Hard flooring and high furniture is easier though and I just get on with it.

When taking on clients she should specify what she will and won't do and for me if a client wants me to clean under or behind large furniture or appliances I expect them to move them for me, not putting my back out for no oneGrin.

She also shouldn't complain to you as you are a client also. Just bad manners.

AnniesTurn · 26/06/2017 15:45

I was a cleaner until recently

Most clients did not expect you to pull out sofas and Hoover under them. I specifically asked. One woman looked shocked and said god no!

userres · 26/06/2017 15:49

I'm a cleaner and it depends, one customer as small sofa on wheels so easy to pull out and I hoover under every other week, one lady has a cat that sheads loads of hire so hers is done weekly, it's a big heavy thing but luckily she only had the one, another customer is a very clean, tidy minimalist so her is done about monthly and then everyone else has high up sofas that can easily take the hoover hose

userres · 26/06/2017 15:49

Oh and fridges never unless I'm there doing a deep clean

WinifredAtwellsOtherPiano · 26/06/2017 15:50

I clean under the sofa and armchairs whenever I've lost something - so about once a month but they're really low and heavy.

Redpony1 · 26/06/2017 15:56

People aren't dragging furniture about weekly are they? Surely that's a once or twice a year job?

I agree!! I'm far too busy with life outside of the house to worry about that.
