To potentially get our postman fired

DP is a camera geek. On the weekend he bought a camera trap for catching wildlife in the garden. He wanted to test it out so set it up by the front door so he could test it by the kids going in and out. It's been there since Sunday.

So this evening he had a look at the footage with DD(5). There's us, there's the cat, there's the postman. Oh look, there's the postman having a piss against our garden wall Shock.

Our door is round the side of the house, so out of sight from the road. There's the door, the path next to the house, a small patch of grass and the neighbours wall. He literally posted a letter, turned round, knob out, pissed all over the grass and wall. Knob away, off to post more letters, obviously without washing his hands. Envy

It was done so casually it's hard to believe he's not done it before. On the plus side, he posted our letters first so that won't be covered in piss Grin. But seriously, who would do that?!

Thing is, we're in a village where everyone knows each other, and he's been the postie for years. But IANBU to report him and potentially get him sacked am I?! I have a slight pricking of my conscience if he did lose his job, but surely that's his problem, not mine?!

BitOutOfPractice,
As a point of Law,
It is not illegal to install a security CCTV camera on your property as long as it is Only your property that is being filmed and the recordings are not stored on file as they should be deleted .It is also good practice to put up a sign to inform people that there is CCTV in place so they know not to have a piss in your garden or climb through your window as they are being recorded.
Unless OP,s husband was sitting in a bush filming people then the Post Man was at fault and should not of did what he did.
FACT .

Ladybirdbookworm · 09/02/2017 01:01

Wouldn't bother me - there are far worse things my postie could do

Spartak · 09/02/2017 01:15

It might not be illegal to install a CCTV camera but it will be unauthorised if it put up at less than 2.5m from the ground without planning permission. One of the very boring things that I have to enforce at work.

faithinthesound · 09/02/2017 01:22

You all make fun, but OP's the one,
Attempting to do some good
Or do you really want a neighborhood
Where people piss on your stoop every night?
Bohemia, bohemia's
A fallacy in your head
OP's neighborhood is Calcutta.
Bohemia is dead.

Trifleorbust · 09/02/2017 02:09

Before you report him, ask yourself whether you would be happy telling everyone you know that you got him fired.

TheNewWoman · 09/02/2017 02:24

I'm surprised how many people think this is ok. It is unhygienic and disrespectful! If it was an absolute emergency I'm sure he could have found a field or something, but not in someones garden!

I don't think it would be inappropriate to report it to the sorting office, but if it was me I probably woudl leave a note for the postie to give him a chance. I wouldn't want his job loss on my conscience.

SteppingOnToes · 09/02/2017 02:26

Tell him you have CCTV, wink and wiggle your little finger at the same time ;)

Lovemylittlebear · 09/02/2017 03:07

For those saying it's ok because he is on the road all day - what happens when he needs a crap? lol I am sure there are other places to wee

MaisyPops · 09/02/2017 03:25

Saying oh well report him and if its not an issue then he wont get sacked is just looking for reasons to mouth off and be a busybody (and im not going to mention the suggestion that it's 'grooming' - there are very real cases of grooming without getting hysterical over one mistake).

Yes, he shouldnt have done it. Its not really on. But what's wrong with gently mentioning it to him directly 'this is awkward and i know youve got a long round but this is what i saw. Could you not please?'
Then again, i have a massive hate for people in my own line of work who go running to managers rather than speaking nicely to individuals. Always feel they're out to create problems rather than resolve them.

bimbobaggins · 09/02/2017 06:34

You say where have I said I want him sacked but the tittle of your op is

To potentially get our postman fired!!

Bearsinmotion · 09/02/2017 06:51

Bimbobaggins. I said I wanted to report him. But this could potentially get him sacked. That doesn't mean I want him sacked. I want to stop him pissing in my garden, but I've since agreed a note would be better.

When DP travelled 60 miles to pick up his children ( ex had moved away) he asked his ex if he could possibly use her toilet. She told him no but he could use the drain outside!

BalloonSlayer · 09/02/2017 07:05

Love LOVE the idea of the letter with DON'T PISS IN MY GARDEN in the address.

You could send one the following day with YOU WERE CAUGHT ON CAMERA in the address too.

cansu · 09/02/2017 07:07

All sorta of wildlife will have pissed in your garden. You are being ridiculous.

Rainmaker1 · 09/02/2017 07:20

I really hope you don't report him op. If he did lose his job. That could lead to him not being able to pay his bills he could loose his home...his child's home

He should've thought about that before being a filthy bastard shouldn't he? Report to RM OP and demand he's sacked. I certainly wouldn't hesitate in your shoes.

breathandexhale · 09/02/2017 08:34

He had a quick widdle in your garden. He didnt break in at Christmas and piss on your kids.

xotyl · 09/02/2017 08:36

OP has decided to leave a note or poster, so that is all fine. However this does appear to be a problem that could be fairly easily sorted out by RM for both their customers and their workers. Why don't they send a letter, I believe they have the means, to everyone where there is no access to a public loo. They could ask if anyone has an outside loo that they would, for small payment i.e book of stamps at Christmas, allow their postie to use they were caught short. I'm sure that out of every round there would be some kind soul who would allow this. Leaving them to pee in bottles is horrible, always wondered who would do that and leave the bottle at the side of the road.

The80sweregreat · 09/02/2017 09:09

Its cold, the nearest loos are a 20 minute walk away, he has to get the round done or people moan and , if he is older man, he possibly cant hold it in.
maybe have a word with him , but i wouldnt get him the sack over this.
Jobs are precious - although i will be a bit more careful picking up my mail from the mat now ( tongs?)
we are not rural, but no public loos anywhere near us either and mine is a long old road.

BartholinsSister · 09/02/2017 09:19

Perhaps there's a threat of another postie taking over his round, so he's marking his territory.
Either way, a 'Beware of the Dog' sign might discourage him from getting his genitals out in your garden.

Booshbeesh · 09/02/2017 09:24

Ladymariner - sorry isit agree with u or have a sar astic comment thrown ur way.

ohtheholidays · 09/02/2017 09:26

It's disgusting and I would report him, like you've mentioned there are toilets only a few minutes walk away or he has his van and he could drive then to the public toilets which aren't that far away.

Under certain circumstances you can be arrested for urinating in public!
So the law obviously see's it as a serious act and I agree with you OP to piss in someone's garden is not normal and it makes it even worse that he's done it so near your front door and right near a child's bike, what is wrong with him?!

What if a child saw him,he'd have more than just getting a warning or the loss of his job to worry about then.

Birdsgottaf1y · 09/02/2017 09:30

Poll your village and find out who has Compost heaps, he can piss on them, as a community service.

BattleaxeGalactica · 09/02/2017 10:52

How on earth did a camera set at fox height capture an image of your postie's knob, OP?!

He's either somewhat challenged vertically or he's hung like a horse Grin

Aeroflotgirl · 09/02/2017 12:39

Really he was out of sight, as your door is at the side of the house. He turned round and peed on the grass and some of the wall, not ideal, but I would let it go. Its wee, and will be absorbed, sometimes, your so desperate you cannot walk or do anything, and you literally have to go there and then. It is cold, the colder it is, the more you need the toilet. How do you know, he does not have medical issues. He was not exposing his willy, and grooming as some of the pearl clutchers were instigating. If he left a massive poo, I would say something, but it was in effect a discreet wee, it sounds like a one off! Hes at the end of the day a human being, so a bit of forgiveness won't go amiss. If he kept doing that, then I would have a word. I don't think that's likely to happen. OOOH I need a wee, i ll hold on until I get to bears house.

heron98 · 09/02/2017 12:39

I doubt he does this daily. One piss isn't going to change anything. And I guess he has to go somewhere. I'd let him off, certainly wouldn't bother to report him.
