To hate this heatwave

I don't know why, but ever since I was a kid I hate the hot weather; it has always made me feel, well, ugly and inferior!!! I was always a wee bit on the big side (never massive, although I'm a size 16 just now!). Does anyone hate the heat?

Glad im not alone! My hatred of heat is not helped by a grumpy toddlee

Usershitloadsofnumbers you are lucky to have air con in your office some of us don't and it's unbearable.

Westray · 26/05/2017 16:57

I'm sorry, this is not extreme.

I lived in the tropics, the temperature averaged 39 degrees all year round, even during the rainy season.

accendo · 26/05/2017 16:59

How hot are we talking here?
We had a heatwave in summer it was over 40c for weeks

Westray · 26/05/2017 17:00

Had a great day.

Been to a ( sweaty) body pump class this morning ( no air con), mowed the lawn back and front, cut the hedge, weeded all the paving, watered all my plants, sat and buffed my nails and lay in the sun for an hour.

Lovely day. Just about to pick up DD who has been to the beach all aftenoon.

Ineedagoodusername · 26/05/2017 17:03

Westray it might not be extreme but it's still vile.

Ineedagoodusername · 26/05/2017 17:04

On holiday recently I enjoyed it. But then I didn't have to do a thing other than sit by the pool read my book and supervise children. So that's fine.

SunLoather · 26/05/2017 17:04

It makes me sick too (literally). Apparently it can be something to do with blood pressure if it affects you badly. Having Asperger's doesn't help either though I have no idea why that would be (maybe something to do with internal sensory regulation?)

I get nauseous, furious for no reason, and cry a lot. I'm fine the moment I'm in cool air again, so we bought a small aircon unit for our flat, but that only helps so much. I also drink diarolyte occasionally to help with the endless water which can wash out salts and things if you drink too much (apparently).

I've never understood the sheer venom people throw at those who physically can't cope with hot weather. I'd love to be different, to be one of the sunbathing happy folk but I'm just not. I bet we all would! It feels a bit like hating someone for not being able to walk or something.

And I think this does count as a heatwave - it's 27 degrees here today, 68 humidity; will be again tomorrow, it's only been like this a few days and will go down again in another few. So by very definition it's a "wave of heat" isn't it?

Westray · 26/05/2017 17:05

It's exquisite.

It's so rare to get lovely warm weather, we spend months with cold temperatures, wind, driving rain, grey days, this sunshine is superb.

iamavodkadrinker · 26/05/2017 17:06

We literally get about 10 sunny days a year. I don't understand why winter lovers/dementors always feel the need to pop up and whinge throughout every single one of them.

GeorgiePeachie · 26/05/2017 17:10

Love the heat... Kind of.

A few years ago I was standing in torrential rain and sleet waiting to get on a bus. My jeans were soaked and gritty and chaffed against my chilly skin. my toes felt like ice as did my hands . Rain and wind in my face made my teeth chatter and I could feel my sopping hair whip around my neck and water trickling down my back.

I vowed that I would NEVER again complain about the heat. I say IT IS hot. Yes. It is. But. And I realise I am incredibly privelleged to say this but I can always get a drink of water or run my hands under a cool tap or fan my face. I've never been more miserable than when I am cold.

hello heat wave. Yes I'm sticky and my building has no aircon (or heating for that matter) and the sun might burn me, but I will NOT complain. I've been cold too many times.

UnbornMortificado · 26/05/2017 17:12

I normally love the sun but I'm very pregnant and very fed up this year. Can't wait for this storm.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 26/05/2017 17:13

I loathe despise detest it.

I don't know how anyone can say they enjoy it. Is beyond me

Mammylamb · 26/05/2017 17:15

It's true that we hardly ever get sunshine: but I just find it too much! Anyhoo... glad I'm not alone

SunLoather · 26/05/2017 17:15

Well I don't understand why people like you would even open this thread vodka. Why not just go outside and sunbathe gloriously? People complaining doesn't alter it, and won't shorten the hot weather. Just ignore them and enjoy yourself.

I think it's really selfish to be so rude about it myself. If something made you incredibly ill even for "just" 10 episodes a year (and actually it's usually more than that these days, global warming nor something like it is definitely changing our weather systems), are you honestly saying you'd never want to grumble or find fellow people who felt that way - even on an anonymous forum?

Fiona1984 · 26/05/2017 17:20

Not enjoying it at the moment sat on this bus. It's like a sauna :(
I wish I had a thermometer.
Fortunatley I can get off in 10 minutes.
There's a person a few rows in front wearing jeans, a thick flannel jacket and a chamois deerstalker hat! I can't see his face but I'm guessing he's old, I know some older people have trouble regulating their temperature and will go out in a winter coat in sweltering heat.

Rollonbedtime7pm · 26/05/2017 17:27

I really like when it's around 20 degrees - you can do loads outdoors, be warm enough in short sleeves but not sweating. It's a bit much for me at the moment - not a problem abroad with a swimming pool and aircon but horrible in my carpeted house having to deal with grumpy sweaty children.

ForalltheSaints · 26/05/2017 17:27

I don't mind hot weather itself, except for the awful choice of clothing (or not) people have in the UK. The sights today have been abysmal.

MeganChips · 26/05/2017 17:27

I love it, I become stupidly docile in the sun and become a far nicer person.

mustiwearabra · 26/05/2017 17:30

YANBU

I have a chronic neurological condition that flares up massively with this level of heat and I could honestly sob.

BastardBloodAndSand · 26/05/2017 17:32

31 degrees here. It can piss off so far as I'm concerned.

BarbedBloom · 26/05/2017 17:35

Hate it. I love the winter. Can't stand being too hot and I burn really easily.

MinkowskisButterfly · 26/05/2017 17:36

I used to love the heat as a skinny person care-free person. Now I am overweight (size 18), tired (haven't had an unbroken nights sleep for 3 years thanks dd2), I am currently nursing a sore throat and mouth ulcers as I am run down and quite frankly want it to be winter. Pfft!

Moan over!

PleaseGoToSleepPlease · 26/05/2017 17:40

Me. I hate the heat. Don't mind hot beach type holidays provided I'm always less than 30 foot from a swimming pool at all times. Unless it's dark :-)

In the U.K. when I have to go about my everyday life, I hate it. 18c max would be perfect for me.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 26/05/2017 17:41

We went to no4 son's school assembly this morning. The little year 2 class were having "pyjama day" and at least eight of them were in fluffy onesies! I nearly melted just looking at them.
