£1000 disappeared into thin air!

WIBU to think this is not even possible??!!

I tried to withdraw £1000 from cashpoint inside a Lloyds bank yesterday.

The money didn't come out and the cashier convinced me it hadn't come off the balance, so I assumed I didn't have enough money and had miscalculated some dates of payments etc.

Just logged on to internet banking to find the £1000 has been taken off my balance!!!

WWYD? I'm on the phone to the bank now, in the queue, passed from one person to another....!!!

I'm so distressed as I really need to make a payment today with the money (for rent)!

Never could I have imagined that this can actually happen! It's only 2 months since another card of mine was fraudulently copied. My trust in banks has completely gone. Mind you I did get my money back last time, but this time it's just.... such a stressful timing... sorry for going hysterical.

Anyone else had this happen to them?

Mrsmorton Grin made me lol, also love the Trump reference as I sadly believe he doesn't need anyone's help in ruining it all Halo

7Sunshine what a coincidence! Haha I'd feel terrible if someone in RL got mistaken for me, especially if they're not me, although I'd feel a bit bad for myself too :)

Thanks Willow for that very clear and articulate post.

I am fairly new to this site and I assumed AIBU has always attracted a certain amount of people wanting to judge? Happy to hear if not so, sometimes people can get a bit mean to say the least. Flowers

Emma you were out of order. Your posts did come over as passive aggressive and accusatory. Its tiresome.

scaryclown · 23/01/2017 01:45

The machines are normally pretty good at putting markers on possible errors. The money will either be registered as not issued..and be a credit on the machine's remaining balance, or in the hopper in the base.

I've had a tenner recredited automatically so go in tomorrow..its most likely to be fine

Klaphat · 23/01/2017 02:06

What a GF.

The initial biz account/offshore account very much suggested dodgy dealings. Whether that was for attention, or you're now backtracking, or you didn't see what the most likely interpretation would be because of your autism, I don't know, OP, but you're being very childish.

PussInCoutts · 23/01/2017 02:10

Klaphat are you on theWine ?

Hilarious. Some people like to get offended no matter what.

FYI this is 2017, lots of people have offshore accounts (ie non-UK accounts) without any dodginess. apparently UK is going to be more international now post Brexit says Theresa May

Attention? Backtracking? Wow. You're weird. And another disablist you are, Yoda I speak, early taxi for airport I await.

OP posts:
PussInCoutts · 23/01/2017 02:13

Klaphat It is also worth educating yourself on the matter that millions of people in the UK have business accounts. Do you live in a cave and how come you have internet but haven't come across this ?

avamiah · 23/01/2017 02:16

AnotherEmma,
OP,was withdrawing £1000 (one thousand pounds) in cash not £100,000.
Most accounts have a £600 a day limit with the exception of American Express .

Communion Yes it's all gone a bit OTT wish a few comments hasn't it!

Lucky I knew that there's always some people in AIBU trying to kick you down, especially when you're distressed, as I was earlier today.

GF...omg I was called a GF, holiday ruined Sad Sad Sad

That would've been my reaction if I had expected to get only well-meaning advice.

Thanks to the vast majority who did actually give it!

This GF is off to the airport now Grin Brew

A goady fucker, someone being deliberately provocative. Like Klaphat up there.

The initial biz account/offshore account very much suggested dodgy dealings.

Go on, you do live under a rock, don't you?

RhiWrites · 23/01/2017 09:04

All this prying into OP's finances and accusing her of being vague is troll hunting isn't it?

OP, I do hope you get it sorted. Enquiring in the bank ought to remembered by the staff. Please update to let us know what happened.

No it didn't. That little gem was nothing but the result of another posters overactive imagination.

wasonthelist · 23/01/2017 09:43

Really surprised you can withdraw £1k from a cash machine - there are a few times this would actually have been very useful to me but just thought it wasn't possible.

Carollocking · 23/01/2017 09:52

if you talk your bank most accounts you can request a limit that you want, most people think the default amount that the bank sets as standard is it but it's not true most accounts you can change the maximum withdrawn limit per day. However when you do so make sure if you are going to be responsible for any part of the amount if there was fraud as often that is the case too.so be careful

You probably cant on an ordinary current account but if you have a 'premier' account or similar high end accounts plus some business accounts then you can.

My friend manages premier accounts in a bank for millionaires, footballers etc and £1000 is nothing to them to take out at a time!

Sorry for double post Mumsnet seems to be being awkward this morning.

GivenupSocialmediaNOTMN · 23/01/2017 11:22

I have a son with aspergers, we remind him that he often misreads tone and should try very hard to not take offence unless the offence is explicit.

No offence has been explicit.

JustPoppingBy · 23/01/2017 12:23

Hope it works out all ok OP!
👍🏻

Tiggles · 23/01/2017 12:35

Puss I hope you get your money back.
I can't believe how few of you seem to be able to withdraw large amounts of cash from an ATM. I've been able to withdraw £750 for the last 20 years (now £1000). link here for those who can't comprehend that

Reality16 · 23/01/2017 12:45

Your link means nothing. Barclays isn't the bank in question. Lloyds machines give max £500 to their account holders so it's unlikely that someone with an offshore account will be able to take £1k out
