Do people really think no black British or immigrants voted Brexit?

Just that really. Laughing at some of the comments about Brexit being a racist vote from people who don't like 'brown people'.

I wonder how many of these people commenting live in predominantly black areas and are remotely aware of how many non-white people voted for Brexit. Lots of naive Mumsnetters.

Have to agree OP. My DH works with over 30 people, and a dozen of them were not born in this country. They are Filipino, Ghanaian, Polish, Spanish, Indian - and all have been here more ten 10 years. Some are married to Brits, and most of them voted for Brexit. It's hilarious that everyone who voted to remain, assumes that the 'leave' voters are all nasty little middle aged white people. Wrong. Grin

user1493759849 · 09/05/2017 10:17

all have been here more than ten years! not sure what happened there!

Dawndonnaagain · 09/05/2017 10:18

No, we're aware that some turkeys voted for christmas. Ce la vie.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 09/05/2017 10:19

I know some non-white people voted Brexit. My Asian friend's family all voted Brexit because they felt if UK left EU they would need more immigrants from India.

I also know lots of white people who voted Brexit. I know several who voted because of "the Muslims" and several who voted because of the Poles. Some of the rhetoric around Brexit is racist.

I'm not sure of your point. Who on earth said that no black British or immigrants voted Brexit?

anonymice · 09/05/2017 10:19

no. I never thought that. Confused

soapboxqueen · 09/05/2017 10:21

Some UKIP voters, voted to remain. People are odd.

PaintingByNumbers · 09/05/2017 10:21

I'm surprised the Poles and Spaniards had bothered getting citizenship already and so were able to vote. Quite a small minority bother(ed). I dont actually know any that had until this last year (and its costing them a fortune)
It wouldnt surprise me that a lot of immigrants from outside the EU would vote Brexit. A much higher chance of their family members being able to follow them if we needed to import labour from outside the EU.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 09/05/2017 10:21

who on earth said that no black British or immigrants voted Brexit?

I have lurked on many many threads and i dont remember seeing this either

Birdsgottaf1y · 09/05/2017 10:21

The comment was stupid.

But any race can be racist, so it's the right sentiment, in some cases, just worded badly.

Blowingthroughthejasmineinmymi · 09/05/2017 10:21

I agree op, in fact many minorities in the UK voted Brexit because of direct impact on jobs, schools and doctors. We all have to use these services no matter what colour we are.

Anyway, look at the number of people who voted brexit whose jobs depended on trade with EU. People dont vote in their own interests sometimes. Hence the Tories.

Mrdarcyfanclub · 09/05/2017 10:24

My Australian gardener voted brexit because of immigration (!). Then said it wouldn't bother him anyway because he's got an Irish passport, so wouldn't be affected. Angry.

PaintingByNumbers · 09/05/2017 10:24

Bit like Farage, who says he will emigrate if it all goes tits up?

DJBaggySmalls · 09/05/2017 10:25

I've never seen it said. I wonder if OP has mistaken the outrage over Farages's immigration poster and taken it personally?

GraceGrape · 09/05/2017 10:25

Like PP said, some Asian people voted for Brexit because they want more immigration from outside the EU. This puts them on the same side of the vote as those people who want no immigration from anywhere. They may have voted the same way over Brexit, but for opposing reasons. It does not mean no racist people voted Brexit. I was told by a gleeful woman on the day after the vote how pleased she was that leave won, because we have to stop Muslims coming over here, murdering people. I doubt the people voting to increase non-EU immigration would agree with her.

Gallavich · 09/05/2017 10:25

Lots of working class people vote Tory
Lots of immigrants vote UKIP
Lots of women and immigrants voted trump
Even black people have apparently voted BNP

My ex who is an immigrant was in favour of brexit. Thankfully he wasn't entitled to vote because his view was uninformed other than by anger and resentment at the 'wrong kind' of immigrants (workshy, scamming benefits) who he sees as taking the piss out of the UK and giving immigrants a bad name.

streetface · 09/05/2017 10:26

Yes I posted in response to a specific comment on here that says "Brexiteers are just people that don't like brown people"

Stupid comment.

The UKIP candidate in our local councils elections is Aisan.

user1493022461 · 09/05/2017 10:28

just because a lot of leave voters aren't racist doesn't mean that a lot of leave voters aren't racist.
Your logic is shocking.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 09/05/2017 10:29

Fair enough street and you cant argue with stupid

histinyhandsarefrozen · 09/05/2017 10:29

That's quite different from what you wrote in your op.

Someone commented that most remainers were all foreign or married to foreigners. I didn't think that was a typical leaver view though.

streetface · 09/05/2017 10:29

just because a lot of leave voters aren't racist doesn't mean that a lot of leave voters aren't racist.
Your logic is shocking.

Your understanding of the post is shocking more like.

streetface · 09/05/2017 10:32

There was no mention of 'most'. Just that 'A' (as in singular) is a vote from someone that 'hates brown people'
