I've always been really down to earth. Working class roots, shop at Aldi, drive a Kia. I've never ever considered myself better than anyone else ever.

But today it happened. Went into Tesco to grab a loaf and saw my friend at the check out. She had 2 multi packs of pot noodle as part of her shopping.
I inwardly judged.
She's a lovely amazing person. But still this horrid inner snob judged.
I know iabu. I need a proper telling off. I'm a cow.

Ta dah! Judge away OP I'm off to boil the kettle

To realise I've become a horrible snob.
TrinityTaylor · 06/06/2017 19:48

I sometimes have micro rice at work as we only have a microwave and I'm a bit funny about heating rice up from the night before

WomblingThree · 06/06/2017 19:48

Finally WeakAndUnstable, someone with some taste. I judge anyone who eats the "chicken" and "mushroom" ones. 😉

Seriously though, why is everyone trying to come up with reasons she might be buying them. That's no better than the OPs judging. Is "she wanted them" not a good enough reason? It's none of anyone's fucking business what other people eat.

Laiste · 06/06/2017 19:49

x post bastard

Giddyaunt18 · 06/06/2017 19:49

Haven't eaten one since I was a teenager but are they really that bad? Would it be any different if she had a packet of dried egg noodles and a bottle of soy sauce? I fancy one now!

squoosh · 06/06/2017 19:49

I've never eaten a pot noodle.

But here I am scoffing down cheddar spread (so not even real cheese) on Tuc biscuits so no judgement from me! If it was re-packaged as Korean street food the anti noodlers would be all over them.

DangerousBeanz · 06/06/2017 19:50

Yep three micro rice was crap and I deserve judging for it. And it was overpriced.

Bang on squoosh I think it's all about the era it comes from and the branding.

TheLambShankRedemption · 06/06/2017 19:51

I had a curry PN today for the third time this decade. Took me back to my teens.

YABU

NomenOmen · 06/06/2017 19:52

At my boarding school, until we were in the lower sixth, we didn't have access to a kitchen, only a kettle, so we ate fucktons of Pot Noodles. We always came back each term with our tuck boxes full of them. They were a necessary supplement to the dire school food! Maybe her children are off to boarding school! Wink

Shamefuldodger · 06/06/2017 19:52

I don't really understand the 'food=class' thing.

I'm disabled, jobless, disabled dc, Dh is my carer. Lived in a council estate my whole life.

I think we are technically underclass.

But we all love houmous (it's been a slow day if less than a bucket if it has been eaten) falafels, avocados, home made sour dough and rye bread, everything is cooked from scratch with fresh Aldi ingredients.

And it's not like we are unusual, when dd's fried come round they aren't in awe at the strange posh food, they know exactly what it is because they have it at home 😂

The only time I've been called wanky was when I got really excited at Dh learning how to properly roast our own peppers on the gas hob, and decided to call everyone up to tell them.

LoupGarou · 06/06/2017 19:54

I don't ever judge what people eat, sometimes that may be all they can afford, they might be going through a rough patch financially which you know nothing about and have coupons for pot noodles. Or you know what? Maybe she just wants some bloody pot noodles.

If you have the headspace to judge someone for buying pot noodles you have the headspace to put towards something more productive.

likeababyelephant · 06/06/2017 19:55

3rd class thread I've seen today.

LoupGarou · 06/06/2017 19:55

Sorry, that came out harsher than I intended, the thread about being poor on chat has brought back some memories which are making me a bit more sensitive.

PersianCatLady · 06/06/2017 19:56

It was a wtf are you doing feeding your kids that crap sort of judging
How do you know that she was going to feed them to her kids??

DangerousBeanz · 06/06/2017 19:57

I swear I dont think food = class. I just think pot noodles are shite.
My parents were very working class, left school at 14 and worked in industry a

QueenMortificado · 06/06/2017 19:57

You cannot eat class

Indeed. Can someone pop over to the cringey middle class thread and tell them that eating hummus doesn't make you middle class too.

She should try the Nakd Noodle pots, much better

Instasista · 06/06/2017 19:59

But snobbery is judging someones social standing negatively.
It's not thinking something is shit.

I think X factor is shit. I'm
Not a snob for thinking that Hmm

I survived carrying dd1 with chicken and mushroom pot noodles and lucozade. I certainly didn't run out of noodles for a stir fry the other week and chuck the same dd1s (now 7) chicken and mushroom pot noodle in from the cupboard and discover the rivers households favourite new recipe Blush

squoosh · 06/06/2017 20:02

If you broke it down nutritionally is a pot noodle really that bad? Something like chorizo has more foodie points but it's still just a processed meat. A bit like spam.

Waltermittythesequel · 06/06/2017 20:02

Is it an urban myth that noodles are coated in wax or something?

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 06/06/2017 20:03

OP,

OK, I'll bite: reassure yourself that what she actually needed were the pots themselves (multipack meaning, what, 6s? 12s?), for her kid's/ kids' very involved craft project.

She binned the contents, before then cooking them from scratch a nutritionally-balanced and ethically-sound meal.

There. You can sleep soundly now.
