Cheese on toast AIBU

My method: grill on. Bread under. Slice cheese while one side browns. When side is brown, remove and flip over. Add cheese to non-brown side. Back under grill until cheese is bubbling. Eat.

DH's method: bread in toaster. Remove when browned. BUTTER one side Shock add cheese to buttered side. Grill cheese side. Eat.

I think the toaster part and buttering is completely unnecessary. AIBU?

I want some now! Your method is correct, but I add butter.

MyOtherNameIsTaken · 19/02/2017 17:35

I like both ways, tbh. :)

justdontevenfuckingstart · 19/02/2017 17:36

It's cheese on toast. Toast doesn't have a soggy untoasted side.

Izzy24 · 19/02/2017 17:36

Toast both sides.

No butter.

Cheese on one side then put in oven till melty.

Shodan · 19/02/2017 17:37

No no no.

Your way is right, OP. Anything else is just madness.

Purplepicnic · 19/02/2017 17:37

But redglitter your toast is not toasted on the non-cheese side?

BettyOBarley · 19/02/2017 17:37

I agree with your DH on this one - minus the butter. I've tried your way but find it too soggy with cheese on an untoasted side.

diddl · 19/02/2017 17:37

All four of us as the same as your husband.

Girlwhowearsglasses · 19/02/2017 17:38

I had someone helping me when DTs were tiny babies and DC1 was 2. She asked what to cook him for lunch: "oh he'll eat cheese on toast ' I said. She gave him exactly that: cheese. On toast.... Grin

His little face was a picture

Kai1977 · 19/02/2017 17:39

Agree with you OP. If you put cheese on the untoasted side, it stays fairly moist (so no need for butter) and stops the edges getting burnt because it's the one and only time of toasting that side.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 19/02/2017 17:39

Toast one side & then slightly toast other side before adding cheese-if you fully toast the 2nd side before adding the cheese then the edges get burnt while the cheese melts. Definitely no butter though, that's not nice.
Really want cheese on toast now...

Doilooklikeatourist · 19/02/2017 17:40

I do it your way ( the correct way )
DH does it the most ridiculous way possible
Toast bread
Melt cheese on plate
Add melted cheese to toast
WTF ?

alltouchedout · 19/02/2017 17:42

You are right.
Your dh is dangerously insane.

ItsThatBeverleyMacca · 19/02/2017 17:43

A real mixed bag! Grin I don't find adding cheese to the untoasted side makes it soggy, by the time it's all grilled and bubbling there's no sogginess. I do love butter but find it unnecessary when gooey toasted cheese is in the mix! I sometimes add a splash of Worcester sauce as well.

I do hate the burned bits of toast round the crusts though from the grill, I can never ever seem to avoid those.

PossumInAPearTree · 19/02/2017 17:46

Toast it. Butter one side, add cheese and Hendersons sauce....none of this Lea and Perrin rubbish. Grill to melt cheese.

ButtonMooooon · 19/02/2017 17:46

Erm I may get ousted from MN for this confession but I toast my bread in the toaster, add L&P and then microwave it to melt the cheese I just eat it Blush

Redglitter · 19/02/2017 17:46

But redglitter your toast is not toasted on the non-cheese side?

Exactly. It doesn't need to be. It's not in the least soggy.

That's how my dad always made it and his cheese on toast was the best Smile

bmarw · 19/02/2017 17:47

no, no, you're all wrong! beans on toast is the way to go.

Wink
PossumInAPearTree · 19/02/2017 17:47

Yeah, sometimes often I microwave it after toasting but didn't want to admit to that!

PidgeyfinderGeneral · 19/02/2017 17:48

I do it the same way as you, OP.

Megatherium · 19/02/2017 17:49

I go for a mix. Our toaster always toasts one side better than the other anyway, so I toast the bread in there so one side is done whilst the other is at least crisp. I think if you don't do that, the non-toasted side is definitely too soggy. Then I apply butter and cheese and shove it under the grill.

hoddtastic · 19/02/2017 17:49

your DH is right, you can put HP under it too (or sliced tomatoes, or both) before toasting the second side,

CocoLoco87 · 19/02/2017 17:50

Tomato sauce / puree on bread, sprinkle basil on top, then cheese, then under the grill.

eurochick · 19/02/2017 17:50

No no no.

Toast bread lightly in both sides.

Add grated cheese, Worcestershire sauce and black pepper. Shove back under grill until bubbling.

No butter. No soggy bread. Just perfect.

Scottishchick39 · 19/02/2017 17:50

I'm make it the same way as your DH but my DH does it your way.
