Cheese on toast AIBU

ItsThatBeverleyMacca · 19/02/2017 17:27

My method: grill on. Bread under. Slice cheese while one side browns. When side is brown, remove and flip over. Add cheese to non-brown side. Back under grill until cheese is bubbling. Eat.

DH's method: bread in toaster. Remove when browned. BUTTER one side Shock add cheese to buttered side. Grill cheese side. Eat.

I think the toaster part and buttering is completely unnecessary. AIBU?

Lightly toast both sides.
Tomato ketchup or marmite spread on one side.
Grated cheese and grill till bubbly and just turning brown.

Sunnyshores · 19/02/2017 20:21

toasted both sides, no butter, cheese on top, grill - add balsamic vinegar

TheMadGardener · 19/02/2017 20:23

I do it the same way as your DH, only add some mustard under the cheese.

Notso · 19/02/2017 20:24

Bread in toaster, both sides toasted,
Cheese on,
Under grill.

Maybe mustard or marmite if not black pepper.

Katy07 · 19/02/2017 20:26

Toaster, no butter, share bit of cheese with dog while grill does its thing...

tinglyfing · 19/02/2017 20:30

How you do it is correct op.
Apart from the no butter part.
You must butter the untoasted side before you put the cheese on.
And sliced cheese. Not grated.

Charley50 · 19/02/2017 20:36

I'd do it more your way but maybe very lightly toast the other side and put thin apple slices under the cheese. Yummy.

My DP rubs garlic on the toast and pimps it up with red onion, mayo, and mustard. Yum.

bagpackbagpack · 19/02/2017 20:37

Well I sign up for cheese posties...

Actual thing where every week we get a box with two slices of bread, some amazing fillings, a toaster bag (where you pop the toasty in and then insert into your toaster, also good for cooking fish fingers for a hungry toddler) and a PACK OF BUTTER!

so even the experts proclaim you need butter on the inside...

bagpackbagpack · 19/02/2017 20:38

Clicky link for posties, honestly not on any commission!

WanderLustingLane · 19/02/2017 20:41

I do it exactly the way you said op.
My DP makes horrendous cheese on toast. Dunno what on earth he does but it's more like a soggy cold cheese sandwich.

trixymalixy · 19/02/2017 20:43

You're right OP.

TaliDiNozzo · 19/02/2017 20:54

Your DH is right. Sorry OP. Your way sounds horribly dry. And the cheese should be grated.

jcne · 19/02/2017 21:03

I do toast first although not sure why I don't just maximise the grill being on now I think about it Hmm both sides though.

I butter everything.

Redglitter · 19/02/2017 21:03

so even the experts proclaim you need butter on the inside...

You're meant to put the butter on the outside though not the inside

Dahlietta · 19/02/2017 21:41

Toast. Add cheese and grill. Then butter round the bits where the cheese dkesnt go to the edge of the bread.

This is the correct way to make cheese and toast. There's no need for butter under the cheese, but butter on the edges stops them burning and allows time for the cheese to melt properly and bubble.

greenworm · 19/02/2017 21:44

I do it yourself DHs way. Don't always add butter, depends on my mood. But definitely need both sides toasted before cheese goes on.

mysteriouscurle · 19/02/2017 21:45

Mr Macca is clearly wrong. Your cheese on toast is obviously perfect as you are making it the right way Grin

Birdsbeesandtrees · 19/02/2017 21:46

Who doesn't butter it ?!??

SequinsOnEverything · 19/02/2017 21:48

I do it in the toaster first, but don't butter it.

MusicToMyEars800 · 19/02/2017 21:51

if I can be bothered I do it your way but when I am being impatient and lazy I do it you DH's way Grin I always add butter and grate my cheese... wonder off to the kitchen for cheese on toast now

Whosthebestbabainalltheworld · 19/02/2017 21:53

Two slices of bread together in the one toaster slot, toast 'em, then ploughmans and grated cheese on the untoasted side, under the grill....

Am I the only person does the 2 slice in the toaster trick?

changingnameforthispost · 19/02/2017 21:54

You are right, so right, and guess what I'm having tomorrow?
With a dash of Lea and Perkins too

AnotherUsedName13 · 19/02/2017 21:58

Your DH is definitely correct.
