To ask you how long TTC took?

Just had month 6 of TTC and negative tests still 😞
I know 6 months is nothing really but it is just getting me so down now. I have other DC that were conceived within a month or two but this was from a previous marriage.

I think it just feels like a long time because it is never far from my thoughts. Just feeling really sad at the moment 😞

I am also starting to feel impatient 8 months in. And I wasn't at all impatient at the start.

Temporaryname137 · 24/11/2016 10:08

For me personally, first try despite being 37 (DP was so unimpressed, he'd been envisaging lots of shagging). However, I had been tracking things for a while because of a bit of random spotting, so I knew exactly when I was ovulating. If we want to have another I suspect it will take longer, as I am already 39.

However, if I took you through the entire range of my friends who've talked about it to me, it would go from 1 month to 4 years or so, with the average being about 6-10 months. Nature just isn't all that efficient sometimes! I think it's also hard to be patient because so much of it apart from timing and DTD is out of our control. Most things in life you can control if you try, but so much of TTC is down to luck with your own body and your partner's body.

Hi OP I could have written this post myself (except trc number 1), seventh month now. It's still early days compared to some but it does start to get you down, I also find there's lots of pressure from other people. I'm sure it'll happen for us soon. Good luck.

DrQuinzel · 24/11/2016 10:14

DC 1 - 5 minutes. Absolute miracle to be honest as I had the implant, we were usin condoms to be extra safe and one split.

Now 10 months trying for DC2. I know it's not "long" in the grand scheme of things and really feel for people who have been trying for ages but for us it's heartbreaking. My periods have always been regular and last month was 11 days late, I was convinced I was PG but nope, just Mother Nature playing a cruel trick. I'm absolutely sure I must be infertile and am wondering if it's because I had a crash section.

BreatheDeep · 24/11/2016 10:22

10 months for first
Oopsie for second

Funnyface1 · 24/11/2016 10:23

First month both times. Thought second time might take longer as I had moved into my thirties but no.

Kel1234 · 24/11/2016 10:23

4 months.
Good luck

NicknameUsed · 24/11/2016 10:24

17 years.

Not what you wanted to hear.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 24/11/2016 10:25

8 years but I have PCOS. DS was not exactly planned when he finally came along

FaithAscending · 24/11/2016 10:28

2 years 8 months (I believe it was 34 cycles). Turned out we had fertility issues. Once they were treated, I got pregnant.

6 months feels like a long time, I know. Stats indicate 80% of couples conceive within a year and 90% within 18 months. The likelihood is you will conceive within the next 6 months. Make sure you're taking the folic acid, get your DP on a multivitamin and make sure you're using conception friendly lube Smile

Lolly86 · 24/11/2016 10:29

18months and I was 27, DH was 38

Bug28 · 24/11/2016 10:31

10 months for no 1 and 1st try for no 2.

6 months seems a long time when it is all consuming and all you can think about, but it is still early days really.

DramaAlpaca · 24/11/2016 10:32

DC1: 11 months
DC2: immediately!
DC3: 3 months

Best of luck OP, hope it happens for you soon.

kimnews · 24/11/2016 10:43

DS1 was a happy accident 5 years ago.
Been TTC number 2 for 19 months now with no joy.

Happybunny19 · 24/11/2016 11:14

DD1 - 2 years
DS1 - 2 months
DD2 - immediately after taking last pill, no real period between stopping contraception and conceiving, and I was 41, so find all the advice about fertility declining with age laughable.

RainbowJack · 24/11/2016 11:18

I have other DC that were conceived within a month or two but this was from a previous marriage.

Could it be because of your partner?

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 24/11/2016 11:19

13 years. Unexplained infertility. No idea why it happened spontaneously, but we were... ahem... surprised.

ChocolateForAll · 24/11/2016 11:30

DS 8 months and three rounds of clomid for pcos and very long cycles

DD1 2 months and first round of clomid

DD2 Massive shock, totally unplanned. Literally did it once that month. Was taking Angus castus for PMT. Incidentally have had four week cycles ever since.

NickMarlow · 24/11/2016 11:40

Dc1 9 months / 11 cycles
Ttc dc2, 4 months so far.

6 months is well within the normal range, but I feel for you, it is all consuming isn't it, especially when all the stories you hear are the ones who got pregnant first try or took years. Most people are probably somewhere in the middle, you just don't hear those stories.

Alabastard · 24/11/2016 11:41

7 years, multiple miscarriages. Had all but given up when DD arrived.

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 24/11/2016 11:44

Four years. We never conceived so gave up trying.

Sorry, probably not what you want to hear, and you will no doubt get lots of positive, even miraculous sounding stories.

But for some people it just doesn't happen.

FluffyEwok · 24/11/2016 12:00

13th month here. Pcos on clomid 4th round about to start but im not that hopeful

FluffyEwok · 24/11/2016 12:01

Just to add iv lost weight even though i didnt need to. Am on metformin and inofolic but nothing makes a differenceHmm

Mari50 · 24/11/2016 12:31

One month for #1, same for #2 both ended in m/c, three months for #3 and then I've not been able to conceive again, tried for 6 years. . .

Spingroll16 · 24/11/2016 13:07

Two and a half weeks after the implant removal for me!

Try not to over think it, don't make it a chore for you or your partner is my best advice!

I know of so many people who have tried for years, and once they've thought 'oh f*ck it' they've fallen pregnant
