To hate this heatwave

I don't know why, but ever since I was a kid I hate the hot weather; it has always made me feel, well, ugly and inferior!!! I was always a wee bit on the big side (never massive, although I'm a size 16 just now!). Does anyone hate the heat?

YUBVU. Love, love, love the sun. Love waking up and seeing the blue sky and knowing it is going to hot. Hate the fact that most of the year it is bloody freezing.

PurpleDragon76 · 26/05/2017 17:43

I'm with ya! Hate is with a passion. I am overweight and it depresses the crap out of me when the sun suddenly dictates less clothing. Even when I was slim I hated it, feel like a turkey in an oven. I never understood the urge to lie in it for hours, literally browning yourself off and ageing yourself

Ineedagoodusername · 26/05/2017 17:44

A nice spring day would be great. Blue skies. Nice breeze. About 19 degrees.

user1474439326 · 26/05/2017 17:48

Same! So much pressure to be outside having a great time and have less clothes on! Vile x

OrangeFluff · 26/05/2017 17:48

I have changed jobs this last month, and I'm now working from home, so the heat has been fine (just had windows open and cotton clothes) but before this I was a chef for years...

Imagine wearing full chef whites, apron, hat and enclosed shoes. Working right next to 2 huge ovens at 250 degrees, 12 gas hobs, an industrial sized overhead grill, an industrial sized chargrill, 4 huge deep fat fryers, a 2 meter wide hot cupboard to keep plates warm and huge heatlamps to keep food warm whilst seving up.

Now imagine that with no air-con! My entire body from head to toe would be sweating. Summers really were awful. So glad to have swapped jobs!

Sunny days are great if you just get to relax and enjoy it.

CherryMintVanilla · 26/05/2017 17:59

I lived in the tropics, the temperature averaged 39 degrees all year round, even during the rainy season.

But in constantly hot countries there tends to be air con everywhere indoors doesn't there? When I visited a cousin in L.A all the residential homes we visited seemed to be fully air conditioned. My little house bakes as soon as the weather warms up.

CherryMintVanilla · 26/05/2017 18:00

On the plus side though, my aloe vera plants and cactii have been out sunbathing all week and look very perky as a result!

ToastDemon · 26/05/2017 18:05

Cherry Only in the wealthy ones!

I'm really enjoying the weather but I sympathise with those that don't. I feel the cold really badly and it makes me miserable so it's a rare treat to feel warm enough.

Daffodils07 · 26/05/2017 18:06

Love the sun/heat just not at night, 30 + in my house at night.
Its awful I cant sleep my baby cant sleep, and even when it gets cooler my house retains the heat so will take ages to be cooler again.

Westray · 26/05/2017 18:22

Not where I lived. Rural Thailand and Indonesia. Electricity supplies were sporadic and robust enough only to support lighting.

usershitloadofnumbers · 26/05/2017 18:39

hottest temperature recorded in my bedroom today is 23 degrees C.. (South East). "Heat Wave" is all relative Grin

Westray · 26/05/2017 18:48

Cherry- LA is a world away from a tropical developing country.

Elendon · 26/05/2017 18:51

I can't even begin to imagine the sub tropical climate that is the south west when it heats up to this level. You absolutely need air conditioning and this only contributes to global warming because of the extra use of energy that is fossil fuel.

It's hot here in the North West of England but not as hot as in places like certain parts of India where over 20 people so far have died of heatstroke.

OrangeFluff · 26/05/2017 19:04

Well i know it is definitely hot here in the West Midlands, because I just went to eat numerous a couple chocolate fingers out of the pack left on the table, and they have melted into one big lump.

Absolute nightmare! Grin

TheGoodWife16 · 26/05/2017 19:05

I once read that the time of year one is born has a bearing on how well one copes with the cold or heat. I was born in the winter and don't like extreme heat -- love the sun as long as not burning hot but hate humidity.
My DD was born in very hot weather and isn't bothered by the heat at all.

I was born in June, suffer severe hay fever between May and August and have numerous health issues that mean hot weather, for me, is dangerous - I've always cursed my parents for their appalling family planning when I've inherited the family's hay fever, allergies, eczema and asthma!

I am surrounded by fans, cool flannels and am not a happy bunny!

SassynSane · 26/05/2017 19:11

Love the heat and sunshine but owing to large windows feel like am sitting in a greenhouse right now....but for some unfathomable reason I am craving apple crumble and custard...on the hottest day thus year ffs! Confused

Westray · 26/05/2017 19:14

SassynSane maybe you are pregnant?

SassynSane · 26/05/2017 19:21

West I would love to be but as am currently single then sadly not....that said, I do have PMT right now Hmm

Pigface1 · 26/05/2017 19:24

Soo funny how different people are. I adore the summer, love this weather despite the sticky commute and the sleepless nights - my only regret is how much of it I miss by working!! I can get quite depressed in winter, especially in February and March when I haven't seen daylight for months.

FlouncingInTheRain · 26/05/2017 19:29

I'm a summer baby too who doesn't like heat. Wish it was a bit warmer around me though. I'm sat under a fleece and duvet on the sofa with a summer cold. I know that I should be sweltering but I can't get warm this evening.

BrexitSucks · 26/05/2017 19:38

I love the heat (now). Hated heat when I was young so nothing to do with birthdate.

You hate-the-heat people get the weather you like 11.5 months a year. You can suck this up for 3 weeks a yr

MargotLovedTom1 · 26/05/2017 19:43

The heat makes the inside of my nostrils feel really swollen and I can't breathe properly through my nose, and I feel a bit lightheaded. Wondering if it's actually a hay fever thing and if anyone else gets the same thing?

MoonDuke · 26/05/2017 19:45

31 degrees here (not U.K.). We've a 4 day holiday weekend so yesterday and today we went to the beach. It's a 4 hour round trip but worth it.

Unfortunately DH and I got sunburnt yesterday so we're suffering today. We made sure the D.C. were well covered and creamed but were a bit lax with ourselves.

I love it when it's 24 ish. 30 is a bit too hot though a sea breeze made it bearable.

This time last year we had severe floods... I prefer the sun!

WetPaint4 · 26/05/2017 19:45

I hate how quickly it turns my chocolate to mush Angry

It's also unfortunate that my car A/C doesn't seem to work properly but I don't mind the heat really. It's nice to stroll in.

ProfPlumInTheLibrary · 26/05/2017 19:47

I was not made for this kind of weather. I can't cope with. But annoyingly I struggle with the cold too. I'd like a nice lukewarm day.
