To hate this heatwave

I don't know why, but ever since I was a kid I hate the hot weather; it has always made me feel, well, ugly and inferior!!! I was always a wee bit on the big side (never massive, although I'm a size 16 just now!). Does anyone hate the heat?

Me too! Not as much as I hate it when you happen to be abroad on holiday during it and people at home gleefully point out that you needn't have gone abroad. As if I'd rather be sitting in my little stuffy office at work with no air conditioning, than lying on a beach in a naice resort Grin

SassynSane · 26/05/2017 20:08

Buuuutttt.....when the sun shines it's the perfect excuse for Pimms o'⏰ Grin

DrCoconut · 26/05/2017 20:10

We get so little sun in this country. The majority of the year is cold grey drizzle. I'm looking forward to summer because DS2 gets a bit of respite from his asthma that is exacerbated by cold and damp. He thrives in summer and we get a break from hospital admissions and misery. So it's a YABU from me.

Chattymummyhere · 26/05/2017 20:15

Yabu.

We get wet/dark/grey/cold days most of the time in the U.K. An actual warm sunny day should be embraced you get your crap weather most of the year us sun lovers only get a few days a year to actually be happy and enjoy the weather.

bogofeternalstench · 26/05/2017 20:21

And us proper-cold-weather lovers get maybe 2 or 3 days. I'm only not too hot when it's literally cold enough to snow. I think we had one day like that this winter gone. So in this weather I melt.

BuzzKillington · 26/05/2017 20:26

OMG - I love it. Evenings in the garden, pub garden meet ups with mates, glorious warmth all day long, bedroom windows as wide as they'll go - all night long - heaven.

I am in the SE and it hasn't been too hot here - just lovely.

libbyliz83 · 26/05/2017 20:28

I hate it, it's horrible.

I'm bigger than I should be so its not nice for me. I look rediculous in maxi dresses or long skirts. Boobs are too large to wear strappy tops/sleeveless. Look stupid in shorts with my pure white fat legs sticking out. I get sweaty, grumpy, red in the face and frizzy hair. I burn easily, never tan and get the most awful prickly heat on any exposed skin. Hate it.

Mammylamb · 26/05/2017 20:28

Ok, I suppose it is only for one or two days., you heat lovers enjoy it and I'll stay home with an ice cream

Lizzy, are you me?

I;m in Scotland- It's still 25 degrees outside right now.

TroysMammy · 26/05/2017 20:32

I'm just a bit suspicious about June, July and August. Will we have summer weather in the summer or will it be a washout and this spring will be the hottest since records began?

dementedma · 26/05/2017 20:36

Very warm in our upstairs flat but I don't care. Bed linen has been line dried and smells gorgeous and I can hear the blackbirds singing their hearts out in the sunshine. In Central Scotland so it will be light late into the night. Wish we had more of this weather.

Westray · 26/05/2017 20:40

Troysmummy- yes, and as much as I love hot days, there is always so much unpredicability and panic.

Need to have a BBQ, shave legs, fake tan, buy a new paddling pool for the kids, get to the beach, shopping for sesame buns, they sell out, it's all a mad panic.

cardibach · 26/05/2017 20:44

Loads of people saying they do t like the heat because they are fat. This is strange to me because I am overweight (size20/22) and I love it. I wear loose linen trousers (sometimes cropped, sometimes long) and cotton tops with short sleeves or very fine long sleeved tops. It's great.
I love the heat and as PPs have said it's not like we get lots of it. You cold/wet/grey weather lovers get the bulk of the year. I get that heat can be difficult for some people due to colouring or health issues, but I really can't understand why you would like wind and drizzle.

Westray · 26/05/2017 20:47

dementedma- yes, it doesn't get dark here until an hour after sunset in London.

dementedma · 26/05/2017 20:53

Yeah, I'm always surprised how early it gets dark in London. In high summer there is a period when it actually doesn't really get dark at all up here.

whirlycurly · 26/05/2017 20:56

I love it but we're lucky to live a few miles from several stunning beaches so we can pop down there after work. I said to dp tonight that I wish it could permanently be this temperature. I love being outside.

Sallystyle · 26/05/2017 20:56

It's not even that hot. I want more sun.

I love the summer but YANBU to feel differently.

I hate winter with a passion. It makes me feel ill and I have been desperate for some better weather. Shame it doesn't last long enough.

The80sweregreat · 26/05/2017 20:59

Lidl were out of burgers by 4.
Bit of sun and it goes mad!

ShoesHaveSouls · 26/05/2017 21:04

It's divine, I said I was MNetting on the garden earlier - DH was off work today, we had lunch & dinner in the garden, have been out for a run in the glorious sun, and are still out now. More of this weather please! I should have been born in Italy. ho um.

Titsywoo · 26/05/2017 21:39

I love it. I do get prepared though. Suncream, light floaty clothes, lots of cold water all day, sit in the shade (I can only sit in the direct sun for 30 mins at a time then I get hot and bothered), keep the curtains shut all day then open windows in the evening to get some air in, fans in all the bedrooms. I do tend to take it easy on hot days but I'm lucky that I work part time and wasn't at work today. I would hate the weather if I was working in town and commuting.

I'm not enjoying today though because I have a horrid headache :(

Hulababy · 26/05/2017 21:45

I love this weather.
Its warm and sunny and everything feels just that bit nicer. My joints hurt far less and I feel like doing more in the evenings.

But then, although it is warm, I don't see this as being incredibly hot. It isn't like going to southern Europe or south US (such as Florida) where the weather is much hotter and more humid.

We went to Vegas for a couple of days as part of our holiday last summer. It was 37 degrees at 11 o'clock at night!! Now that was hot!! - and unbearable - we only went as it was £1000 cheaper to fly in there than LA!

PickAChew · 26/05/2017 21:45

We've had a pleasant-ish evening stroll in the park - after we found one that was open! Struggled with the uphill bits, mind. One thing this heat does is raise my heartrate, so walking uphill becomes far more tiring than usual. Even now, sitting in my armchair after a big drink of cold water and a cool-ish shower to calm the PLE itch, my heartrate is 10 higher than it was while chilling in the evening on Monday - gone up from 60 to 70. I carried a few things upstairs after being in our poorly insulated south facing kitchen, yesterday afternoon and felt ridiculously tired from the exertion - it had gone up to 108.

I have HMS, possible EDS and the vaso-motor effects of the heat are the thing I find the most unpleasant because it forces me not to be nearly as active as I would like.

It makes DS1 grumpier than usual, too.

Whisperingwinds · 26/05/2017 21:51

Hate it - ❤️ The sun but not the heat gives me headaches and makes me super sluggish :( but I know it won't last

Stilllivinginazoo · 26/05/2017 22:04
