To hate this heatwave

I don't know why, but ever since I was a kid I hate the hot weather; it has always made me feel, well, ugly and inferior!!! I was always a wee bit on the big side (never massive, although I'm a size 16 just now!). Does anyone hate the heat?

I admit I'm struggling. Yesterday at work in an old Victorian house was OK (it makes up for the winters, when the drafts are less welcome).

Ironically I've lived in the tropics, with daily temperatures higher than this (not much higher as I lived a mile above sea level), but then it was the same every day, and my body did (eventually) adjust. It's the sudden rise in temperature that has really done it for me.

Crunchymum · 26/05/2017 14:28

I haven't had a lunch break in 3 days (prefer to stay in the lovely air con)

I am fat though and its horrible.

Elendon · 26/05/2017 14:30

It will be cold and rainy by the end of next week, with the kids holed up in the house and the heating on.

YABVU.

glitterglitters · 26/05/2017 14:32

I used to love the heat but as a parent I worry like hell, can't just shove off down the beach or lido on a whim and am restricted to only eating ice-cream once a day whilst my child is awake. So no. Yadnbu

Ineedagoodusername · 26/05/2017 14:34

Those who aren't sleeping get an eye mask. Changed my life!

Elendon · 26/05/2017 14:34

When at work pre children, we used to always celebrate the first hot day in London. Working in London during a heatwave was a nightmare.

I do understand those who are overweight and also post menopausal with young children under 10.

Teutonic · 26/05/2017 14:34

I love it. The sunnier and hotter, the better.
Currently Sat in my garden with a cold beer and my feet in a large bowl of cool water. Bliss.
The only time I hate it is when I can't lounge around in it due to work.

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 26/05/2017 14:40

I love summer, the food, the pool, meeting up with friends, beach, everything about it.

Katedotness1963 · 26/05/2017 14:43

I hate the hot weather. I've never got used to it. I'm currently sitting by the fan trying not to let any part of my body touch any other part. I also resent apparently being the only person who ever looks hot, red and sweaty!

justwhiisitwhosvotingtory · 26/05/2017 14:44

YANBU! Two days in and I'm already sick to death of sun cream. DS started to look a bit pink at 9 am after 20 mins in the garden. So we are stuck inside watching CBeebies wondering how best to go and collect DD from school! I can't seem to find a way of persuading an 18 month old to stay on the shade.

glitterglitters · 26/05/2017 14:47

Oh also, Dh does not do well in the heat and usually ends up very ill/headache/keeling over. Even if I'm like "yayyyy sunshine" I end up being nursemaid to his very pasty self.

Doodlebug5 · 26/05/2017 14:47

I'm boxing up our house... moving tomorrow Fucking hate the heat

juneau · 26/05/2017 14:47

YABU I LOVE, LOVE LOVE hot weather. When I no longer have to be in England for most of the year for my kids I'm going to move somewhere where the sun shines nearly every day of the year. I hate winter. I hate rain. I REALLY hate grey skies - they make me feel glum and depressed. Blue skies and sunshine are heaven.

dementedma · 26/05/2017 14:53

in Scotland so have only had two days of this but its fab.
Forecast is rain tomorrow so we can go back to moaning about that as usual.

spiderlight · 26/05/2017 14:53

I absolutely loathe it. I get migraines from the bright sun and the heat; I get migraines from the smell of sun cream; I burn to a crisp instantly without sun cream; I have no nice summer clothes; I have a miserable elderly dog who doesn't do well in it at all; I have a ginger child. Hate it hate it hate it. Roll on October.

dementedma · 26/05/2017 14:56

dd2 is currently in the Gambia. 42 degrees yesterday!!

Whistleblower0 · 26/05/2017 14:59

Loving it. This is not a heatwave though. Only about 27 degrees here. Heading off soon for the weekendSmile

PickAChew · 26/05/2017 15:00

I've been out into town (first child free excursion for 2 weeks - DH is working from home because I've been stuck in with poorly kids all this time and it's half term, next week) and I'm utterly lathered. I found a shady spot to eat some lunch, but had to sit on a railing instead of a bench.

It all goes tits up tomorrow afternoon, anyhow - we've had a weather warning for thunderstorms.

caffeinestream · 26/05/2017 15:06

Yep, storms forecast here too - making the most of it today!

harderandharder2breathe · 26/05/2017 15:09

Yanbu I hate it but then I'm properly fat and it's just miserable

weegiemum · 26/05/2017 15:10

I'm enjoying it - we don't get this much heat in Glasgow that often!

I have a disability which is much worse in the cold, so my pain and mobility are much better in warm weather - hooray.

that said, I'm sitting inside right now!

CherryMintVanilla · 26/05/2017 15:13

I've been a very uncomfortable fatty all week Sad

I'm dying to see some black clouds roll in.

Craiconwithit · 26/05/2017 15:15

Send some of it my way please?
It's about 14 degrees, thick mist and raining cats and dogs. Just got soaked fetching DS from primary school.

usershitloadofnumbers · 26/05/2017 15:17

my kids and I love it. I don't understand the attraction for grey and depressing sky, damp and mouldy houses.

It's hardly a heat wave, It's just a bit warm! It would help if we had shutters, but keep the curtains down in the bedrooms when the sun start shining on them, and that's enough to keep the room cool. I still sleep with my duvet and had to close the windows last night as I was getting too cold.

Just put a hat on, wear sandals and drink water, it's really not that bad. Not many people have to work outside in the sun. I was heavily pregnant during a so-called heat wave. I just spent a lot of time with my feet in a bucket to cool me down, but it has never been that hot in this country.

It's only (mildly) uncomfortable when you have to seat in the car which has been left in the sun for hours. I do feel sorry for pets left in cars to be fair, even "in the shade". The only issue is fighting to keep the air con at the minimum in the office, because there's always one who insists on working in a freezer, but then moan that it's too hot outside.

CoughingForWeeks · 26/05/2017 15:23

YANBU. I hate it too - there's no air so I can't breathe, and my commute is miserable because I spend two hours a day on sweltering buses full of people who don't appear to use deodorant. Plus I have pale skin and end up with sunburn/prickly heat if I go out in the sun for more than a few minutes.
