£1000 disappeared into thin air!

WIBU to think this is not even possible??!!

I tried to withdraw £1000 from cashpoint inside a Lloyds bank yesterday.

The money didn't come out and the cashier convinced me it hadn't come off the balance, so I assumed I didn't have enough money and had miscalculated some dates of payments etc.

Just logged on to internet banking to find the £1000 has been taken off my balance!!!

WWYD? I'm on the phone to the bank now, in the queue, passed from one person to another....!!!

I'm so distressed as I really need to make a payment today with the money (for rent)!

Never could I have imagined that this can actually happen! It's only 2 months since another card of mine was fraudulently copied. My trust in banks has completely gone. Mind you I did get my money back last time, but this time it's just.... such a stressful timing... sorry for going hysterical.

Anyone else had this happen to them?

apart from the bit where she took a grand out of a Lloyds ATM

This was wrong because...?

Honestly, this bullshit posturing of 'I'm sooo much smarter than you, I don't get taken in by anything' cynical shit is tiresome in the extreme.

Reality16 · 22/01/2017 21:55

This was wrong because...? I was explains why the OP was questioned about her post. I never said it was wrong. Just that it didn't sound legit so of course people will ask. Even account holders with lloyds can only get £500 out per day according to their own site so you can see how it is hard to belive be that someone using a different bank would be able to get £1k.

It DID raise questions. Reasonable questions at that.

Reality16 · 22/01/2017 21:57

i don't get taken in by anything' cynical shit is tiresome in the extreme. almost as tiresome as having to explain why you ask a bloody question time and time again.

StrangeLookingParasite · 22/01/2017 21:59

Then stop posting as though everyone is lying about everything all the time. Your questions had already been answered earlier in the thread, if you had bothered to read it - or are you too important to bother with that?

PussInCoutts · 22/01/2017 22:07

Reality16 2 seconds of googling gave me this

www.theguardian.com/money/2015/sep/12/big-cash-withdrawals-bank-barclays-denied-access

I said specifically what my bank was, and it's wasn't Barclay's. The article will help you educate yourself that Lloyds has a different system. unsure why you thought I bank at Barclays

Some people come to AIBU just to have a go on people. After all, the whole page does in effect ask you to judge them, in a certain way. I admit to having been cheeky posting here rather than elsewhere, purely for traffic. So I got lots of helpful replies, and as expected, some vipers. That's okay, I took an anti-snakebite pill before posting :)

OP posts:
Reality16 · 22/01/2017 22:09

I didn't think you banked with Barclays? It was an example of google and gain information

GimmeeMoore · 22/01/2017 22:11

As I said no experience of this, and very upsetting for you,I hope you get a satisfactory resolution

Reality16 · 22/01/2017 22:11

Then stop posting as though everyone is lying about everything all the time. Your questions had already been answered earlier in the thread, if you had bothered to read it - or are you too important to bother with that? oh no maybe you are too important to read what I said. I wasn't asking the questions. My post was an explanation about why people question these things, there was no need for me to ask those questions as people already had. Those people then got slated for asking. I pointed out WHY people question things. It was totally reasonable.

Ciaovenora · 22/01/2017 22:20

Firstly, newer ATM'S offer a variety of services including the ability to w/d far in excess of normal ATM daily cash w/d limits they are set up like this to get replace cashiers. Who cares if she w/d 1k its none of our business.

Anyways, notes not being dispensed is not that unusual due to the high rates of fraud in the past( Leaving one note behind) banks no longer credit you back immediately you will get credited within 24/48 hours.

PrincessNakedAsAJayBird · 22/01/2017 22:51

I'm going by your name and you bank with Coutts? 😊Not that it's relevant! Hope this gets sorted, hate the panic of having to wait till a Monday morn to get something sorted!

NameChange30 · 22/01/2017 23:06

"FWIW Emma also suggested that I have an offshore account for tax dodging, which to me seemed mean."

You were being massively vague and mentioned an offshore account, I asked if it was for tax dodging, you said no... what's the big deal?!

Why drip feed and then have a go at people for asking questions?!

PussInCoutts · 22/01/2017 23:18

Princess I wish... It's my wishful thinking :)

Emma the stuff was irrelevant to the actual issue, which is what several PPs have also pointed out. Why would you even ask if it's for tax dodging, that's just rude and passive aggressive. I guess being online makes it easier for people to be rude to others.

I wasn't being vague, you were prying. I don't want to make it massively easy to be outed although that's a very real possibility.

And FYI a lot of people live between countries these days, you know, globalization and all that.

PussInCoutts · 22/01/2017 23:19

EmmaPlease tell us MNetters

  1. what your bank is
  2. have you got mortgage or rent
  3. how much the 2) is
  4. how much and what day of the month do you get paid

If you cannot answer these questions I expect you are tax dodging Grin

God, bunfight!

I hope you get your money back soon and enjoy your holiday, OP!

StrangeLookingParasite · 22/01/2017 23:21

You were being massively vague and mentioned an offshore account, I asked if it was for tax dodging, you said no... what's the big deal?!

You really see nothing wrong with immediately accusing someone of tax dodging, right off the bat, as your very first conclusion?

Bleurghghghgh · 22/01/2017 23:22

Emma the big deal is you rudely assuming something and having the gall to ask it in the way you did without offering any actual advice.

Welshmamma · 22/01/2017 23:25

Wow hope you get your money back!
Lots of questions on here that aren't necessary .... why do people feel the need to know why the OP withdraws her own money .... and it sounds like your questioning the legitimacy of the amount.

7SunshineSeven7 · 22/01/2017 23:33

OP are you in the Liverpool area? If so you may need to remove this post due to ID problems x

PussInCoutts · 22/01/2017 23:35

Thanks all! Thanks so much for holiday wishes! :)

&Sunshine* no I don't have I got a doppelganger there? I once met a doppelganger to a friend of mine when travelling in Liverpool though. Do they copy people over there, like 3D printing? Grin

7SunshineSeven7 · 22/01/2017 23:38

Its fine then! Just two in one day lost their rent money it seems! Just wanted to be sure and let you know it was possibly outing Smile

WidowTwonky · 22/01/2017 23:38

OP if it's a UK offshore account then a SO just takes the standard 2 days and you don't lose interest for those 2 days. However if it's Switzerland or similar then that's not the case

TurquoiseDress · 22/01/2017 23:50

I'm sure you can't even withdraw that amount of money in one go from a cash point- unless you were taking it out in the branch, with a cashier.

Hope you get it sorted!

Mrsmorton · 22/01/2017 23:55

I keep coming back to this thread as it's fascinating to see you getting blamed for wanting to withdraw your own money and use it to actually PAY YOUR RENT. You fucking charlatan. Between you and trump, you'll ruin it all...Hmm Confused

Let us know how you get on, I wouldn't be able to sleep I'm afraid...

And turqoise if you think OP is lying, just press the report button? YVW.

SleepingTiger · 23/01/2017 00:05

I have several accounts and I switch £1,000 between them regularly. In fact sometimes I sit at my pc with two screens and do it so fast that I am quicker at transferring it than it can clear the accounts. The account balances overtake themselves and last week I ended up turning £1,000 into £42,000 within about 25 minutes. It is even better if you are on a yacht in the mid-pacific straddling the international date line. Skillful tacking a zig-zag path down the line while logged on to Barclays enabled me to pay off my mortgage. These things are possible if you know how.

Willow2016 · 23/01/2017 00:07

Good gravy can people not RTFT?

  1. there ARE cash machines in uk which let you take out £1k (not regular current accounts but other accounts)
  2. OP LIKES to take out cash and put it into another account from which her rent then transfes to landlord. Funnily enough that is HER choice nobody elses business.
  3. OP only asked a question about anyone having had this happen to her before, nothing else.
4 OP didnt ask to be interrogated about why she needed the money, basicaly accused of lying about being able to take the money out in the first place, asked if she was tax dodging, asked why she had more than one bank account, and being given advice on how to do things differently in future (cos obviously she has no right to decide what to do with her own finances)

What the hell is going on with Mumsnet these days, there are loads of threads where people seem to be just posting to rip into people and tell them they are doing things wrong (i.e. not MY way) making assumptions based on some idea that popped into their heads or what they THINK should have happened/did happen and accuse them of lying? Its pretty sad considering the huge support there is on MN usually.
