To hate this heatwave

Mammylamb · 26/05/2017 13:08

I don't know why, but ever since I was a kid I hate the hot weather; it has always made me feel, well, ugly and inferior!!! I was always a wee bit on the big side (never massive, although I'm a size 16 just now!). Does anyone hate the heat?

Kursk · 26/05/2017 13:55

I don't mind it too much unless we are doing physical work. Logging trees fro firewood in a heatwave isn't all that much fun

MimiSunshine · 26/05/2017 13:57

It's looking like rain from Saturday onwards so just enjoy / grin and bare it for a day as it'll soon be miserable again

MyHouseToday · 26/05/2017 13:59

Heat 'Wave'? Really? It's been over 20-odd degrees Celsius for a couple of days... Never mind, here comes the bank holiday, temperatures are bound to tumble. And BTW Vikings hail from Nordic countries that tend to have just as sunny and warm if not better/hotter summers than the British isles.

Judydreamsofhorses · 26/05/2017 14:00

I love the heat, except while I'm at work. (Currently supervising an exam, and all the students look like they might pass out.) I think it's back to cold/rainy here for the weekend anyway.

Floggingmolly · 26/05/2017 14:00

It's gruesome. I actually feel faint sometimes walking about in strong heat, don't know why. Horrible.

EdmundCleverClogs · 26/05/2017 14:00

Hate it, it makes me ill at the best of times - 7 weeks pregnant, nauseous and having to run around a toddler makes it 100% worse. Plus my face catches the sun very easily, it looks brown due to all the freckles but is actually burning. I'm actually hiding indoors today, my living room stays wonderfully cool in hot weather.

The worst thing is the warm/hot bedroom at night. I can't sleep unless the room is cold, it's horrible. I'd be quite happy to move as north as possible! It's only British heat that's horrible, it's always too muggy to enjoy.

ShoesHaveSouls · 26/05/2017 14:03

I love it! I hate the cold - and I have to put up with that far more than you have to put up with heat, so YABU Grin

There's a lovely breeze today, I'm MNetting in the garden. It's glorious.

gluteustothemaximus · 26/05/2017 14:04

About 27 degrees here. I can't cope. I have had a migraine for 2 days, not too bad today, but always on the edge of another episode.

Baby DS2 is not sleeping. He is screaming all night, too hot, can't cope. And now he is super grumpy because not sleeping.

It's either crap and cold, or super boiling hot!

Just want a nice 19-20 degrees, sunny and perfect that would be for me!!

Sparklingbrook · 26/05/2017 14:06

I was going to get the patio set out and put the cushions on the chairs and the parasol up, but I CBA. There's thunder storms forecast for the weekend.

Ineedagoodusername · 26/05/2017 14:07

Yup I hate it. Keep being told I'm miserable. My office has no air con and my car has no air con. It's just vile.

flapjackfairy · 26/05/2017 14:10

Oh i hate the hot weather. I much prefer winter . I find that i am just hot and bothered all the time and nobody sleeps properly due to the heat. And even with blackout blinds i wake at 4.30 as soon as there is the slightest glimmer of daylight as do the kids so as the summer wears on i get increasingly exhausted. Oh roll on the dark nights and mornings and the return of jeans ,jumpers and boots.

caffeinestream · 26/05/2017 14:10

It's glorious!

But the UK doesn't seem to dress for hot weather. Seen lots of people in tight-fitting tops and shorts so there's no chance of cooling their skin down whatsoever. Or people in denim - even denim shorts are uncomfortable when it's warm but people insist on wearing them for some unknown reason.

CressidaTheHeathen · 26/05/2017 14:15

YAB (super) U Grin

I've been sat on my sun lounger since 8am and loving every minute! Made myself a nice chicken salad to eat al fresco too. And tonight we're going to a BBQ at a friends house.

I love this weather. Unlike the poor dog who likes the idea of sun but only for 30 seconds until it becomes too hot and he goes back to the shade again Grin

Westray · 26/05/2017 14:15

Sorry but I am loving every second of it.

We get so little nice weather, that I have suspended normal activities and out gardening.

And i also love it because I work hard in the gym all year round and mostly wearing woolies, so great to get my skimpy shorts on and feel good about all my hard work at the gym.

MaudLyn · 26/05/2017 14:18

I hate it. I'm sweaty and covered in heat rash.

I'm honestly praying for death right now

Sparklingbrook · 26/05/2017 14:19

I have to go out shortly. I hope to not see too many topless men. Bleurgh.

caffeinestream · 26/05/2017 14:20

@sparklingbrook it's grim isn't it? Put it away!

Sparklingbrook · 26/05/2017 14:23

Men driving their white vans sat three in a row with no tops on. Ewww.

toffee1000 · 26/05/2017 14:23

I like summer. We don't really get that many hot days, as opposed to winter which drags on for months and months and is just miserable. I don't particularly understand those who love winter, but there we go.
My birthday is in summer, plus this year I have finally finished my degree- left full time education forever- and am fully planning to chill out for a while before starting the job hunt...

caffeinestream · 26/05/2017 14:24

I can't imagine why you'd want to be topless with a seatbelt on - wouldn't it be red hot?!

TwatteryFlowers · 26/05/2017 14:25

Insects
Sweaty pits, belly button and c section overhang
burnt skin
Can't sleep properly
Hungry but cba to cook anything substantial so end up living on sandwiches which don't fill me up
Thirsty so try to drink plenty of water which then means I need a million wees
Hot, tired and fed up children

Yanbu. I hate the heat. I also hate being told that I should be out and enjoying it because it's so lovely outside.

kaitlinktm · 26/05/2017 14:26

Yes - people don't seem very tolerant of people who don't like hot sun and heat in general. I burn so easily but used to be told by my ex that I was "miserable" for not baking myself in the sun like he used to do - he had a darker skin and tanned easily - good for him selfish git

Runny · 26/05/2017 14:26

It's not that hot though, is it? It's about 25 here, with a nice breeze as well. To me a Heatwave is in the 30's.

Oh and I'm very fair skinned with vitiligo and can't sit in for long periods, but im fine under a tree or umbrella.

SurlyValentine · 26/05/2017 14:28

YABU! It's wondrous and I love it. No such thing as too hot for me. Reckon I was a reptile in a past life.

Whoever mentioned 1976, my DM was pregnant throughout that summer and really suffered. The baby went 13 days over their due date as well. I will neither confirm nor deny that it was me Grin

Thunderstorms forecast for here tomorrow, so I'm going to enjoy every second of it while it lasts!

kaitlinktm · 26/05/2017 14:28

Haha - meant to add that he used to be nonchalant about sun cream use because he tanned so easily, but then he went bald and treated his head in the same cavalier way - wouldn't be told when I asked him to put sun cream on his head and said he knew better. He looked a right tit with a peeling head. Welcome to my world. Grin
