To not want to leave DD aged 4 alone in a hotel room.

Going away this weekend, DH's parents are coming and have very generously paid for me and DH to go out for a meal, they said they'd watch DD in the hotel we are all staying in so we could have some time alone. Lovely.
However they've recently announced that they are going to settle DD in our room, call their room from our room and go back to their room and listen out for dd through the phone.
This doesn't sit right with me because surely hotel staff etc could access our room, what if they don't hear dd?
I'm trying to work out if I'm being precious here or if other people agree. It is making me feel a bit uneasy. They don't want to have to sit in the room with her as they'd need to be quiet so they didn't wake her... what the verdict mumsnet?

I wouldn't be happy with that at all.

Compromise might be to see if the hotel can do connecting rooms? Then they can go next door and keep the connecting door ajar so they can listen out for her?

They did mention this originally which I was more than happy about and I gave them our booking details etc so they could arrange this. I assume this isn't possible as they've completely ditched that idea and asked about this. I know they'd have done the connecting rooms if they could of.

Sometimes you can hire babysitters through the hotel, might that be an option?

If they can't do connecting rooms then they need to sit quietly in your room with your DD. Or let her stay up late given it's a special occasion. But I'd just say a flat no to the leaving her alone.

Whenever we stop anywhere we accept that the children won't sleep. I can understand your parents not being too keen on the idea of sitting in silence in the semi darkness.

Can you go out earlier so you can do bed time?

Twitter because they want to enjoy their evening and not have to be quiet with the TV etc. They don't want to wake dd. Personally would rather dd just had a late night than this. I'm sure she would sleep anyway but fil often makes everything too exciting and dd won't settle with him around

I think you're being a little precious. But then she is your kid and you get to be precious about her.

To me it's no different to her being in her bedroom upstairs while you/them/babysitter is downstairs with a baby monitor.

Long as they're in close rooms, your doors and windows are locked and DD is asleep I think it's acceptable.

No - what if she got up and went and turned a scolding tap on before they got there or what if there was a fire. Either in room or interconnecting or no thank you.

absolutely not.

If there is a fire alarm and the hotel is being evacuated, they wont' be able to go to your child's room. I would much rather cancel my own evening than leaving my child alone in a room. If they prefer enjoying their evening, then let them. It's awful.

Bahh I think is different because in our house we lock the door and we know who's got keys- people we trust. We can't say the same for a hotel room.
It's not easy to sneak into a house and take a child with other people their but is a lot easier in a huge hotel, full of strangers.

No, l would not be happy at all, your daughter could be very scared if she wakes, and l would not leave a 4 year old along in a hotel room...

No way and I think if you allowed this you would worry and not enjoy your evening.
