To realise I've become a horrible snob.

I've always been really down to earth. Working class roots, shop at Aldi, drive a Kia. I've never ever considered myself better than anyone else ever.

But today it happened. Went into Tesco to grab a loaf and saw my friend at the check out. She had 2 multi packs of pot noodle as part of her shopping.
I inwardly judged.
She's a lovely amazing person. But still this horrid inner snob judged.
I know iabu. I need a proper telling off. I'm a cow.

I can't eat pot noodles (vom) but those cheapo packs of ramen noodles? Oh my life. I could, and have in the past eaten two in a sitting. We always have a pack or two hiding, the kids particularly like the shrimp Tom yum or chicken ones.

PersianCatLady · 06/06/2017 20:04

I don't ever judge what people eat, sometimes that may be all they can afford
I have been suffering on and off with really bad nausea and sickness for the past three years.

Earlier this year I had a really bad time when I felt sick and was sick for three weeks solid.

The only thing I could have to eat in all that time were ready salted Pom Bear crisps.

I dread to think how you would have judged me for just buying packets and packets of crisps.

Instasista · 06/06/2017 20:06

But would you have cared persiancatlady??Grin

Instasista · 06/06/2017 20:06

Ps hope you're feeling better

SheRasBra · 06/06/2017 20:07

Lots of older kids are doing Duke of Edinburgh expeditions at this time of year. Maybe it was supplies for that? That's what my DD took for hers.

AperolOnIce · 06/06/2017 20:07

Saddest day of my life was the one I discovered they'd discontinued the Chicken Curry Pot Rice.

I still hanker after it.

SaucyJack · 06/06/2017 20:11

I doubt it's a money thing. Branded Pot Noodles aren't cheap- even when they're on offer. I don't know anyone who eats them for dinner dinner either.

It's just a dirty snack.

HelsinkiLights · 06/06/2017 20:13

Ah pot noodles lush, up there in the foods of gods along with Eton mess, champagne, roast potatoes, tomatoes, strawberries, organic chicken, dairylea, Jaffa cakes & Haribo!

HelsinkiLights · 06/06/2017 20:14

That's what I'd take to a desert island or last meal etc.

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 06/06/2017 20:15

My dh and ds1 have them, they are quick and easy for when they have sports days back to back, when they come back from what every sporting event they have attended they then have there balance evening meal.

Dont see the issue, its no better than any takeaway.

Brittbugs80 · 06/06/2017 20:15

I love Chicken and Mushroom pot noodles. But I have to pick out the sweet corn and not add the soy sauce.

I want a pot noodles now....

PersianCatLady · 06/06/2017 20:20

But would you have cared persiancatlady
I wouldn't have cared what people thought about me buying all the Pom Bear in the shop because all I cared about was feeling better.

LookMoreCloselier · 06/06/2017 20:20

Food snob maybe. I like the chicken and mushroom one, I also like eating in fancy restaurants and everything in between.

Flyinggeese · 06/06/2017 20:21

Anyone remember the ad? m.youtube.com/watch?v=L_6GGDhHzKI

OP do you secretly want one?

EB123 · 06/06/2017 20:24

Honestly it a ridiculous thing to judge on.

I don't like them but buy them for hubby for his night shifts sometimes if I haven't had the chance to do some pasta or something. He usually keeps a couple in his car in case he forgets to take anything else so he has something to eat.

RoseTico · 06/06/2017 20:25

I love the memory of Pot Noodles in the 80s. They're a shadow of their former glory these days - unless you add a load of salt.

EB123 · 06/06/2017 20:27

I do love a cheeky pack of chicken supernoodles with melted cheese though.

Mumchance · 06/06/2017 20:33

An extremely well-born friend of mine, who is technically an Honourable, fuelled her entire horrifically morning-sick pregnancy on beef-flavoured Hula Hoops. She used to get online Sainsbury's deliveries which consisted entirely of six-packs of Hula Hoops, and give anyone who looked twice at checkouts the hairy eyeball.

BeeThirtythree · 06/06/2017 20:36

Pot Noodle ensures judgement
How about that ready made pasta and a sauce? Takes same amount of time and similar concept?

If it's convenient and tasty...brilliant! I don't see how you can be a 'snob' over a pot noodle!

DD1 prefers Green& Blacks white chocolate, DD2 loves Milkybar buttons...a preference thing.

Walkacrossthesand · 06/06/2017 20:38

I look at the fat content of (most) pot noodles and back away. Mug shots every time for me...

SimplyNigella · 06/06/2017 20:40

They were the most coveted item in the tuck shop of my boarding school.

Puffpaw · 06/06/2017 20:43

Must try chicken super noodles with melted cheese...

viques · 06/06/2017 20:47

Maybe she was going to put them in the food bank box.........

TheFirstMrsDV · 06/06/2017 20:49

I love Pot Noodle.
When I eat them at work women of a certain age (ie. same as mine) raise their eyebrows and tsk.
I think its because Pot Noodles were one of the first popular convenience snack thingies.
In a time of 'proper' sit down lunches they were seen as the epitome of laziness.

Now that real junk food is freely available and hardly anyone sits down with meat and two veg at lunch time I think the horror is dreadfully outmoded.

DJBaggySmalls · 06/06/2017 20:49

Pot noodles really aren't that bad on the scale of junk. They can be made with a kettle full of hot water, useful if you are in fuel poverty or going camping.
