To hate this heatwave

I don't know why, but ever since I was a kid I hate the hot weather; it has always made me feel, well, ugly and inferior!!! I was always a wee bit on the big side (never massive, although I'm a size 16 just now!). Does anyone hate the heat?

I have seen a youth in joggers and a hoodie today! Why just why

And who would wear jeans today? Mental

lilyborderterrier · 26/05/2017 13:34

I'm struggling too it's too hot for me, my dog and my daughter, thankfully my usually freezing house is a godsend with its wooden floors and drafts.
I'm 6 months pregnant and everything is sweaty, rubbing and sore, I feel like a beached whale and am knackered from not sleeping. Don't get me wrong I like the warmth and the sunshine but it's just a bit too hot for me .

Somerville · 26/05/2017 13:34

I'm a pregnant, sweaty mess and totally fucked off not just the heat, but DH's delight at it. I'm starting to feel stabby.
He just brought me a pack of lollies to cheer me up... it's going to take a lot more than that.

I have a horrible cold, so I hate it more than ever! Grin even more sweaty and sickly. I wish it was raining!

LilaBard · 26/05/2017 13:38

YANBU I can't function at anything hotter than about 19 degrees my bloody eyeballs are sweating, feet swollen, hair a frizzy mess, makeup melting, stuck in an unairconditoned heat trap of a room with a twat of a boss who loves it. AIBU to maybe strangle him??
I am pale and Irish and not cut out for this weather BlushBlushBlush

Puddington · 26/05/2017 13:39

Today it's very sunny and warm here BUT with a refreshing breeze and what a difference that makes! It's actually pleasant today. My only major complaint about the hot weather is that it makes it very difficult to sleep at nights and I always feel a bit grimy, lol.

Hotheadwheresthecoldbath · 26/05/2017 13:40

I've been working, home late so have only spotted the sun from the occasional window.Would love the opportunity to suffer the sunshine!

seafoodeatit · 26/05/2017 13:40

YANBU, hot weather needs to be confined to the weekends! Heavily pregnant and hot weather is a rubbish mix, I feel like I need 10+ showers a day.

DJBaggySmalls · 26/05/2017 13:41

I've always wondered how do people cope with things like working in a chip shop? I cant even wait in one for a bag of chips. I just keel over.

MissBax · 26/05/2017 13:41

I normally love it but at 6 months pregnant with a dissertation to write it's grinding my gears!
Maybe if I was on a beach as not living in a city I'd appreciate it more...

Maryhadalittlelambstew · 26/05/2017 13:43

I hate it! I was in london on wednesday and the tube was full of hot, sweaty, pink faced people apart from this one guy who must have been the devil or something as he was sat in a full on suit reading a book without a hair out of place and look relaxed as if he were enjoying a cool breeze on a park bench as he read his book. T'was unnatural looking.

I'm fat and stroppy after an incredibly sticky, humid and restless night.

dudsville · 26/05/2017 13:44

Aw, everyone in my small town lights up and mills around with ice creams, smiling. I love the effect on people. And three or 4 baskets of laundry are practically dry, ALREADY! I just had a nap next to an open door listening to the breeze and the birds chirping. I have a bottle of wine in the fridge for tonight. To each their own. Fwiw, I also like rain and prefer getting dressed in winter.

Fliptophead · 26/05/2017 13:46

Yabu.

I'm fat and loving the first bit of heat we've had for a year! Grin🌴🏖⛱

StillSmallVoice · 26/05/2017 13:46

This isn't heat!! It's lovely. There is nothing as perfect as an English summer day, and we have one today.

amammabear · 26/05/2017 13:48

I hate it. I'm heat intolerant so I physically can't cope with the heat, it does all sorts of horrific things to me. I also hate the way drivers and pedestrians seem to have lost all ability to use their brains over the last few days- whereas the car is my sanctuary right now because of the air con.

What I can't understand though, is why people think it's ok to be nasty to those of us that are struggling? They have no idea what it's like. I get annoyed at people that are never happy with the weather no matter what it'sa doing, but for people like me that just struggle with one type, it's really not fair to have a go at us about it.

farangatang · 26/05/2017 13:49

I now live abroad and am heading back to the UK for the 'Summer'.

Please tell me the temperature which constitutes a 'heatwave' so I can decide which coat to pack!!

Redpony1 · 26/05/2017 13:49

I hate it too!

I have too much to do everyday, being hot makes me not want to do any of it. Utter nightmare, my horses dont want to work in it, i dont want to work in it, running in it is super difficult. i just hate it. At least my office is cool.

Being hot is only ok if you have nothing to do, like when you are on holiday....

Benedikte2 · 26/05/2017 13:54

I once read that the time of year one is born has a bearing on how well one copes with the cold or heat. I was born in the winter and don't like extreme heat -- love the sun as long as not burning hot but hate humidity.
My DD was born in very hot weather and isn't bothered by the heat at all.
Weight does have a bearing as my discomfort in hot weather has increased now I'm heavier and I'm sure taking steroids has aggravated it.
I come from an area of dry heat and I found that preferrable to the humidity of the U.K. -- in fact I was surprised by it because I'd always associated humidity with tropical climates.

CrouchingTigerHiddenVeg · 26/05/2017 13:54

YANBU I hate the hot weather. I wonder if I am descended from Vikings as I've always preferred colder weather. I do always feel quite fat and ugly in the summer.

MusicToMyEars800 · 26/05/2017 13:55

I love it, but... I have put on weight so not as comfortable wearing nice summery clothes, I have very little summer clothes, no sandals etc and am too skint to buy any, so at this time in my life I m not enjoying as much as I'd like, also I live in a flat so can't even relax in a garden.

AcrossthePond55 · 26/05/2017 13:55

Love heat, absolutely HATE humidity. It routinely gets to the upper 90s - 100 f in summer where I live but it's very dry. It's gorgeous.

Same thing with cold. I love 'dry' cold and have spent considerable time in below 20 f at Yellowstone and the Sierras and enjoyed it immensely. But I HATE moist, drizzly damp cold that chills you to the bone.

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 26/05/2017 13:55

Yes it's fine if all you have to do is potter about the house,
But train with no a/c, hot packed tube, office with no a/c (temp indoors 28 degrees and rising)...it's no fun at all.
I can't tolerate the heat well in London. On holiday I'm fine. But here I have the added problem of having to find summer work clothes that fit after putting in weight since last year. Then it's sweaty thighs rubbing together (lovely) versus wearing my reliable black cotton tights which look ridiculous in summer.

For those who are loving it, I'm very happy for you! To everyone else, you have my deepest sympathy!
