Hi Ladies!

Just wondering other people's views on unannounced visitors?

I hate it, and it stresses me out massively! I find it rude and would never do it to someone else.

Rude and really annoying.
I like my privacy a lot.

I am very extrovert and still absolutely cannot abide any form of popping in. They don't get over the threshold here. Caused no end of problems with MIL.

I hate this. DH family used to do it. They said they didn't need to make an appointment to see their son. My home is my santuary and am often in scruffy comfy clothes with house a mess.

PinkCrystal

My mother says the same, why should I have to book an appointment to see my daughter? Because I fucking say so! Xmas Grin

Everyone know now that if they just turn up, the door won't be answered and if they ring last minute were always busy!

I think I must be the ultimate hater of the unannounced visitors as I hate unannounced phone calls.
I'm just about to watch something/eat dinner/go to the loo and some fucker phones up. Who does that? Is your texting finger broken?

I love it Blush

I grew up in a house where my mum and dad hated it and I had a best friends who's house was just one big open door and I always as a child swore that was how my kids house was going to be.

It's even better when my best friend turns up with her slippers on, makes us a cuppa have a quick 30 minute gossip and off she goes!

Desolate I'm exactly the same! I pretty much never answer the phone, I hate the assumption that I must drop everything and talk to my mother or MIL for an hour on the phone just because they've called me. I am really anti social though. 😁
And unannounced visitors are an absolute no no as far as I'm concerned.

My ex sil used to follow me around the house when I was making beds etc and I was over the moon when they moved! She even used to try and follow me into the bathrooom when I needed a wee... glad she's separated from my dbro she's a complete weirdo.

I don't mind it TBH, I know some do but I grew up with a very close family of aunts and cousins who would pop round at any time, and us to them. Occasionally someone would go to another's to find that they're out, but we all lived so close that it was no big deal.
Saying that though, I'd dread for my nan to turn up unannounced as I need a good few hours warning to get my home up to her standards. Don't get me wrong, she wouldn't be bitchy and slag me off, instead she'd start worrying that I can't cope with working and raising a child on my own all because my skirting boards haven't been cleaned for a few weeks Grin

That's really interesting Candle

I grew up in a house where anyone and everyone was admitted at any time and I had absolutely no privacy. I fucking hated it and swore I would never put my DC through the same.

Funny the extent to which our childhoods shape our feelings on such things.

I hate it and it happened today after a big night of drinking and going to bed 4am so i was a bit caught out and there eas beer bottles and stuff all over the place. Embarrassing!

Oh no happy Christmas bum :( I hope my DC don't feel that way,

The 'open door' policy was always kept downstairs at my friends, so you always had the privacy of your room but down stairs just always felt so friendly and welcoming and happy!

Then I'd go hope and the atmosphere was never the same, always felt nervous asking friends to come round. They would always welcome my friends to come round but it was never the same 'feeling'.

I never shut my front door and the kids from the neighbourhood ALL play outside our little close, I hope it's because I've just made them feel welcome just as my best friends mum did :)

I like people coming to see me expected or unannounced, always nice to have company. Dropped in on two people today and they seemed happy enough to see me or maybe it was the bags of Christmas presents i was carrying for them.

I'm pretty extraverted in most social situations but still don't like either unannounced or enforced socialising (group projects, work do's etc). With 2 small kids and fulltime jobs our hometime is pretty busy, so "popping in" is not an option at the mo, and our family and mates know to text and check first.
It would depend on context and length - I have some mates I would be genuinely delighted to see whenever, but they are also the same mates I could wander about in front of in a nightie or leave with a cuppa and the wifi password while I finish housework quickly and then chat. Sadly they are also mainly on the other side of the planet these days.
ILs dropping in would be hellish. I need to prepare mentally to deal with mine!

I hate it. I have a young baby and a toddler and the MIL always comes when they need a nap etc and doesn't get the hints!

My great grandmother had the solution to this. Would always answer the door wearing her hat. If she wanted to invite the person in, she had "just got in". If not, she was "just going out!

Report
melj1213 · 18/12/2016 01:08

TBH I don't mind it - if they're close enough to "just drop by" then they're close enough to see me with no make up, bed head and in my "dossing around the house clothes" and cope with the fact the house is a bombsite ... and if they're not that close, I don't care enough what they think of me opening the door in said state as they won't be coming in anyway!

Oh I hate it. I am always either in pyjamas, napping at 4pm, having a shag or in the bath and house is dirty with a mountain of dishes when this happens. I am not like normal functioning adults who get up, clean the house, get dressed and sit about fully clothed ready to make cups of tea for visitors.
