Cheese on toast AIBU

My method: grill on. Bread under. Slice cheese while one side browns. When side is brown, remove and flip over. Add cheese to non-brown side. Back under grill until cheese is bubbling. Eat.

DH's method: bread in toaster. Remove when browned. BUTTER one side Shock add cheese to buttered side. Grill cheese side. Eat.

I think the toaster part and buttering is completely unnecessary. AIBU?

You're right, OP. The other way is madness! Grin

zukiecat · 20/02/2017 12:34

PurpleDaisies

I hate melted cheese, on anything, I don't do dairy, so no cheese, butter, milk, cream, creamy or milky puddings, or yoghurt, or anything else dairy!

Horrible, Horrible Stuff 😝

flowerpower22 · 20/02/2017 12:36

Toast bread add cheese grill no butter needed

Bear2014 · 20/02/2017 12:56

You're both wrong. The bread should be toasted on both sides before the cheese is added, no butter. Whether it's initially toasted on both sides in toaster or grill doesn't matter to me but I use grill.

hmcAsWas · 20/02/2017 12:59

I am with you dh on this one

seafoodeatit · 20/02/2017 13:01

You're right, your DH is wrong!

bagpusss · 20/02/2017 13:26

I'm reminded of this Yum yum.

BoopTheSnoot · 20/02/2017 13:38

I do it the same way as your DH, but without the butter.

Buttered cheese on toast is just madness.

Permanentlyexhausted · 20/02/2017 14:06

Your DH is spot on.

But you must add freshly ground black pepper and a splash of Worcester sauce before grilling.

Redpony1 · 20/02/2017 14:09

Your CH is crazy Grin

I do it exactly the same as you OP

The untoasted side does not go soggy our way

Redpony1 · 20/02/2017 14:09

DH*

WhingyNinja · 20/02/2017 14:45

My method is ever so slightly different and involves butter because everything is better with butter!

Put bread in grill and toast one side
Add butter to untoasted side and then a mountain of grated cheese
Back under grill until cheese is bubbling
Shove into face

(Lea and perrins or ketchup on the side are optional.)

hackmum · 20/02/2017 14:52

You are right and your DH is wrong.

kel1234 · 20/02/2017 15:54

I think I'll have some once lo is in bed tonight. Cheese on toast with a cup of tea. I can't wait now

Highmaintenancefemalestuff · 20/02/2017 16:09

I do it same as you. Dh toasts 2 slices, butters, cheese and sauce in middle - not what I call cheese on toast, thats a bloody cheese sandwich just with toast instead of bread!

BeMorePanda · 20/02/2017 17:04

You are correct OP - absolutely.

I've still not recovered from the shock of ordering "cheese on toast" in a cafe in London many many years ago, when I first arrived in UK, only to be served thin white bread, severely toasted, buttered with sliced COLD fecking cheese in the middle.

Oh the trauma of it - Never ordered it again in UK. Grin

BeMorePanda · 20/02/2017 17:05

I am a butter fiend, butters #1 fan, but would never have butter with cheese on toast.

BeMorePanda · 20/02/2017 17:08

I also like this way if I am feeling fancy:

Grate cheese, add extra bits like chopped spring onion, parsley, chilli etc, add a egg and mix - add to bread (toasted on one side) and grill.

skincarejunkie · 20/02/2017 17:33

Grill one side, butter the not toasted side & top with sliced cheese. Preferably, cheap soap-like cheese. At least 3 slices of bread. And cut into melty, wondrous triangles.

emma6776 · 20/02/2017 17:43

I'm with your DH but I don't butter and I do add a splash of milk (makes the cheese go really lovely and crispy!)

Yuck to the cheese on untoasted side - isn't it soggy Shock

Roversandrhodes · 20/02/2017 17:44

You're way is correct imo! god knows what your husband is doing ,never heard of anyone making it like that before

HunterHearstHelmsley · 20/02/2017 17:52

Lightly toast both sides. Add grated cheese. Two slices obv, add Worcestershire sauce to one. Grill. Add ketchup to the one that isn't Worcestershire sauced. Eat.

lubeybooby · 20/02/2017 17:54

this is the best way - also the most calorific

make a cheese sandwich with lots of butter

butter the outsides of it too both sides

fry til golden approx 1 min each side

absolute heaven!

BaggypantsCrimplesnitch · 20/02/2017 17:54

YA all BU. If you have bread, cheese and butter, you make a fried cheese sandwich. About a million calories per bite, but ooohhhhhh sooo goooood... Grin

BaggypantsCrimplesnitch · 20/02/2017 17:56

Crossposted, lubeybooby - how uncanny was that?! Confused
