£1000 disappeared into thin air!

WIBU to think this is not even possible??!!

I tried to withdraw £1000 from cashpoint inside a Lloyds bank yesterday.

The money didn't come out and the cashier convinced me it hadn't come off the balance, so I assumed I didn't have enough money and had miscalculated some dates of payments etc.

Just logged on to internet banking to find the £1000 has been taken off my balance!!!

WWYD? I'm on the phone to the bank now, in the queue, passed from one person to another....!!!

I'm so distressed as I really need to make a payment today with the money (for rent)!

Never could I have imagined that this can actually happen! It's only 2 months since another card of mine was fraudulently copied. My trust in banks has completely gone. Mind you I did get my money back last time, but this time it's just.... such a stressful timing... sorry for going hysterical.

Anyone else had this happen to them?

Poor op comes on for advice on what may have happened and gets grilled on why she wanted that much in cash out grin

It was disgraceful and from the first post in. Its no ones business whatsoever why she needed the 1000 pounds.

CurlsandCurves · 22/01/2017 20:48

Absolutely! Talk about judgemental!

D0G · 22/01/2017 20:56

Know how you feel - I'm sure it'll be sorted I rather stupidly had 1k in an envelope in a boot in my car ready to give someone. Kept forgetting it was there and I never lock my car. Went to look for it and it was gone. I was beside myself. Literally screeching and sobbing and a lot of self hate. I tore the car apart looking for it and was adamant someone had nicked it. Came in the house and I was less stupid than I initially thought and saw it on the mantel piece Hmm. I know mine was through stupidity but it's still a sickening feeling.

PussInCoutts · 22/01/2017 21:01

Thanks for the supportive posts!

FWIW Emma also suggested that I have an offshore account for tax dodging, which to me seemed mean.

However, thanks to all of you who offered good advice!

And my advice for those asking "what's this got to do with AS" is that Dannii's post was spot on, and also, when you got AS, you kind of get an overdose of 'aren't you weird' undertones from the moment you go to school, so us aspies can generally feel a bit fed up with that part.

The posts about this happening to others and from those working in a bank have been greatly reassuring. Flowers I managed to borrow money to pay rent on time (had to get a relative to deposit it to landlord's acct tomorrow too so a lot of hassle for several relatives) so that's lucky. One of those things that had to happen at the most inconvenient moment.

Why on earth haven't you set up a standing order monthly to transfer your money across?! (again, probably missing the point)

I think the point is that its none of your business.

Carollocking · 22/01/2017 21:09

ATM Withdrawal limits are set at default amount that each bank decides however you can change this with your bank at any time with MOST accounts, the only down side is when go above the default amount that the bank sets you normally have to take on board part of the risk ...

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 22/01/2017 21:09

This happened to me but a lesser amount, £60 I think. They took a few days to investigate (Nat West) they will soon tell from the cashing up of the machine. Push them and don't stop til you're refunded

Also, like MrsPeely said, not relevant to the issue!

blamined her AS when anyone says something she doesnt like! I was hardly blaming my AS. I was saying a poster was being passive aggressive in ways that do relate to having AS. She didn't say anything I 'didn't like' and I didn't 'blame my AS'. weird.

Just skim read but... It's probably a " pending" transaction. The money has not been doesn't just ring fenced so you can't go overdrawn
Just check with bank tomorrow and ask if it's pending. If so, will just automatically go back into your account

Reality16 · 22/01/2017 21:15

Barclays allow £1000 daily ATM withdrawal on certain accounts. Anyone holding those accounts however would be highly unlikely to be handing over £1k rent money every month.

CalorieCreditEqualsCake · 22/01/2017 21:17

Typical shite Mumsnet. Literally great example.

OP - Help I tried to with draw 1k, it didn't come out but now shows it's not in my account what do I do? Can anyone help?

Replies - WHY were you withdrawing 1k. You can't withdraw more than 300. What was it for? Why would you need to do that? ARE YOU DODGING TAXES?!
Why don't you have.... wait for it... a standing order.

All whilst not helping the OP at all but ripping her post apart.

So fucking helpful. Hmm

PussInCoutts · 22/01/2017 21:23

What was really worst about the situation for me personally was not just the completely terrible timing (rent due and going abroad!) but also because I was panicking I'd never get the money back, as both banks seemed to be passing the buck.

But thanks to the very helpful replies which reassured me this is a 'very common' occurrence which gets sorted easily. I sure hope so!

Also, I was really lucky that relatives were able to lend me money tonight. Had I not had their help, this situation would be screwed as I'd be pissing off my landlord and going on holiday with a £100 budget! (We probably need more like £150 TBH Grin )

Reality16 so with all your knowledge, are you saying that the OP is lying then? I presume you work in Banking and know the ins and outs and know the OP full circumstances?

i presume you work in Banking why? It took me seconds to google this info!

Chewbecca · 22/01/2017 21:32

Happened to me once OP.

Report it to the bank. Mine refunded while they investigated. 6 weeks later I got a letter to say they were satisfied that I did not receive the money I withdrew and therefore case closed.

It'll be fine, try not to worry.

I would also suggest you change to a safer method of transfer starting next month if at all possible.

(P.s. I can withdraw more than the amounts quoted here daily too)

Chewbecca · 22/01/2017 21:33

By the way, I was only able to report by phone, the branch couldn't help.

CalorieCreditEqualsCake · 22/01/2017 21:35

Reality16 so all threads deserved to be ripped apart?
They don't.

I've had my threads ripped apart and the actual question or content totally ignored in just the fashion this has. And not because it's bullshit. But because this is how it is now.

waterfallrainbow · 22/01/2017 21:35

I've had this happen before with cashpoints to the tune of £10 or so. You need to report it and when they count the machine at the end of the week they will see if it is up by the missing money, and then they credit you. FYI, O Mumsnetters, Barclays cashpoints have done this to me thrice, and once was to the tune of £50, which they then denied. I try and avoid them now.

Reality16 · 22/01/2017 21:40

so all threads deserved to be ripped apart? no of course not, but it is reasonable for people to ask questions when things don't sound as they should.

CalorieCreditEqualsCake · 22/01/2017 21:42

There was absolutely nothing wrong with her post!

Reality16 · 22/01/2017 21:47

There was absolutely nothing wrong with her post! apart from the bit where she took a grand out of a Lloyds ATM.
